at first it seemed the cutting was doing good but then the top part started wilting so i pinched it off

all that was left was a little side node

i checked it today and their are roots but idk if would work now to try and plant it with that little side node

here are some pics

do any of you think it will be ok to plant ?

Hey budda, if it's still green on top and is forming roots below, it should be ok.

What light did you have the cut under?? and what light hours?? 24/0, 18/6 etc?

That being said Iv'e had the same thing happen occasionally, I put it down to either air getting into the cut before putting into water or my scizzors wern't clean and I infected the cut some how.

Shalom.

Did you leave it for a while as in the last photo?? as by the looks of it it this photo, all that has happened is the leaf as died. The "flower" cluster is still green and as it is in a state of reveg it would take some time to get new growth.

I take cuts from flowering stage up to 2 weeks into 12/12 and the cuts can take up to 3 weeks to start showing any real growth and yes the older leaves do die off.

It never recovered. The leaf sat in the pot for 6 weeks until the whole thing browned off and died. No sign of re-vegging. Mind you this was a leaf, not part of a stem which we normally use for clones.

Please give me some imput on this !

Please give me some imput on this !

The first clone i tried in water did not make it , i think it was maybe to small idk , the pic is a couple post up .

I just took about 5 cuttings that are a lot longer and their all in a party cup full of water

i took a pic so you can see how long it is ,

MY question is ,

Can all 5 cuttings stay in that same cup or do i need to separate them ?

Also are they to long ? if so how much do you recommend that i cut and trim up / down to ?

And last , would they benefit at all if their was a slight dose of superthrive in the water ?

your info is greatly appreciated

EDIT ,

Should i cut the leaves in half also ? thanks again you all

Hey Buddaluva

To answer, it doesn't matter what length they are as long as they are standing in water to form roots and also keeping them together is also ok.

The question of superthirive??, Iv'e never used it, or for that matter thought about it either. Just use plain water and let nature take its coarse. Ive' had about 99.9% success using this method so it's pretty fool proof. Having said that it can take up to 3 weeks for some cuts to form roots, but if it hasn't wilted and died with in the first week it sould be just fine.

Over the years, I've tried almost every substance related to growing you can think of (including superthrive) in the clone water and nothing has ever speeded up rooting to a noticable degree.

Since this thread was created, I've moved to a new area and found some unusual negative results with water cloning. I put it down to a different water supply because I have no idea what elsse to blame.

Most of my water clones do not root and form a whiteish translucent cloud around the cut in the water. This eventually leads to a rubbery stem and death of the cutting.

Water cloning has been successful for me in a bunch of geographic areas, but not the place I'm currently living, so I'm kind of at a loss. I wish I could get my Caprichoso account back and edit this info into the thread at the beginning...

Will it be ok to put in soil now or do i need to let the root get longer ?

Hey Cappy

Maybe you could try some bottled water or some RO water etc for the cloning purpose. Sounds like something in the water

Hey Buddaluva

Iv'e planted many times with a root like that and theyv'e always taken ok, just be sure not to plant into to hot a " soil mix". What I tend to do is to make a small depression/hole into the soil mix and fill up around the cut/clone with a seed raising mix. That way the new roots are in a "cool" soil mix at first and eventually grow into the nutes.

Oh and congrates on your new babies.......lol

Does it help if you use a dark mug or cup compared to a clear glass?
Thanks.

hey cappy! crackin read bud love the k.i.s.s. stuff/// my grandfather used this method with all sorts of plants and never failed to get ace results..been doin it this way for years with a few tweeks added as you do... i always use a very fine airstone/black pots with foil over the top no nutrients till roots over the inch and very very weak starting solution..when ready to pot on i use loose coco..usually ready to pot on after 10 days but with some strains iv gone 30 days before seeing a single root but never failed once with this style...good thread bud ;)
