CMH vs LED vs HPS

What I find most funny is that NO led retailer or mfg take part in these discussions 🤔
Maybe they are the ones afraid ? Maybe the king is naked ? Lol their arguments are always BS
The most used excuse is Tolerance lol
You explain to them that for 10 years straight no one ever complained once about the quality of smoke, people was was buying this shit before you can even harvest it in prices that today seems to be insane haha
But they remain stuck in their opinions, cuz at the end of the day it's easier.
Ignorance is a bliss
I never thought about growing, never needed to, the weed all around was too killer, why would you grow for ?
Today you just can't find smokable weed, they say that we got used to it, I say BS !

Hey Snakedope,
I don't know... to say that LEDs are deliberately used to produce lower grade bud so that the "addicts" have to buy more seems veeeery far fetched.
In general I find growing with LEDs is very different to growing under HID lamps, but I along many others find the buds to be more resinous and overall better quality. Maybe you have to give it another try and make sure you give your plants what they need under the new lights?

I never have issues with foxtailing under LED. And back when I ran hps it was always a sign that temperature was to high.

I do not think it is fair to judge a light, or really anything if there is some environmental issue out of whack. All of this new technology is developed in perfectly dialed environments. And I wouldn't expect it to perform as well if not.
I definitely did. No question the LED was responsible for it. As well as more stretch. But it seemed to happen with the sativa leaning plants. My indica types weren't affected by the foxtailing only the stretch. All the planted stretched more with the LED. I think I need find the sweet spot between the plant and light. Definitely some nice looking bud from LEDs if done right.....just not mine.

Hi bro
I appreciate your opinion, but like mine it's subjective and individual, we really can't know unless we meet and smoke/taste/smell the same budz together. Anything else is speculation on our part

I wish it was just me getting poor results with led believe me, I wish the market was saturated with high grade bud to the point I wouldn't need to grow like the old days..
But it's not just me, 95% of the market is fucked, no quality anywhere.
How the fuck is that possible ??
Same people that had fire just 2 years ago all of a sudden became idiots that don't know what they are doing ?
To me this is far fatched, the more logical theory is that those growers invested heavily in new set ups, now they need to make moneyyy and they will say anything and everything to move their bud.

Everyone is biased, my bulbs cost me 25 usd, why would I be biased ? The more money involved the more biased/ego you will be, that's just how human nature works
Mine is better cuz it cost more
Mine is better cuz it's modern and yours is old tech
Mine is better cuz nasa said so
These are the arguments the the led community uses, no real facts or science, it is best not confront them with facts, they go back to defence mode and start calling your lights flinston and parking lots lights, ridiculous.

Anyway they think I hate LEDs haha and that can't be more far from the truth
I love them ! Way more then any HIDs, why ? Because they do the job better in veg then any light source I've seen.
At first after I was done flowering with them I wanted to sell them fast, but now you can't get them from me in no price, they are ultimate vegging machine for me.

i am just about finished with my 1st led grow- i observed that the plants don't stretch nearly as much, and the buds are def smaller- i'm using the same (13part) fox farms nutes, feeding once a week as i did under cmh and hps/mh... other then changing from cmh to led, the only change was going from a 5gallon fabric pot to a 3gallon... maybe thats the reason (or part of) for the small plants/buds...

of course none of this will matter if the final product is kick ass- and that's a drying and curing away...

I think there is a sweet spot with light height. Too close and foxtails and light burn.....too far and plants stretch and stunt. I also think a Scrog method would work best atleast with bar LED. I will be experimenting with the scrog netting this spring on my next LED attemp.

I suppose I should post this here too. This is the HID isle at the local grow store. Hawthorne is no longer shipping any HID bulbs and I heard hortilux is going out of business.

No related to quality of finished product. More about reality of the situation.

that's what most are saying ... maybe 24/30inches... i have a 5x5ft tent, with an overkill (so i am told) mars fce8000- i run it around 70pct, and the tops are 6-8inches above... i see no burning, or bleaching, i worry about the penetration hence the closeness- with only this run under my belt, and the plants not dried and cured yet, i have to with hold judgement of led's...

for sure it cuts down the electric bills.... my bill is down 18pct from the same period last year...

wow fox farm soil .... last year i was paying 21/22 bucks for the large bag... this year, only 1 local is stocking it at 29.99 a bag... instead i bought a bale of promix, and some bags of coast of maine- i'll mix em together with some castings, and lime...

Is there a correlation between increased calcium consumption and a lowering of certain enzymes, cofactors, or currently unknown cannabinoids (tho-o/thc-p type) that would account for a loss in noticable potency, while still retaining high test numbers under the current framework?

I'm wondering if the plants excessive need for Calcium under LED lighting is throwing off the natural metabolic process for creating these minor compounds. That coupled with the increased ambient temperature having an effect on the more volatile terpenes.

I've been using Promix since 1989. It's never let me down.
