Cloning in plain water under fluoros

Í now have a Northern Lights seedling under a 120W LED, my thought is to use it as an experimental mother. This water cloning seems interesting and I´ll try it but is rooting enzyme totally out when working with water?

Hi Cappy,

I got my clone to root, transplanted her it into a small cup and now she is in the humidity dome with a cup of water.

My questions:
1. How long to keep clone in the humidity dome?
2. Should I keep the light distance and light hours the same while in the dome?

OK thanks and have a great day!

@ Azure-

Probably 2+- weeks, then plant; a week in humidity dome proving there is alrady solid root system and a week, acclimating to new environment. As long as it has a healthy root system, plant her! Do the lighting the same as either indoors or outdoors light schedule.

Having used that method years ago, it works well...do all my house plants same way, too.

Question for you guys.........I chopped everything off Nov 1 and left basically just a STICK FIGURE like you drew in 1st grade with maybe 6-8 tiny buds on the bare plant
SIXTEEN DAYS later I have this.......since Im new and didnt take clones on the first one would NOW be the time to take some clones off this? Man I am SHOCKED at the difference in 16 days-if you had told me it would happen I wouldnt believe it!!

I just wanted to add my own 2 cents, about five years ago my mom introduced me to this method because she always laughed at how much i spent to clone my girls. She just put her flowers in a shotglass of water and stuck them in the window. To make a long story short i found a way to get roots in water in as little as six to eight days. Just use willow water (water that soaked with cut up willow branches overnight).

I want to add that if there is no willow in your area, you can also use stinging nettle to make an infusion (just like tea, boil the water and add chopped nettle). Then pour a bit of this home-made cloning solution to the water where you are rooting the cuttings. If you want to make the home made rooting liquid even more effective, make a mash of stinging nettle and water and let ferment for a couple of weeks (it will stink a bit, it's fine). Refrigerate and use in 1:10 water dilution.

damn really? ive never heard of that, any idea why it makes a difference? and just for my own curiosity, how did you decide to try putting willow branches in your water lol? this sounds interesting.
peace

Both willow and stinging nettle are natural sources of indole-butyric acid, which is the main ingredient in commercial rooting gels like Clonex, Dip n Grow, Rootech, Quick Clone, etc.

Nettle tea has the added benefits of having a ton of nutrients (it's actually considered to be a fertilizer, with trace elements that also help the cutting survive and thrive) and discourages pests, etc. Stinging nettle is really nature's perfect cloning agent.

Hello everyone, first time trying this method, unfortunately the stems are tending to rot, I placed some H2O2 (peroxide) in the water but it seems the root it just continuing. I have to admit that I'm having like ten clones in a glass..but I don't think that should be a problem...

may be I should make the glass non transaperent? thanks

Clean glassware and regular water changes are a good
place to start.

If your mum plants are healthy and your methods
are mostly clean, I would say keep cuttings one to
a jar, in case there is rot, that won't spread.

Low light intensity is important also.

Keep temps around 78F is important too.

Keep us updated, we're all counting on you!

I hope placing them in plastic cup will do no harm...was just wondering since it seems everybody is talking about glass bottels lol..anyway lets hope for the best this time round, hopefully no stem rot...

so one very last question or two...I read some where that willow water that is willow branches boiled in water or nettle tea that too being nettle leaves boiled in water speeds up the rooting process...

so today I went to the country side and got me a whole lot of nettle plants, just chopped and brought them home, filled a big pot with them and now I have about 5 liters of thick nettle tea :D...

since I fear stem rot, I'm going to change the water every two days, how do I incorporate this nettle tea in the whole process? use the nettle tea as cloning water? or just add some nettle tea to the cloning water?

and ..I understand light must be low..so I'm using a 50 watt cfl and the clones are like a meter from the light, I guess thats far for a cfl..
but I've also heard I should put them on a 12/12 light schedule, is that correct? currently I'm having them under 24 hour light constant, I don't bother to go and put off the light,, but if need be, I'm going to put a time on them..thanks to all who will comment.

18 on, 6 off.

12/12 is for setting plants ready for bloom, and to search for
sex in those plants. After sexing, those plants may be returned
to 18/6 to veg out, or continue in flower, as you wish.

8th day, no sign of root yet, but I'm holding on... at least all the clones look super green and healthy, no drooping, no yellowing...lushy green..

some clones started showing tiny roots after 12 days ! :)

but how much faster can I speed rooting with a bubbler in the water? any personal experience?

Bumping for epic thread!

Bumping for epic thread!

:bump:

This makes cloning sooo much easier. I cloned my fig trees with this and they're alread showing roots in 1 week.

I have had some clones in water now for 16 days now and still nothing. They continue to look green with no wilting or yellowing, but man.....
