Can I increase my odds of getting a male for breeding?

The seed's sex is determined by it's genetics, not
environments.

But alter that environment & the stress can alter or increase the seeds capability of coming out male , fact .
Thread title reads , Can I increase my odds of getting a male for breeding ?

the answer is yes . All these experts are quoting this or that with their knowledgeable means but not looking at the thread title .

says somebody who ignored the fact that his mentor
talked bullshit himself.. sorry to say so.

without getting further abusive and sorry to be so
lets just stop quarreling around like bored little children
lets go on with some proper stuff please,
the question is answered.

Alright smart guy. Since you're so certain chimera is wrong why don't you put up some scientific proof? I'd love to see it.

and for the record chimera isn't my mentor, my idol, my anything. I don't know him, and have had very little direct interaction with him. I have however read a great deal of what he's written here and else where. The man knows what he's talking about. How do I know? Might have something to do with spending the last 15 years or so studying horticulture and related subjects.

hey Mister_D i know you are cranky
but i was suggesting a workshop so lets role it on
i did never study genetics but i would wish
seeing some real pros speaking up,

and just because i didnt study biogenetics
doesn mean to say that i dont know
what kind of temper is going.

so chill down and lets get started.

Right, because Chimera can just say something, but anything to the contrary requires "scientific proof."

Why don't you just admit you're too stupid to participate in this discussion, and go elsewhere? The Toker's Den sounds more like your speed.

I already explained to you that what Chimera is claiming goes directly against my personal experience, and that of others who have witnessed the same thing. The onus of proving us wrong lies on your shoulders. If you can't be bothered to offer even one logical argument which casts doubt on our ideas, then what good are you?

I'm calm as hindu cattle my man. My original remark was directed at candidly, not you btw. Thanks for admitting this subject isn't your place to comment :tiphat:. As for real pro's, chimera is definitely a real pro. Do a little research on the man, might change your mind a bit.

Chimera has an excellent reputation for not only having scientific proof to back his posts, but also direct experience with breeding and related genetic endeavors (like actually doing genetic testing on tissue samples). You on the other hand are a nobody trying to make an argument without any kind of evidence to support your theory, and you're not even arguing with the person you disagree with. Your suggestion that I'm the stupid one is amusing. I guess the 3492 times I've been repped is just because I'm such a likable guy . Probably forgot more yesterday than you've learned in your illustrious grow career :tiphat:. That said I won't be posting in this thread any more.

Right. That's why, after saying offhand "yeah I've already tested this with genetics and it's true", he also replied with direct proof (papers, documentation, detailed information), to back that up.

Or not.

You on the other hand are a nobody trying to make an argument without any kind of evidence to support your theory,
Right, because "this has been observed by countless people over decades, including by me personally" isn't any kind of evidence at all.

I already told you what you need to do in order to reproduce my direct experience.

You can conduct an experiment, based on the information already posted, and put this argument to rest.

So why the hell don't you?

Why is it so important for you to beat others down until they agree with your bullshit, or just shut up cause they're tired of arguing with your obtuse ass?

Your suggestion that I'm the stupid one is amusing. I guess the 3492 times I've been repped is just because I'm such a likable guy .
Because this is my first account on here. And because scientific correctness is determined by karma.

Ridiculous.

Probably not.

:good:

Out of 6 seeds you will get some males; usually the ratio it half half but it can vary either way.
Like when you toss a coin; law of averages says you will get heads half the time and tails half the time; in practice sometimes out of 10 throws you will get 7 heads or you might get 7 tails.
Germinating seeds is the same; sometimes I have got an equal number of males and females, other times more females and the odd time mostly males.
But out of 6 you are sure to get at least one male.

By the way George Cervantes and Ed Rosenthal weren't scientists, and their conclusions weren't drawn from scientific experiments.

then why do you quote me when you are talking to somebody else?
is it fun for you to play games or maybe you should not smoke that stuff too much
for a couple of days it seems you cant take it well i am serious.

you can talk a lot of bullshit the whole day wasting others time
if you have nothing to do then go and ask your mentor which you obviously love so much
if he can talk you into further details on how to ignore the actual topic with precision.

now you are backing up some good guy who was too lazy to read
he sure knows a lot i know about him well, this it not about him not about you
this is about a question, dont forget it.

be calm as a cattle bro but that doesnt seem to help you
to realize what you doing yourself.

you guys are seriously so bored that you make a fucking elephant out of a little fly
chattering around like little frustrated chicks who didnt get to fuck :D

get going

I'm looking to do a seed run and have a limited number of seeds to work with (6.) I'm working with Northern Lights. I purchased 20 of them a couple years ago (I don't grow much) and have never gotten a male despite them being regs. Is there a way to increase my odds of getting a male to work with?

Yes, raise your temps to get male, lower them to get females. So if
you germ 100 seeds in high temps you'll get 100 males and no females.

high one last time for now, just wanted to apologize to all.

it seems some people are a bit pissed
so i hope sooner or later everybody can give each other a hug or 2 again.

i say this whole thread was a bit of a misunderstanding
even though some useful things might have been said by everybody.
things quickly took a wrong turn off and landed in a dead end.

so i wish everybody can get over it and that everybody
gets to take out of it what they need.

i always ask myself in such situations
when people brawl over each other..
to mix or not to mix..

but it could be maybe answered with this question
to be or not to be

Mister_D is sure right i have nothing much to say
but i just hate seeing people being oppressive on each other
over nothing, over things which can be done so easy
if we sometimes would take a step back to see what we are doing.
this thread is a small but perfect parade example for that.

i am 100% positive that everybody does his best in a perspective
which only you can see yourself and therefore in an overall perspective
which we often do not see.

peace and love
and cu around

So if
you germ 100 seeds in high temps you'll get 100 males and no females.

Well, not exactly. It does depend on the individual genetics in question. Every seed you sprout has a different combination of genetic 'factors' which influence its development. Some seeds may readily 'become' male with stress, while others will be stubbornly female no matter what you do to them, or vice versa.

The only way I can think of to really test things and prove it one way or another, is to take the shells off some seeds and grow from each a culture of undifferentiated cells in agar media, then develop that into multiple individual plants for each seed. So from each seed you might get 5-10 different plants for instance, which have the exact same genetics as the seed. You could then try growing them to sexual maturity under different conditions to see what happens.

To that I'll add my experience, I had a single seed I sprouted, when it germinated I had TWO plants - twins. When flowered I had one male AND one female..........from the same single seed normal in every detail, on the outside.
