I dont think all plants of New Caledonia have 20% thc. most plants I got were mild in potency. there are some exceptions though. a lot of them shorter flowering ones remind me mexicans. dubi was talking about mexican hashplant.. like this one:

smelled great! fruity lemony.

crossed with mextiza, it can be good weed, better than most "mexicans" available today. and very uppity stimulating. I recommend it for your stimulating effect breeding.

Nice to know about these Caledonians. I always make selections to get the preferred specimens, let's see what I get. I've seen your pictures and they look very good.

Mextiza is one of the most appreciated cuts I use for crosses, and I usually cross her with all the sativas I grow. I know this strain very well and I know the downsides of doing that systematically, specially while planning on long term breeding, but what I get out of this cut is magic. I've never seen anything so extreme, and its magic effect when crossed with long flowering sativas, but selection and continuous outcrossing are mandatory.

Let me know if you grow this cross before I make it, it looks very well, but it will take me some months to do. Now I'm busy with the Taskentis.

I've used this sunny day to make some macro pics with an old compact camera. These are Jack Herer, TAM and Thai Angola buds.

This one is the Jack. Big flowers, big trichomes all around. Bud looks obviously like the hybrid it comes from, but this strain has been developed using mostly sativa genetics. Effect is very strong but mixed, after a head high there is a comedown. Still one of my favorite strains: fast, strong, productive (for a sativa leaning hybrid), tasty and vital. I've just made S1 from this one.

This other one under this text is the Thai Angola. She is completely different. Flowers are minuscule, trichomes are very very little and they are all over the flowers, but not in the leaves, just some in the tiniest ones. It is, no doubt, the purest Sativa I keep always in my garden. I even think it could be the real deal, made just with F1-ing unmixed genetics. Its characteristics are the ones I'd expect over a cross made with pure sativa plants grown and selected for generations without mixing with any hashplant or any other indica.

And this one is my favourite. TAM. This one is a selected specimen I've kept for years. The cross of the Thai Angola with the Mextiza has brought a plant that carries the amount of resin of the Oaxaca '79 and at the same time an effect that is much better than Mextiza's but also much stronger than the delicate special Thai Angola effect.

Trichomes are mixed in size, somewhere between JH and Thai Angola. But the amount of resin all around the leaves is spectacular. The second pic is a zoom over the first.

So, that's it. The goal of all this work is to get plants with the biggest amount of resin, easy to grow, tasty, but also that have an effect with no comedown. And the trick for that, as always, is to cross and select.

well I have different opinion on mextiza as far as the effect goes, but I will not present it here, it is you thread, I respect your opinion. I crossed oaxacan79/mextiza males to some haze cuts, like titans haze, posi haze phenos or incense haze/sweet skunk, and it was good. so I agree that oaxacan79 genetics is good parent for longer flowering sativas and its terps are top top

About Mextiza... I think I understand you. I got bored of her years ago and I haven't flowered her for anything else than making seeds, or the occasional mother plant I flower once a year to keep the memory alive. Taste is special, maturation time is unbeatable for a sativa, but the effect isn't as inspiring as it was years ago, when I discovered it and was my inspiration for a long time.

But I like a lot Mextiza for a breeding tool, I haven't found anything better ever.

Every cross I make with her and some extremer sativa I get something better, I believe you agree on that since you have been doing something similar for a while, if I'm correct. So I suppose that each one of us is crossing and selecting guided by our own taste.

I am an extremely seasoned smoker, it isn't rare that I smoke 5-10 grams of weed most of days. It means, appart that I have a lot of memory loss, that many plants I smoke in the fine special landrace-ish sativa extreme don't have much effect on me. Even when I charge such an enormous load in a Volcano, for example, that it would be impossible to smoke in a joint, effects I get are fun but not strong enough.

It is that special combo between Mextiza and other sativas that does the trick for me, and it has worked for several years. I know Oaxaca '79 based strains have a very narrow gene pool that means that outcrosses are mandatory and you have to be careful not to put too much of it on any cross. But still, I'm crossing it and enjoying quite a lot.

Enjoy whatever does the trick for you. After the so many years of smoke I wear, there is nothing that can get me high in a stimulating way at night once I've been heavily cannabis-stimulated since first hour in the morning. That's the moment I swap TAM for Taskenti.

