Cloning with JJScorpio

I want to incorporate a heating pad into my cloning setup but I'm using a homemade bubbleponics setup. Where would the heat pad fit into this kind of setup? Does it make more sense to slightly raise the temperature of the water using an aquarium heating device? The heating pad wouldn't fit on the surface because of the holes on the lid.

Ahh My clone skills have been polished once again.

So all is well after a rough restart.. It had been a couple three years since I cloned and then that was my first time.

So heat pad!! Proper light!! humidity dome!!

I use soil blocks so I needed to bring my skills up to speed but now I'm good.

Thanks JJScorpio and everyone in this thread! It was helpful when i needed the support.

JJ......Incredible post....I've been 50/50 with cloning so far, but by reading through this post, I answered pretty well all the questions I needed answering. Just a few things I wanted to ask.....Theres not too much mention of PH , what Ph do you reccomend for cloning, or does it mater? And one last quick question. Is scraping the stem with a knife before dipping in root juice a bad thing or slow the process?
Thanks for putting together a great cloning package for us that are just getting started....i learnt alot

I've never really worried about the PH with cloning. The plugs are already PH balanced.

As for scarring the stems, I never really tried it. Whether it speeds things up or not, I can't say......

Ok...great...i just bought a tray of the RR plugs, so cant wait to give that a try....I've always been told to scrape the stems, but it looks like everyone gets great results without doing it, so I'm starting to think its a waste of time. Well thanks for all the great info....now i have to try and find out why my F.I plant hermaphed on me, and what i did wrong....I had some nice clones of it using some of your new techniques and they were looking great. But i through them all out when the F.I plant hermaphed.

Used this method for the first time ever attempting to clone and had 100% rate in 7 days. Just took 6 more today and dont expect anthing to be much different. Thanks JJ

Wow, this thread is still going strong! Thanks again...I had my first successful clones thanks to jjscorpio and rapid rooters over a year ago and I've had nearly 100% success. My last batch I didn't even take the lid off, or do anything and after a few weeks the roots were like 6 inches long...too easy.

100% every single time..lost 0% so far

after the clone shows roots in the RR and then you transplant in soil per say, if they are going to be in veg how long does it take for the clone to start vegging..i know their is a slight adjust period once transplanted in soil but how many days till they start to really shoot growth?

thanks :kos:

They are vegging as soon as they show roots. Once the roots are there the plant can take in nutrients and begin to grow,,,

I'm glad this thread has helped you folks with your cloning....

today is day 13 since i placed my cuttings into the rapid rooters and still no roots:( I beleive maybe their is not enough humidity in my dome and maybe i was letting them get too dry. they are still nice and perky and green wth only alittle yellowing on some tips that were cut, but not on the others with less leaf. I gave alittle tug on them and they seem to be starting to root but im not sure. kinda frustrating. i really hope they root...

It is a femenized plant from seed that i took the cuttings from, not sure if that would make them take longer to root or not or make them more prone to not cloning as easily. Sensi seed Big Bud.

SuperStarter Plugs vs Rockwool

SuperStarter Plugs vs Rockwool

Great Thread JJ--Alot of good info for the young and restless. I would like to add:::
I used rockwool for what seem like eons, thats how I learned and just fell into the habit of using the stuff. Yea I always presoaked and adjusted ph and all that.
In 2001 I decided to try Aero, after seeing some really crazy results while stationed in Tel Aviv back in the 90s.
At the same time I decided to purchase some Sunleaves Super Starter Plugs, and give them a try. Well I was hooked the 1st go round. I had such astounding results, I couldn't believe it. Anyway-----never used rockwool again.
I recently did a little test---Took about a dozen cuttings, half in rockwool the other half in Sunleaves Super Starter Plugs.
Yes the rockwool works as you can see they r rooting, BUT u can also see much better rooting results with the SSP.

Heres a pic after 10 days in the bubbler, "it speaks for itself". :woohoo:
