Building a 4x6 hidden room

I've been pretty busy working my day job this week. Thought I'd post anyway as long as I'm logged into Tor.

The good thing about working is that I got paid and was able to order the rest of the supplies I need.

Put an order in for 16 tubes of Green Glue and 7 tubes of their acoustical sealant (to caulk the seams with) at www.soundisolationstore.com

Got a Solis Tek 1000w ballast at Amazon. There's a fancier Solis Tek, with a timer and remote, but I don't really need that. Beyond the timer and remote, the two are the same and boast some impressive features. Additionally, in this not-quite-big-enough space I don't know if 1kw will work, but with the Solis Tek I can run 600w bulbs or even turn my 1kw bulb down to 600w.

Last order was with www.horticulturesource.com. They have a huge selection and usually the lowest price I can find on everything, except for duct mufflers or PL-L fixtures which I get at www.htgsupply.com.

Anyway from horticulturesource I got my 8x24 Phresh filter (this is the biggest one you can have UPS or FedEx'd, anything larger requires LTL shipping - though I will say their price is still competitive for the larger filters with shipping). I also got pH calibration and electrode cleaning solution - my EcoTstr 2 pH and EC meters are kinda old and haven't been used in a year, but I'm hoping they'll still work. For nutes I've always gone with Botanicare (I just grow in soil, Fox Farms Ocean Forrest or Sunshine Advanced Mix #4) - I use their PureBlend Pro Grow and Soil Bloom, Silica Blast, Cal-Mag, Liquid Karma, and this time I'll be trying their Strapped too. Round the order out with some Rootech cloning Gel and Root Riot Plugs (I get 98%+ success with this in a standard 10"x20" tray and dome), and lastly a plain socket for some vertical love. :)

I'll put together a price list at the end, but I'm a bit over $1200 into it right now. Still need to get drywall and paint.

I've been thinking a lot about how I'm going to do the ceiling and soffit around the vents with respect to soundproofing, and how to hide the double wall. I'll admit this isn't easy stuff for me to figure out, it's often not obvious to me.

Anyway, last I'll just throw in a pic of the beast that will be ripping down my 2x4's, nice fat Milwaukee miter saw on an extremely handy Rigid portable stand.

tthis is awesome man. im paying close attention

taking a seat here too. love stealth grows.

Thanks folks, I hope to show you something special with the door.

We're also trying to pick genetics. Thinking of something from Alien - he had some Sour Pebbles up for auction on another site but they were too spendy for me right now, so I'm thinking Lemon Alien Dog.

Was also considering maybe Hazeman, like Double White Cheese. Or ******'s Killing Fields maybe, but I read conflicting reports on the potency.

I'd like something that's fire, obviously. Stanky would be good. And of course it should yield like mad and finish in 8 weeks right? But seriously I'd trade some flowering time for big yields on a nice heady reeking strain - but potency has got to be there. Any suggestions?

^ see this is something I hate (the *******), it's like every site is so territorial about breeders it's hard to get an accurate picture. I never know if it's just the site shilling for it's preferred breeders (and knocking the competition unfairly) or what.

I've run enough strains that have been disappointing, and haven't yet really found a great gem (to be fair, I'm a newb).

They have bad history budderfly. Any other breeder is just fine. Great stealth room. You going to run seeds every run? Where you going to put veg room?

Cloning, veg & moms will all be in the same 4x6 room with flowering.

I prefer to use PL-L's and can get a lot veg in a small space; don't use a lot of room for moms either, I prefer to just take the clones I need right before or first week of 12/12 (they root great when stretch starts).

I'll just build some shelves on 1x2 frames wherever works and use panda to seal it up, throw a pc fan in to move air.

There's a few layout ideas in my head:

  • a 2x6 horizontal scrog along the back side

  • a close to 4x4 vertical scrog on custom built lazy-susan type base so I can turn it and access each plant from one spot

  • maybe a tiered stadium and the veg could even go under the shelves of the stadium, and I also

  • Or maybe just split the room down the middle and do two separate 600w rooms with no real separate veg - just a little cab for cloning and maybe a shelf for like a week of veg after potting the clones.
I'm just going to focus on building the room for now and let the interior shape up later. I've decided to actually make the walls with a layer of 1/2" OSB first with double drywall on top of that (with just regular construction adhesive between the OSB and first layer of drywall). I want to do this so that I can screw shelving etc in anywhere.

Looking good. I'm actually in the process of doing something similar. I'm building a false wall with a hidden door to a secret room.

I'm paying close attention to how you are doing your door and such.

Beautifull work... peg board/tools/shelving/magnetic latching/ is the bomb for stealth... Unfortunately they are not warrant proof.. LEO has seen everything. I see you have a lot of blood sweat and tears in your project. If I didnt build my own you could build mine anyday. You r good to go stealth for the avg joe... Youve done a great job though/cant wait to see the fruits of your labor... props....:tiphat:

I've been following along, it's looking very nice. Something that you might want to consider at this point is a floor drain or a drain point that you can tie some elevated equipment into. For me, it makes all the difference in the world if you are running anything wet - a reservoir, blumats, hydro, etc. - basically 90% of the available techniques!

Your hybrid LED/PL-L is the shit!

I want a drain, you are right. There a pipe running under the floor - you can see some PVC on the existing wall leading to it. I don't know what it would take to put in a floor drain.. Hooking up a little faucet in the room by tapping off the bathroom was another idea I had - it would be convenient.

Glad you liked my fixture! As far as drains go, there are lots of options. For that size area, you could damn near get a shower pan that would cover the whole thing. Regular floor drains would necessitate a waterproof floor, but for a standard floor they make those air-break drains for food service - they look kind of like a miniature swamp sink that recesses into the floor and you can just hose drain lines over to it. I am setting up my new spot with a long metal drain pan for the plants to sit on, and it's elevated enough to have a sink-type drain stubbed up from the floor on one end. For a fresh water supply, I got one of those in-wall boxes for an ice-maker supply line that comes with a 1/4 turn valve.

I've long thought adding red spectrum with LED's to PL-L's would be a winner. You executed the idea awesomely. I love using PL'L's for veg, I've ordered a bundle of 55w kits from ahsupply.com.

My idea for the floor was simply to cover the slab it in thick PVC shower pan liner going 6"-12" up the wall all around.

When I figure out what exactly I'm doing for flowering space on the inside I may built shelves with gutters to drain. If I do a horizontal scrog though I'll probably just use catch trays and empty by hand since it'll only be a handful of plants.

I might be able to tap a drain into the existing PVC line easier then through the floor - I'll look at how low I can get it and maybe I can keep the plants higher.

Is your in-wall box supplied with like a tap line, the one for a fridge is pretty small diameter - I'm wondering if you get good flow? I figured I'd have to cut the copper and solder in a Y and just use like an outdoor type spigot with a hose off it. Cold only would be fine even.

You'll love those lights, theyre a great deal.

Rocked em for a couple years already, I've had as much as 550w worth of them vegging. ;)

Great coverage in minimal height. Easy to configure in almost any layout. I had no problems going straight from PL-L's to under 1kw to flower.

The ahsupply lights are a great deal, but htgsupply also carries some now - both a 2x55w for $70 and a 4x55w for $135, they come with bulbs and are the same size as an equivalent array of reflectors from ahsupply. I don't have one yet but I'm thinking about getting one as I may order a duct muffler from them too.
