No one said that the Elite CDM's weren't more efficient, just that they aren't the only 3-4k solution that will work.
Nice deflection.
Yes, you said that the 315 was more efficient. You also have said repeatedly that a CDM is a CDM. The literature clearly makes the point that the Elite series is significantly different than prior generations - it lasts longer, has a higher efficacy, uses marginally lower wattage, and the Agro is a tuned horticultural lamp. Yes, other lamps work well for growing - I've got a whole case of T9 930's that work very well.....just not quite as well as the Agro.
Anyone that has spent the money is obviously going to say that the magic 315 is sooo much better....however, I majorly doubt the advantage is actually what they think they're seeing, as much as what they're not. The electrical efficiency and cost efficiency.
I think 315 owners want to make them more different than they actually are. At it's heart a CDM is a CDM... Allstarts work on magnetics, for sure. New ones are engineered to handle high frequency electronics; don't think there's anything TOO amazing there. Or is there? The very nature of a CDM is high pressure, they're all high pressure. Anyway, they aren't that special to me, I see them for what they are....and sure, I'd run one...but I would kid myself about what it is. It's a ceramic metal halide, designed to run on electronics to save $, etc.
> If it isn't a CDM, they should call it something else.
Either way....all of them are CDM's at their root. I'm kinda getting tired of the 'elite'(marketing name) being mystified as some magical wand designed by the elven kings.
CDM, CMH...whatever you want to call it...same salts more or less, same arcs more or less. Don't really care what ballast it is...yes, electronic(designed specific ones) are more efficient but have shorter lives, and besides, I have no plan on running 50 of them. Electronic ballasts are more efficient and extend bulb life...again, no mystery there.
Again, has nothing to do with the basic premise behind the arc that makes a CDM a CDM.
