thanks brother. they seem to like this sub-tropic weather here in the dirty south so to speak.

this state needs to take after the laws of colorado. would make thing's so much easier and i think girls like this could be so much bigger i can only imagine what she could be.

its great to see the CB express herself properly in some space and sunshine :)

i agree with satsv that it looks very mexican

IIRC Mr.G said the high of the CB was comparable to chocolate thai, not sure whether he thought the genetics were. i chatted to him quite a bit about the CB so i'll check my old PM's etc to see what he said.

Beautiful Cherry Bomb, flboy!

I have both the Cherry Bomb & Kahuna Bud x Cherry Bomb to go through,
Mr. G. did speculate that he thought it had some Thai in it,

But looking into the BOEL story - who are most likely responsible for most of the genetics that hit HI circa '79 - it's probably more likely a combination of Mexican and Afghani genetics...

Satva's opinion that it looks like a Mexican Sativa would seem about on-point, with the version of the story that I'm familiar with.. I haven't much exposure to Mexican Sativas personally, to have any personal opinion/basis, but the observation lines up with "the story"

flboy, are the seeds from a CB male..? Or a cross?
Or no clue? Lol

i selected a green male from the same seeds i had and hit this girl with him so yes it is cherry x cherry. i think next time i will use a red stem male to a red stem female as the nose from this girl is most lovely to me. there should be a large number of seeds from this round

Hey verdantgreen, here is Mr. Greengenes quote where he speculates ~ Thai x Hawaiian indica. I'd guess flboy's female is Red Hair Mexican NLD - Oaxacan dominate. There's perhaps eight or nine varieties of Oaxacan grown in Oaxacan definitely an Oaxacan Gold and an Oaxacan Red. No doubt some Oaxacan NLDs have Thai and or Colombian influence, and some Oaxacans have some WLD influence. I read somewhere that Mexican Red Hair is Mexican x Colombian - (Oaxacan x Punto Rojo).

This Oaxacan bagseed from Copalita smells of coffee and tobacco.

Punto Rojo phenotypes have sweet tropical fruit aromas, others are spicy.

Yeah, long petiols. Most CB plants are just plain big and grow aggressively. Some have shorter internodes, but are still big overall. A smaller percentage (maybe one in ten) are almost compact in an 'indica' kind of way.

My guess on the origin of the Maui Wowee that CB came from is that it was originally a pure sativa by way of Thailand and possibly crossed with an indica while in Hawaii. In the first generation, there were only two females, but some five or more males. All of CB is down from one of those females. I regret that I gave the all of the seeds of her sister to a friend who lost the line. That was back when I didn't know better. The sister was smaller, lower yielding, but with honey sweet oily resin that was quite 'Thai-ish'. Now I wish I'd kept her in the mix because, though she might have been a tad less potent, she had a sweeter more fruity smell and taste. The main CB female was also quite 'Thai-ish' and had a strong cherry lifesaver taste with a metallic finish and oily resin (the kind that creeps up the doobie and turns the paper brown). The kind of Thai weed I'm referring to is not the kind we used to get on sticks, but the very gourmet 'chocolate thai' of the early-mid seventies. Cherry Bomb still reminds me, and others who've smoked it, of that chocolate thai. Other smells and tastes sometimes associated with CB are coffee and tobacco. Due to my some times too ruthless selections, CB has got a bit more potent over the years, which may possibly mask some of the more subtle flavors and smells. I've noticed that there's a relationship between the red stems and petiols and the fruity metallic tastes, and also that those tastes are easier to detect in less potent plants.

Anyway, it's really great that CB is finally getting out in it's pure form and being grown by such conspicuously successful master growers as Verdant Green. I made the decision to spread CB as far and wide as I could back in '04 but made mistakes along the way. Now, with the ICMAG server fund I'm finally seeing my wish come true! It's a happy day for Mr. Greengenes. :)

here is the cherry bomb as of today. i can't believe how tight the flowers are getting down the line of rock hard. if you look hard you can see a few branches laid down on the net. lucky the net is there or they would have snapped under there own weight. she has gotten the heavy tropical fruity thing going on loud as i walk up to her. i tied her up the best i can for the weather this place is suppose to get and can only hope for the best.

i'm thinking i will give them the rest of the month and see how they look. i have a bunch of seed on her so i need to make sure she finishes them up to. that is if the weather holds up. there calling for 40-60 mph winds here so i hope the tops can take that but the seeds are down low so no worry there.

how's the weather treating you. did you get a chance to finish yours up
