Sounds like it... Male to female hermies are apparently good for guarding against hermafrodites in the progeny..

He is a stud for sure, keep up the good s**t Doc dizzle. :sasmokin:

cheers BeAn dude

me figure that this is what Mel Franks would term an "abonormal flower"

me also figure that if pollen from an otherwise female plant carries xx chromosomes, that the progeny from the sepal of an otherwise male flower will carry XY chromosomes (male only plants)?

At this pointn please feel free to correct me if Im getting too technical for myself...lol

Alas progeny fertilized from normal females and XY males = plants with a tendency for a percentage of males in ratio or what ??? someone please explain ? ?

Zamalito,,, we need chronic assistance with this one,,, :chin:
WhereTF is Growdoc when yo need him??? (Growdoc = cannabis) lol

peace out all

Ok the Chitral male/ abnormal flower had its day...

the stalks taste spicy/peppery to chew on, like Skunk.
Overall the plant was healthy and showed signs of both Chitral and Skunk ancestory in pattern of leaf.

peace out dLeaf

Citral along with mazar-i-sharif and kandahari are all technically hindu kush varieties

Yes for Chitral, but surely not for the others ! Mazar e Sharif could rather be of Uzbek or Tajik origin, and for Kandahar, this is well far away from Hindu Kush and, also I have nothing to prove it, it could be sativa strain thas is grown there. Such it is in Tirah valley, whichis in Khyber Agency. an area that is closer to Kandahar on an environmental and cultural basis.

Unfortunately many of the dutch cultivars of various landrace represent a small portion of the traits available from that region many times they aren't even an accurate depiction and more a selection of traits that fits indoor the growing style.

Indeed, Chitral is an area of very high genetic diversity. anything from short indica to tall and thin sativas.

Sadly this region at least was and maybe still is off limits to those with american passports for quite some time.

haha ! of course not ! Chitral is DEFINITELY ONE OF THE SAFEST place were one can travel in Pakistan, American or not.

Kashmir is also a region many western passports are not allowed to travel.

agh, wrong again, Kashmir is open to any foreigners form any country.

Its somewhat unrelated but drgreenthumb has a phenomenal kashmiri landrace collected by those who wish to preserve a true indica landrace that is the same as it was 1000 yrs ago.

Kashmir is rather a sativa place. Not seen any cultivated indica overthere, only sativas. Let's not forget that it used to be the place were charas for India's Ashrams was produced, nowhere else you'll find a stuff with such amazing spiritual properties !

vast region stretching from Afghanistan, across Pakistan NWF, S. Tajikistan and S.W. China

nope, afghanistan and pakistan exclusively.

The other pheno among kunar valley/chitral cannabis is imported indica that appeared in the late 70s and is very similar to the more modern kashmir indicas that were brought in for commercial charas production from afghanistan.

Hmm, from what people told me ther, Indicas have been grown in Chitral area since much more ancient times.

This sounds very close to clarke's description of chitral and is probably from the region

Loads of this kind in Islamabad an Potahar plateau. Most probably as well in oterh areas of Punjab ans Sindh as well.

While the people of this region are more close culturally to the people of afghanistan than pakistan the fact that they smoke charas instead of hashish and their cannabis is similar to nepalese/kashmir landrace makes me think that their cannabis culture is from nepal/north india.

Charas is the name that is given to the pressed polm in Chitral (and Pakistan/Afghanistan) it's also the name of the plant in North Afghanistan. Hash traditions overthere rather come from Central Asia/Persia areas.

No real links between Chitral kingdom and India in old times. Chitral was very dangerous place (part of former Yaghistan - land of the murderer) and any "Indian" making its way up there (provided he managed to make the way safely) would have ended up as a slave or killed.

So it appears the fine quality chitrali charas of the 70s was made from sativa plants that probably exist no longer unfortunately.

Chitral area is still full of sativas, and I am almost sure that this handrubbed charas Clark talks about was actually made by foreigners.