A friend sent me some pictures of the TAM cut grown in a greenhouse at a very wet Atlantic weather at 42ºN. It made it very well till the second half of October, and it wasn't fertilized until the last week, but still looks good.

I've been watching a looot of variation between the TAM and Black Domina hybrids. Some of them look like hashplants while others look like sativa-leaning hybrids. There are a lot of selection possibilities in case I want to keep testing this cross. Some look like great producers.

I love the ultra-flash-flowering genetics from the Mextiza. These TAM from seed have it expressed and after just a week under 12h of light, I've already figured out the males.

Since I plan to use them as breeding material, the most of them I use the better. So I've made a quick selection and I just discarded one whose phyllotaxis didn't match the model. I've found that phyllotaxis is the most important and easy to spot morphological characteristics and one of the first symptoms of a gene pool depression.

These in the pics are the other males, looking healthy and energetic, slender, thin and flexible. After rubbing the stems they smell like spring and summer, fresh, weedy and floral like sativas tend to do. Indicas and hybrids have usually harsher bouquets.

I've already harvested a couple of plants seeded with the feminized JH pollen. I've been hand picking some of the seeds in the buds and I bet there will be a hundred or more seeds in any of the plants, so that's been a success.

I will wait for the plants to completely dry before harvesting all the seeds, but it looks promising. I had never taken the Black Domina up to 9 weeks flowering... but it looks and smells gorgeous.

I also pollinated une Thai Angola, since I got a nice result last time with these plants. The taste was poorer than Jack's, but the production was good and the effect was also nice.

This one is the Jack Herer. There will be a lot of S1 seeds that I believe will be more homogeneous than it would if it was a F1. I've crossed this JH with a lot of things, and for some reason this plant tend to produce very similar offspring. I've never seen any JH reversal, so these seeds are for sure interesting.

This is the Black Domina. This cross between a BD and a Jack Herer is sold by some "seed banks" under the very unoriginal name of Black Jack and produces a strong and productive hybrid in the 90's Dutch style that I really want to try without spending 10€ per seed. Anyway, the polyhybrid nature of the Black Domina guarantees that there will be diversity in the offspring.

And this is the result of five minutes of seed picking: a couple dozens of mature and nice seeds.

Next step in the following days, I'll pollinate the Thai Angola with the TAM males. And also freeze some of it.

This is the Thai Angola Mextiza I used for seeds, at 9 weeks. It looks like I didn't get many seeds, but the ones I've been picking are perfectly dark and mature. Let's see how many are there after drying.

As usual, this plant gets very tall and it is not very productive, but the room smells nicely like medicine now. I will have to develop some method to make its cultivation more efficient, like growing many of them at the same time and spending time tying all the branches.

By the way, I've got the first pollen from the male TAMs, so I'll pollinate the Thai Angola in the coming days, as soon as I have a mix of pollen made from the five different males.

To me it seems the only varieties that don't have some level of sedation are generally weaker (low THC) varieties. Do others experience the same? Has anybody had super strong herb with no sedation/comedown? I feel once a certain THC threshold is reached it's inevitable. Curious of others thoughts.

I feel this too even with things like ethiopian etc. I eventually get a bit sedated, more like just plain tired like the end of a normal night. Compared to I can keep my self awake at all, like Dutch hybrids.

By the way, some posts ago I said that I had bought some seeds, like Nueva Caledonia, Malawi and some Malawi hybrids like Golden Tiger and Zamaldelica. These weeds have been very well received by the people and got a lot of nice reviews.

My idea is to keep going in the project of seeking for the best sativa effects, specially shortening the flowering time and increasing the flavor and the power with the outstanding Mextiza genetics.

But I have something to say. I've grown quite a lot of landraces, and I have to say that African and American landrace Sativas are very special and very characteristic, very distinct. But also very slow, weak and difficult to grow indoors.

What I mean is that for what I know, it is impossible that a strain that has a consistent +20% THC content could be a landrace, or a strain made mixing pure sativa landraces. That's just impossible. Also, the growing pattern of a strain that has enormous calyxes and seeds, and show enormous amounts of resin all around the buds and the leaves doesn't match with what a landrace should be.

