negril

Been to Negril a handfull of times and am planning a trip soon . Been to NY twice and see absolutely no reason to go back there . Good weed can deff. be found in negril and its not hard to find . But look before you buy and dont cave from pressure to buy what you dont like. Oh and Jam. is cheaper than going to NY overall .
Peace

New York and Negril. Now those are two totally opposite ends of the spectrum. Go somewhere warm and sunny man. If you don't have your heart set on Jamaica, research some other islands. There are plenty of package options online. Smoke some herb and start searching cheaptickets.com for some deals.

Depends on what you want to do...relax in tropical oasis (Jamaica), experience a different culture, food, music (ganja).....
Bud Green Sr. is in the know. Stay away from larger locales, you'll really enjoy the vibe. Had a friend in the Peace Corps in the late 80's reside in Kingston during her stint. She lost some of her hearing from the blaring Reggae. Ha! Really!

OR

New York, (experience the city, then find more rural atmosphere to round it out) chock full of iconic features (Times Square, the TV networks, 9/11 Memorial, Statue of Liberty, etc.)the wharfs, museums, off Broadway plays, street carts, multi-cultural eateries, America's architecture, infamous taxi rides! In rural NY, plenty of fruit stands, orchards, Adirondacks and Catskill mountains. Best of both worlds, if there is such a thing in NY. To experience it once...worthy the $$.

And, depends on $$$ you want to spend.

Recall many telling me about Amsterdam, sidewalks full of dog shit, it smells of urine, pick pocketers deluxe (as with any large metropolitan area). True, but there's so much more! Didn't dissuade me from going there 8 times in 12 yrs.! After a week in Amsterdam, I always enjoyed the beach cities of Zandvoort or Scheveningen.

Consider looking for short stay apartment vs. hotel. You can buy goods at corner markets and cook and better place to relax. That's the only way we travel now. Motel/hotel rooms stifling.

Combo 'deals': hotel/flight isn't always the cheapest.

HAVE FUN wherever you decide!

We decided on NYC. We love architecture and all that stuff. OK so if We got a place with a kitchen to cook our own food. Ill have to look up good authentic NYC recipes.
Also Im a photographer and love photographing architecture buildings and nature. and we plan on doing a lot of the free and cheep things in nyc.
Trust me we spend a lot of time looking at both Jam and NYC.
We decided that there might not be enough stuff to do in JAM but just sit on the beach with a drink in hand.

plus IM only 33 so I have the rest of my life to travel.

hmmmmm.......

I've been to Jamaica 3 times, but grew up in NY.

NY for sure but stay across the river on the jersey shore, I just looked @ vacation rentals in Long Branch and found one for $110 per night, rent a car and travel 1 hour north to use the PATH train in Hoboken to cross into Manhattan @ 14th street in a matter of minutes.

Feel like relaxing 1 or 2 days? you're already @ the beach and could still be in NYC every evening still. make it interesting and take a ferry across the Hudson, just make sure you know you'll need to take a train back if you guys are coming in late, that Jersey side ferry depot would need to be along an accessible rail station.

The food:
the pizza is to die for

Nathan's Hot Dogs in Times Square

Gray's Papaya (B'way & 72nd St) or Papaya King (179 E. 86th St.) for great
dogs & cool papaya & other fruit drinks.

6th street between 1st & 2nd Avenues, you'll find no less than 20+ Indian restaurants on that one block.

DON'T miss Churrascaria Plataforma @ 316 W 49th St, it's expensive but worth the jing, Google that name to check out their website. one meal @ Plataforma is worth 10 of the best in Jamaica.

Do you want authentic Jamaican Jerk Chix??? I've got a feeling you'd find it in NYC.

Museums, Hayden Planetarium, Statue of Liberty, 9/11 Memorial, Strawberry Fields in Central Park & the Dakota where John Lennon lived. maybe a thousand other things to see & do.

woo hoo. I cant wait to go. thinks for the info guys.
where is a good place to go hear live music.

"maybe a thousand other things to see & do." we plan on packing in as many things to see and do as we can.

My other 2 cents, flights are going to be cheap around 9/11. I found airfare for %75 off to DC on 9/11. Probably impossible with kids, though. First school days and all.

Upstate New York is nice, Boston is nice, although a police state. I always found NYC to be an expensive, noisy shit hole, but it'll be cool if you've never been to see it for the first time.

Definitely should be experienced.
Last time I went to NYC, we followed the weekend with a drive up to Newport, Rhode Island and stayed there a week. Good contrast, and a nice chill out.

Well if it wasn't a specific time of year "The Dog Days of August" then I'd say either are great places to visit. I'm inclined to say NYC is better visited in the fall or spring although New Year's Eve in Time's square can be one of those one in a lifetime experiences you cherish forever. Being in any big city when it's hot and the air is still is a miserable time. Now Jamaica can also be a once in a lifetime experience and has a lot of really new and different experiences to take in. Jamaica in my opinion though is best visited in the winter where it is also a nice reprieve from the cold since Jamaica is warm year round. Plus in the summer time it gets down right hot and if you're unlucky you might find a hurricane rolling in on you. August is when the hurricane season really starts picking up.

All things considered, if it were me I'd go with Jamaica
