How many years old is this planet/the earth - according to the bible?

I was told 50 years ago by a religious education teacher - that the bible dates this world to be around 3,500 years old or so -

* yeah, what is it with always having to pray as a form of communication (which never worked for me) - can't this God just show up and prove its existence - without us having to bend the knee?

Its good to ask questions! Enjoying the conversation. We all learn a little bit. The writings and stories in the bible are complex, everyone has their own interpretation, but its true if you seek, you will find, knock and the door will be opened. God shows you little signs, and gives thoughts He thinks. Its eye opening. God literally shows us the way! It means many things to many people. But the true christians have to believe Jesus was sent from God and gave his life to be crucified, and He miraculously rose again by an act of God, and they receive the Spirit. I guess its basically that simple. :smoke:

Matthew 7:7-12

Keep Asking, Seeking, Knocking

7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! 12 Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Matthew 6:5-15 Prayer

5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,[a]
but deliver us from the evil one.[b]’

14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

I love when Christians say don't worry about it....

Hahaha! Its hard to know what to say some times. I have studied the bible pretty intensively for about 10 years now, grew up in the church until early high school. But I don't know everything. You have to want it. Being a christian is a lot like muscle building. You grow closer to God as you take up your cross, follow Jesus, and walk by faith. :smoke:

If everyone has their own interpretation of the bible - how can there be any truth in it?

One person will say its this way - and another will say its not - so what is the point of following something that is so uncertain of itself that you could interpret it to mean anything?

Jesus loves you.

He may just allow his father to sentence you to an eternity of suffering to pay for your parents' crime of conceiving you coupled with the off chance you won't get some certain book shoved down your throat because some broad you never knew and couldn't stop ate some fruit off the no-no tree...

But he loves the everloving shit out of you.

But nonetheless will likely stand by as you burn forever.

Thats the nature of freedom and liberty. Its a God given right to believe how you want.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.[3]

Our job as christians is to help other people understand God's Word. We don't have to necessarily agree it happened exactly like the story to know and have a connection with God. The writings only are there as a tool to plug into the power of God in creation through believing Him in Jesus. :smoke:

Mark 9:38-40 New King James Version (NKJV)

Jesus Forbids Sectarianism

38 Now John answered Him, saying, “Teacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us.”
39 But Jesus said, “Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me. 40 For he who is not against [a]us is on [b]our side.

Romans 14 New King James Version (NKJV)

The Law of Liberty

14 Receive one who is weak in the faith, but not to disputes over doubtful things. 2 For one believes he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats only vegetables. 3 Let not him who eats despise him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats; for God has received him. 4 Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand.
5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; [a]and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s. 9 For to this end Christ died [b]and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living. 10 But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of [c]Christ. 11 For it is written:
As I live, says the Lord,
Every knee shall bow to Me,
And every tongue shall confess to God.”

12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. 13 Therefore let us not judge one another [d]anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way.

Don't die without drinking the Kool Aid or you don't live forever.

We drink wine in remembrance of Jesus's life and His spirit. It symbolizes His blood. Its inviting the Spirit of God in, to bless us and use us to do His will in creation.

Luke22:14-23 NKJV

Jesus Institutes the Lord’s Supper

14 When the hour had come, He sat down, and the [b]twelve apostles with Him. 15 Then He said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”
17 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves; 18 for I say to you, [c]I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”
19 And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you. 21 But behold, the hand of My betrayer is with Me on the table. 22 And truly the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!”
23 Then they began to question among themselves, which of them it was who would do this thing.

Ah - so 'God's Chosen People' becomes - 'Gods Chosen Bloodline' - it all seems overly class specific - as if to say that, if you are not of the 'Chosen Bloodline ' then you are just goy/kuffar - and you will not be accepted as an equal in these indoctrinated fundamentalist societies since you are considered to be an unbeliever or heretic of some sort.

- and how do you 'graft in gentiles?' - can you be more specific?
"I'm among the chosen... I walk with Jesus" = LOL, this is what a friend of mine lays claim to, then when he says that crap I remind him of the last 5 or 6 'less than christian' things that he's recently done :nono:

Jesus didn't come to condemn the world, He came to save. Repent and sin no more. Pray about it and move on. We are working christians. We aren't perfect, only God and Jesus are perfect, my friend! Thanks for stopping by! :smoke:

Jesus the Light of the World

8 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
2 Now [a]early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them. 3 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst, 4 they said to Him, “Teacher, [b]this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now [c]Moses, in the law, commanded us [d]that such should be stoned. But what do You [e]say?” 6 This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, [f]as though He did not hear.
7 So when they continued asking Him, He [g]raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.” 8 And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 Then those who heard it, being[h] convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10 When Jesus had raised Himself up [i]and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers [j]of yours? Has no one condemned you?”
11 She said, “No one, Lord.”
And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go [k]and sin no more.”
12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

Its about your will. It needs to be lined up with God's will. God knows the intentions of the heart, and we are sinful by nature. Its only through Him we are saved.

Time to get to bed. Just can't wait to go to church! God is good! I love the Lord! :smoke:

Matthew 7:13, 14 The Narrow Way

13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 [c]Because narrow is the gate and [d]difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Matthew 11:25-30 NKJV

Jesus Gives True Rest

25 At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes. 26 Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. 27 All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am [f]gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Santa Claus was created by man too - and I let that myth run in my sons mind until just recently after he turned 9 years old - I guess that he got a buzz out of believing Santa was true for years and it helped give Christmas that mystical aire somewhat for the kids - about some big jolly fat fella in a red suit with a beard giving them stuff -

He eventually sussed out that Santa's not really real - kids do grow up eventually.

"Anyone who believes the rapture is biblically illiterate."

Use whatever name you wish.

1 Corinthians 15
51 Behold, I tell you a [m]mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

1 Thessalonians 4
15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are [d]asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

The timing is what some Christians debate. Pre wrath post trib is what makes sense to me.

Matthew 24
The Coming of the Son of Man
29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days....