I am pretty sure that Mextiza, the strain that got me starting to worry about conservation of special weeds and effects, is NOT a pure sativa, nor a landrace. Nor its original source, the Oaxaca '79. That's why it is so much better than any landrace. It is quite probable that some American strain was hybridized decades ago to widen the genetic pool, and after that there were decades of selection that ended in a strain with the best features of Mexican original weed, but much faster, tastier and stronger.

I believe that Malawi suffered the same process of hybridisation, not only for its raw powerful effect, but for many other morfological features. I bet the original strains from there are similar to these weird incredible and very authentic african strains like Ghana, Ethiopia, or some other American ones. These ACE Malawi plants stand out for being totally different.

You can check the ACE catalog, there are some plants that stand for being authentic landraces, while many don't. Check for the plants with less than 10% THC, these could be the original ones.

For example, the Nueva Caledonia strain supposedly can show more than 20% THC. I bet it is not a pure sativa, but I also bet that it will be much better, much tastier and much more like the kind of weed I look for.

That's why I chose these strains. They have already been hybridised in their original lands, and worked there for their adaptability and effects, having decades of selection over their origin. These weeds are the ones I like. Not the landraces with some 5% THC, bland taste, slow and low producer, but the transformed and worked ones to a point that everybody will get high and happy to grow them, while keeping an uplifting sativa effect.

I feel you about having a tolerance and trying to keep up with smoking ethiopian all day. I’ll have a 1gram to myself and feel like a want more the next hour or so. I feel up the first time or two then don’t really feel it afterwards. I always have to remind myself that it’s more of like having coffee on top of coffee.
At some point it’s not doing to same. I feel like to get a good effect from that but strongly I was considering edibles (mct oil only,homemade) for daytime use. I do like the effect to go, but I can’t keep smoking it all day while at a job and it gets annoying to see how family when I have to step outside way more often. And my gf who smokes dabs for the most part doesn’t like even the punching my landrace stuff because she doesn’t feel high at all from it. Personally I’ve kept my tolerance down by just doing landraces so I appreciate the special effects but I can barely keep enough for myself in my small 2x2 with 14wk weaker strain, especially if I’m trying to cure them properly.

Forgive me because I always have ideas popping off in my head (adhd) but I see your doing black domina work for making a strong hybrid with your sativas. My self personally I have a collection of black domina, sensi star, a bunch of older Bodhi work with the 88g13hp and have been looking at crossing them to the sativas I have myself and hopefully finding clear headed more up phenos with a punch.

I thought about finding a indica that isn’t related to any of the Dutch stuff so I settled with the China yunnan. But after listening to the breeders syndicate podcast with angus from the real seed co. He blows up the China yunna because riot was so interested in it and calling it out for having skunk in it. Something I was trying to avoid. Currently at week 4 1/2 of a pollenation run of China and it’s my sativas. So not great lol

I seen the New Caledonia being most likely a hybrid. But what do you think of there honduras? All mine are always very sleepy after a while and going through a 5 females or so I always get tired after them. More so then most. I see it’s a higher testing percentage as well. Compared to the Ethiopian, nepal, I’ve ran.

I’m going to probably take a look at other afghan landraces afterwards after being recommended them and told there not all as muddy and foggy feeling as the ones used by the Dutch.

Several days ago I pollinated a Thai Angola cut with a mix of pollen from several Thai Angola x Mextiza males. The pollination looks successful and there are quite a lot of brown pistils. I'll show some pics when I can.

I've also been collecting the female seeds that resulted from the pollination with reversed Jack Herer pollen I made a couple months ago.

I've got about
- 100 seeds of Black Domina x Jack Herer.
- 50 seeds of TAM x Jack Herer.
- A couple dozens of JH x JH (S1)
- A lot of Thai Angola x JH, I didn't collect these yet, I still have a lot I made last year.

There aren't many, specially from the S1, but they'll be enough to dive into these appetizing crosses. I will wait some months before growing them, but I am starting with TAM x JH for sure. Damn, I really wanted to have this cross done, and since it is feminised it is even better, because I got to select both parentals.
