Butane Residue Test Results

Wow this is great information. I received some samples of Whip-it! 7x, 9x, and the premium. Unfortunately my numbers on the 7x and 9x read differently on the bottom. Does anyone have any idea as to why the 5x would be cleaner than the 7x&9x if they are coming from the same manufacture in korea? I have been offered some nice prices on some masters for all 4 grades of Whip-it! but can't decide if i should get the 5x for the cost or grab the premium for the quality. there is $150 price difference. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

From the ebay offering,

"NEW!! Whip-it!
(the gas professionals) "from same factory as power5x with additional cold filter"
Made in Korea
Purified 5x
times through
several chambers
of active carbon towers, which are made of
charcoal filters that refine the Whip-It!
butane gas from all impurities and odor.
Further purified through a molecular sieve,
known as synthetic zeolites, ensuring final
product with zero impurities.
Optimum composition ratio of N-butane and
ISO-butane molecules warrant maximum
internal compression topping the industry.
Most effective combustion quality assuring
highest burn rate and cleanest burn.
Extensive quality control; Final product goes
through diligent inspection processes that
follow the ISO 9001, TUV and EN-417
European Standard quality control
procedures."

Same for the whip-it! 7X, they're claiming they start with Power 5X and 7X, and further refine it.

I suggest looking at Ultra Pure and Special Blue 5X and 7X also.

Thanks for the quick response. I asked my source to see if they had access to the exact same batch of whip-it 5x as you and he said he found out that they had two different batches of the 5x from two different warehouses with slightly different cans. I attached a picture for you to see. 5x.jpg

From two different factories in korea**. I like the prices on special blue, do you notice a significant difference between the special blue and ultra pure brands?

Special Blue 5X, 7X, 9X, and Ultra Pure are from the same company, just like whip-it! 5X, 7X, 9X, and Premium are from the same company. They're both also into NO2 distribution. Their English products are clearer and sweeter than the X's from Korea.

Yeah, their NO2 chargers are used for charging whipped cream dispensers. It makes sense for them to go into the butane canning business, as they already have the expertise and machinery needed for canning pressurized gases.

I just want to say thank you for creating this thread and conducting your research. We need more threads like this.

Much love

Online, there's just one retailer with cases of Hitman for $70, no other source, would you care to send me a can, I'm in the Inland Empire region of SoCal.

I need London also...

I just bought a case of the 5x hitman butane at a headshop for $45(Can). I asked for Colibri and the owner of store highly recommended the hitman for extraction. Maybe I shoulda just stuck with the Colibri as it was the same price.

I have been using the whip-it 5x. It works great, and the price cannot be beat. Contacted a supplier on ebay and got a master case. Came out to be less than $25 per case(12). Bout to go do some runs now!!

Hi SkyHighLer,
Nice work. Just wondering if you seen or tested FasfFil Made in England yet. Picked up box other day and new boxes store had were from England, 1st time I've seen FasFil with out Korea stamped on it and the cans say Made in England as well.

Sky from all this testing do you think all the butane is basically the same except for the amount of mystery oil in it? I wondering if there is any reason to buy premium can butane if the mystery oil can be removed with a terp.

It should all be about the same after you distill it, if distilling works as you guys are taking it for granted it does... GW said he was going to do multiple distillations and check after each to see how many passes it actually takes, if one doesn't do it...

Why I have trouble believing just 'running through a terp' is going to render it 'Mystery Oil' free, is why don't they distill it before canning it? Or distill it just one more time....

Capital N-Butane and Puretane are nearly pure n-butane so that should be figured in when purchasing for a closed loop system.

I kinda assumed the 'Mystery Oil' is the coating on the inside
of the can. Put there shortly after manufacturing the tin (?) to keep
it from rusting before it's turned into a can. I figure the butane washes
it off. I could be totally wrong, of course...

I doubt that it's a single lubricant, GW had it analyzed, it's composed of incredibly small amounts of a gazillion different buggers, with the most obnoxious components having some of the smallest percentages.

If you guys would link your buddies to the Best to Worst Butane list, and mention it whenever discussing butane at your local smokeshops, we can get the relatively crappy brands of canned butane from being used in open blasts.

Everyone should know the $6 cans of Ronson at their Walgreens is clean.

So its possible that can tapping might not remove all the mystery oil? I just can tapped 10lbs, the mystery oil left over was gross.

Sorry to space this thread for about a month.
(Seriously think I shouldn't have been open blasting/smoking any of the gear blasted with the (Korean) Champ 7X, as I've definitely experienced some issues since running a couple large batches blasted with Champ 7X)(Memory issues, like if you've huffed too much varnish or something similar.)

I think Champ is basically dirty (er, lol) Power 5X.
Not really worth the effort of getting a bottle to you for testing, although I'll keep my eyes open for more in the Denver area, so your testing results can be more comprehensive.
