ok, the shuttle is ready for launch! Commencing countdown... 10... 9.... 8...

Anyway... Plants loaded up and drip lines connected...

Plants tied up and reflectix inserted...

Word to the wise... Don't build a system like this, and insert plants that have already been flowering for 2 weeks... BAD BAD BAD idea... lol I snapped and broke so many branches... but w/e, what doesn't kill em makes em stronger, right? The bottom 2 rows are plants fresh out of veg, the top 2 rows have already been going about 2-2.5 weeks...

looks like i need to straighten those lamps out... I must have bumped them around a little too much rearranging them ;)

Thanks guys! ya know, I'm looking at these pics... I didn't cut out the reflectix from those holes. I should probably pull it out and unfold it... The stems will just come out the cuts, you guys don't need to see the pots and drippers, right? lol... I made sure the drip lines were secure, and each pot has at least 2, so I'm not too worried about seeing the inside of the bins...

I omitted the strain names... I'm running Chem4D, Chem99, Strawberry Diesel99, Honey White bx2, Ultimate Strawberry Diesel, Guerilla Gold x Manitoba Madness (had to test them for the upcoming outdoor season), CLS C99x, Sour Bubble, and Chocolate Rain.

The room is up an running for it's first night after 24hs of darkness... I had to reset the flowering plants' internal clock.. The radiator is cooling the room perfectly! The temp stays between 70-75F. :) The drippers need a little work. I have to make sure there aren't any kinks in the hose, b/c the flow is uneven... No matter, I just pulled out the hose and watered the plants that didn't get enough water by hand... I'll dial the water in later. It's been a long long day getting the cooling system hooked up and running other errands... Still gotta straighten out those lamps a little more!

Alright scrogerman, you asked for it, so here it is.. a detailed schematic of the cooling system.

The finned area of the radiator is 20" x 20". The inlet and outlet are each 1". For the return line, I used 1" hose, and a 1" bucket fitting connected to the reservoir. The feed from the pump is 1/2", so I had to get a 1/2" to 3/4" reducer, 1' of 3/4" hose, a 3/4" to 1" reducer and a little hose to connect to the radiator. So, cold water in, warm water out.

The radiator is sitting inside of the widest rubbermaid I could find, because I wanted to mount it right under the lights. You need to mount the radiator inside of a plastic box of some sort, because condensation will form, and you need to collect it so it doesn't go everywhere. I would have mounted it up above, because heat rises and cold air falls... but like i had posted before, once this thing fills with water it gets heavy, so it needs to be well supported.

As you can see in the pics, I purchased a smaller rubbermaid container, and cut a 4" circular hole in the middle of it, to set my 170cfm fan in. The fan is plugged into a temperature controller. When the temperature hits 75F, the fan kicks on, and blasts cold air past the lamps, and cools everything down to 70F. The probe is hanging in the middle of the canopy.

You don't have to put the exchanger in your room, but it is most efficient that way, because it can absorb the heat. You can put ducting on the fan, to pipe in cold air... However now you're playing with your intake. I wanted to exchange my air constantly. My scrubber runs full blast 24/7/365. I have my intake on a speed controller, because it's the same size fan as the exhaust. I have it dialed down so there is just enough negative pressure to pull the sides in.

So yes, no cutting holes in walls to make this work... Just running hoses, and ensuring you have a leak tight seal on everything. I used thread tape on my fittings, and hose clamps at every connection. I can't risk a flood where I'm growing... ha ha...

Hey bobble!

Really like your setup and espacielly the cooling system! If I copy it, I might have to use that freezer-combo when/if it gets to hot during spring and summer!

I'm doin' a similar "coliseum" with coco and drip, but with shelfs instead!(Will put up a thread in time!) I'm a little concerned about the coco drying out too fast cuz of the heat from the lamps, have you measured you coco-temp? Can you fold up your refletix to cover the pots in case it's hotter then desired?

Peace from Croatia

Bobblehead, great to see that you finally got it up and running. So many good ideas, and a few great ones. The cooling system was a stroke of genius, simple, effective. Great way to bring other technology into a grow system. Have you ever thought of building a better mousetrap.LOL Nice strains that you are running this time. I was wondering how you were going to get the pots in, didn't realize the reflectix was removable. Good luck, now take a break and get away from the snow.

I'm not worried about the temperature inside of the gro-pots... I'm more concerned about the environmental temperatures... As long as the room stays between 70-80, the root zone will be fine. As soon as I get the water lines fixed, the reflectix will cover up the pots. For now though, I need to get in there and see what's going on. Using a freezer as an inline chiller for the cooling system should work well... I plan on adding salt to my water when I do this, to make sure it doesn't freeze!

if I had a mouse infestation, please believe I'd be all over the mouse trap... or just move... lol

Thanks for the kind words bro. I'm having issues with property managers getting back to me. You would think that in this economy, a property manager would be kissing my ass trying to move me into their house... Not the case. I really need a bigger location. I'm about to give up though, and just take a vaca like I've been wanting to. The cold winter air will keep my grow cool for now, but eventually I need a basement... and more space! Did I mention I need more space?

Yo Bobble thanks for the detailed chiller thingy! :d

Yeah bro, I know you can use my heat exchanger idea where you are... ha ha... Heating the apt with grow lights in the winter... ;) I've been kinda cold the past 2 weeks doing the remodel! lol

System is so rad! I'm think about switching to something like this, low plant number FTW. Can't wait to see some buds.
