I been running a 150w cmh bulb for my seedling. They are about a week now and stretching a little bit. Got a hold on a 400 CMH bulb now. Can my seedlings handle this light? what distance lamp to canopy should i have with a 400w?

I can't help you with the WHY.....but I can tell you that Phillips is very serious about vertical only. Mine came with a big warning not to run horizontally.:tiphat:

The answer is heat dissipation and spectrum. If you run a vert lamp hor, it might explode and the spectrum won't be even. Bad idea.

860 is a nice lamp.

Thanks Drek!:tiphat: I haven't run anything else so I can't compare it to anything. So far it sure seems to be getting the job done. No complaints other than when I accidentally brushed against it once.

I became a big fan of enclosed fixtures one day 3 years ago when I came back to growing. I was asking questions in a grow shop when another guy, obviously a grower, came in & had a really big nasty burn on the back of his neck & head that was healing up... So I asked him about it & he said it was an open grow lamp.

No fun. Hurt long time, I'm sure. None for me, thanks anyway.

If I ever go that way it'll only be with O rated lamps. I've already had a lifetime supply of flying white hot shit from welding & cutting...

I hear you brother. Fortunately mine was on my arm....but I've come close with my head. I have no idea how vert growers manage doubles and even triples.
Hope you and yours have a Happy Easter! :tiphat:

Awesome thread, took some time to read trough it. I have a question regarding 150W CMH lamp - Phillips MASTERC CDM-T Elite 150W/930 G12

Most sellers here offer electronic ballast which are rather expensive and I would rather buy a used one on eBay because its almost 4 times less money. I know that 150W >and less W can work on electronic ballasts if they are made for CMH lamps. I already contacted the seller on eBay but I would like to hear the opinion from you guys here (I don't want to end up injuring myself). Here are the pics of the ballast

What do you think is it ok to use it for phillips 150w CMH or should I buy a brand new ballast? Thanks!

I can't seem to edit my posts so I have to post another post :)

This is the second eBay item and I can't ask the seller about it as he turned off getting msgs.

Would this one work better? Does it matter if its already used? Thanks!

Also the recommended electronic ballast from phillips - HID-PV C 150 /S CDM doesn't need an ignitor but I'm not sure if that also applies to ballast's I posted in the pictures above.

I Bought a used philips like the one in our pic. Work great for philips cdm-TP 830 bulb

Great price for 150w CMH system, Got used ballast for 20$ inc shipping and 15$ for a new 830 bulb and got a free used 942 bulb

Got my 150w system cheaper then DIY PLL :dance013:

The circuit diagram on the label has no igniter so you don't need one. It's built in.

I am trying to assemble a 150W CMH system for my 2X2 tent. I have learned a lot from this thread and one that I started. For you 150W growers, do you have a good source for bulbs and ballasts?

I am considering the following. Any thoughts?

Light: https://www.1000bulbs.com/product/57194/MHS-015020018.html
Ballast: https://www.1000bulbs.com/product/64022/BV-V90D7130K.html

I have also considered the Philips Agro 210W, but it's been hard to find -- and only in 4200K. I could handle the watts but it's expensive.

Thanks for your insight.

That lamp & ballast should be compatible. Alternatively, you might consider this-

It's an odd marriage of a mag ballast & the philips 210w CDM lamp. I'm sure it works well or Venture wouldn't offer it as a kit. You don't have to come up with a lamp holder, either.

Neither lamp is open fixture rated so you'll want some sort of enclosed fixture in either case.

Thank you Jhnnn. I called Metal Halide Shop to see if they had this kit with a 3100k bulb but didn't get an answer. Seemed sketchy. Have you purchased from them before?

At first I thought I could go with just the 4200, but the chart shows that the red spectrum is not well represented. Am I right that this may not be great for flowering? (I also don't think this is a Philips bulb, which probably isn't a big deal as long as it's not junk.)

Here is where I am at this point.

4x4x7 Tent
Vertical Grow
2 stacked 315's, upper light on 24/7, lower light on 18/6
Screens, one plant per screen, each screen is 5.5 sq ft. giving me 27.5 sq ft. of grow /6. Plants tied to the screen, not run thru the screen like a vertical SCrog.
Drip irrigation, DTW, primary rez is 10 gallon, secondary is 20 gal. Three cycles, 8AM, 4PM, and 12AM, two at 7 min, no runoff, and one at 10 min 20 to 30% runoff.
Canna nutes
Temps, 79 to 84 degrees

5/7

5/23

5/22 Group pic

5/22 Lights out

5/18 Lights on

Have about two to three more weeks of veg then approx 70+ days of flower.
Shooting for 1g/W or better.