Why wait for a 15 week sativa , when you can double-crop an 8week indica (in Afghan fashion at 5 and 9 week) and pull x2 loads of hashish into market before Winter sets in

nay, people know their stuff there and they won't sell a fresh resin without letting it ageing. Plus, winter is an important time of hash production, for it is the season of pressing. People there have not that time-obssessed mind that people have in the west. in Yarkhun, plants can mature up to December (Indicas) and it makes the best hash I've been told. In these lands it pays to wait...

the best charas/hashish is hand rubbed, from sativa, in India, IMO

Not that easy to find "the best" in India actually. For that better go Afghanistan or even Kashmir, this best of the best ! and dry sieved, not hand rubbed.

Afghan (Mazar/Herat) is a shorter more compact plant, broad leaf structure and sticky resin production. quicker flowering time.

I don't think you can link these two strains, Mazar would be rather Uzbek/tajik related, while the Herati would rather be Iranian related.

I have plenty of pics of Chitral plants growing there, I'll put my hands on the CD and post a few of'em.

Irie !

Hi Mriko,

Good to see you on this site spreading the knowledge.

I was lucky to receive some Chitral Wild Sativas from the ARICA team and will also post some pictures of the Chitral Wild Sativa grown and preserved from the ARICA lines. Will do as soon as possible.

Also have done a 'Indica' Chitral, made a assecion, a very nice and very purple plant.

Makes a nice comparision, as Mriko says, everything from tall, thin Sativas through to short and fat Indica types from the region.

My bests, Queijo

QUESTIONS

a) Does anyone know anything about the specific history of the cultivar Chitral ???

I've always assumed it as follows,,,, could be way off track :chin:

IBL Chitral Valley, Pakistan --> to --> Positronics, NL. [1980's]

Chitral (x Skunk) by Positronics, NL --> to ---> Nirvana Seeds B.V. NL and Homegrown Fantaseeds, NL [1990's].

b) Can anyone suggest if the Chitral used in the 1980's was a wild or cultivated strain ???

C) Was this strain bought back to Europe by Mr Dronkers???

please help cast light unto shadow folks...
peace

"Feed me ganja weed. Always notorious.."

I'm not so sure how it fits into the picture but I just finished Chitral X Thai from Positronics.

I've tried to find good info on both Positronics' pure Chitral line and the Thai cross that we grew out. The Chitral X Thai was/is fantastic BTW.

Hi Firewalker

As one of the original seed outlets in Holland, many old lines descend from the house of Positronics  (home of the sinsemilla fan club)

As we understand it; these original lines were then divided between the growers that had a hand in their procreation. Subsequently, these growers/breeders all went their seperate ways. later they opened their own seed shops.

A quick glance across the caterlogues of Sensi Seed Bank B.V., Flying Dutchmen, Nirvana B.V., High Quality Seeds, and Homegrown Fantaseeds, shows a selection of genetics which all descend from the same Positronics stock.

Mean time Positronics have recently re-opened their doors to the public :D

so i had a he she of c99 from gn collection and pollinated some sourdog by jlp what is the chances of it being a good cross? the he she was from a pack of 03 female seed pack and it was the only seed out of 3 that made it out of 15. it had some really nice phenos in that pack
the plant was mostly male with some hairs in some places.are these males the desirable.
phenos or what ? i have like 100 seeds to play with .from chronic to kalimist crossed to it.

This clone,, has taken forever and ever, and ever to flower,, we have indica plants that are 30days + behind her that have already caught up in floral depth. lol

The resin content is worth waiting on,, something you can't afford to miss! This plant will go all the way to the end of flower.. grown in coco pon widow (no lamps),, with 100% organic feed (guano and wood ash tea)

When harvested Chitral x Skunk #1 really does smell like Bold 2in1 (fabric cleaning powder) ,, now i get what Wernard et al. are chatting about. lol But that smell goes as soon as the erb dries out a little bit... which explains why we never experience this scent from coffeeeshop Chitral :D

The best thing about this herb is the resin profile,,, can't wait to bubble the trim waste up into hashish

All Dan Gar Gan,, stand strong! :canabis:
