Broad Mites?

i only want 3 or 4 elite strains in my mother room. no growers let out their elite strains so i get stuck with PO. we all know their genetics are awesome, but few will get to keep them...

they do have the mosaic virus in a few strains. it is a completely different look than any broad mite damage. it looks like the chlorophyll is blistering and causing it to mutate. the leaves curve but are flat and random leaves do it. you are right, it is not detrimental to the plant, but in my eyes an infected strain is trash. i had root aphids (guess where i got those....) when i had the virus the first time and they spread the virus through out the room. i trashed it all and sterilized. the second time i had the virus i had the PO clones quarantined and isolated from each other so i kept it contained and it never spread.

i know many people never defeat them, but i am determined to. i will buy some ogbiowar and start with that. how much is needed to make how much spray?

Dollars to donuts, it's not TMV, but rather a pervasive broad/cyclamen mite infestation, producing symptoms that some mistake for the elusive "TMV".

yep. i'm not aware of anyone who has ever produced a positive tmv assay test. i know i've taken a few myself.

BM's not TMV

BM's not TMV

I was 100% positive I had TMV after never seeing a single bug for years (one of the very first to be infected by P.O.) after destroying my faith and trying everything under the sun on a lark I was in a grow store that had small vials of forbid for 20$ so I bought one and thought to myself I have tried everything else. And I swore I would never use these serious chems. And I only used "Half strength" low and behold it could not have been anything else but BM's and I learned a valuable lesson. When I saw the plants slowly recover day by day. Now I believe I have found a serious and "safe" management program as all BM programs are management programs. If anyone tells you differently they are mistaken. Heat to sterilize and sanitize and kill existing bugs and eggs (all kinds plus Vectors) and OGBIOWAR to kill the bugs or possibly, IMHO keep them from wanting to live on your plants for long term management kind of like a trans laminar would do but you need to have a spray maintenance program the same way you would with Judo/forbid or Avid only you will need to do it a lot more often and good coverage is essential (I hang plants upside down in a special holder for mothers when spraying) In hydro I grow smaller plants that are easily sprayed on undersides with wand with OGBIOWAR to insure long term protection. And there cannot be ANY resistance to microscopic fungus so it may be a perfect program. It is known as the "Hippy Bro Science" BM management program LOL ... Why anyone would go back to P.O. is a complete mystery. I Have created some of the best crosses that are available from reputable seed company's Mr.Nice, Serious, Cali Conn, Ect,ect,

people keep saying that the tmv doesn't affect cannabis, but sc labs has the results to prove it has.

and i know what i had wasn't broad mites. these broad mites are stunting my growth and show evidence of being there. the virus never stopped the plants from growing and i still had big healthy girls. they just didn't look right with the deformed leaves. also only half of a leaf finger gets deformed and the other side grows fine. BM's are not that picky that they would only attack half a leaf. there is no way my plants could have looked as good as they did for as long as they did if it were mites. i can go through this whole thread and find all the pics of BM damage people have posted, but none will match what i described.

and yes, i did sit there for hours with my digital microscope scanning for eggs. i found none. and now that i really do have BM's i can say the problems act completely different.

anyone else notice a very good sign for spotting duds are the super weak branches that snap off with ease.... Your plants can looks super healthy and seem perfect... like everything is going to be great...then when you flower...you'll slowly notice branches will break off the plant without even being touched..

Never got any duds. My last harvest was my biggest yield to date. It was also hands down the frosty I have grown to date. Duds must be for chemicals.:)

It takes at least a year of fighting these guys to truly understand what they do.... if you've only dealt with them a couple of rounds...you cant understand the dud theory in its full context...

Those of us with a couple of years under our belts dealing with these guys have seen the morphing of genetics into something that was a shell of its true former self aka duds...

I suppose you are correct. I only dealt with them for 2 1/2 months. Now they are gone.

I don't see how you can have the same insect problem for years. Especially when you feel OK at throwing every chemical in the world at them. Seems very strange to me.

I've been trying to tell you that aspirin mitigates the dud problem to a great extent. Before I knew what it was I had (thinking TMV) , I treated my plants ONLY with aspirin, without killing a single mite. Some of them came out first rate, namely Critical+. My AK47s did dud out on me though, but that's without treating for mites. If you keep aspirin in your rez 100% of the time, you will see the difference. The difference is most notable if you start from seeds. The seedlings will start to sag right @ the two week mark. I immediately hit them with aspirin drench, and overnight they perk right up and pray, and they go through their entire life cycle looking good. Some duds, but some not showing any ill effects. Without the aspirin, the seedlings will die. I have done this umpteen times with the same results, so that's proof enough for me. Try a simple side by side with seedlings in an environment known to have BMs. At two weeks, you will see them begin to sag with some brown spotting on the bottom leaves. Treat half with aspirin only, and the other half without. The aspirin seedlings will thrive, while the untreated seedlings will die. Here's some pix from years ago of Critical+ treated only with aspirin. They smelled, tasted, and smoked great.

C+ @ 4 weeks, aspirin only. Without the aspirin, they would have died as seedlings:

Sweet grow Retrow. I'm not even using aspirin at this point cause my SSH, Critical 47, Sour OG, Cali Conn mystery mix (outdoor) and a Master kush x sour diesal (my own cross) look terrific with just Heat treatments and OGB...maybe I should give them some as aspirin too. I think I'll risk it this time with the outdoor and if it goes downhill I'll know why and feed the next hydro session with aspirin. This will be a good test as my few small outdoor are tester strains anyways. That I keep cuts from for future breeding.Nice looking plants.

I haven't had a problem with these guys for a couple of years now...Ive posted many pics of so many different genetics and not one problem....

I was simply pointing out a sign for people to look out for when it comes to DuDs... I should have been more clear...

OG Kush Clone only will show this weak Branch symptom from BM damage more than any other strain I have ever seen...

At my test location where I buy P.O clones just for testing new products on BM's...Ive found a new combo that has made it impossible for me to find a single egg on what were infested plants

The Geraniol in Essentria IC3 will clear the house of all mites...and then just 2 treatments of Kontos...that was it

I haven't had duds for years either... I tossed all my genetics that had BM's and just started over from seed stock... Treating seeds is the easy way to prevent problems from any pest..

Ive posted some really good information on different methods of activating SAR pathways in the Botany section ... A lot of it actually is very helpful and the homie Spurr has grinded with me on this topic like nobody else Ive seen on the boards...

Essentria IC3 Insecticide is a blessing in disguise and you can spray it with your shorts and t-shirt on ... This stuff is the shit

This stuff looks promising for hosing down the whole grow area. I may try it out. Thanks.

ok i keep hearing all this aspirin talk. what does it actually do to the plant and what exactly is it combating?

This has been answered a dozen times, but:
Salicylic acid boosts the plants natural immune system. In fact that is the plant's natural immune system. You can jump start the immune response by giving aspirin or willow water. This works to fight any infection/infestation.
Cannot hurt the plants, can only help.
Google "willow water" , and "aspirin for plants" and read about it.
It works on any kind of plant, and has been known for hundreds of years. It's what your grandmother used on her house plants on the windowsill when they got sickly.
It's an old trick that has stood the test of time and proven it's merit scientifically.
And it definitely works against BM damage.
Doesn't kill them, but renders their toxins innocuous to a large extent.

thanks for the answer Retro. i figured it had been asked already, but i am still reading and it's hard to find little bits of info in 139 pages. i'm working on reading it all though.

Just freaked myself out BIGTIME by scoping some leaves.

Saw no eggs or anything, but i saw a large spec of something so i focused in on it... I saw a freaky spider looking thing staring back at me.

At first i was like "WTF!"

But then I remembered those mini spider looking things are the predator mites I dumped on them.

LMAO now, but I jumped outta my chair and threw down the leaf at first !

Retro's advice with the aspirin appears to make a marked difference in the recovery time of my treated plants.

Plants not treated with aspirin (but with same miticides) did not recover as fast.

Try it yourself.

Break a Bayer 325 mg in half with the side of a spoon, crush both halves with the bottom of the spoon, put it in a glass of warm water to dissolve - and dump in your res.

How much asprin would you need for a 100 sq ft area fed through a siphon hose into sprayers? Haha! Or a better question would be wuts the asprin to water mixing ratio? Like how much per gallon?
