Blumat auto watering

I seem to be getting some light run-aways at the 7th week of bud, not sure if it's the heat/sporadic thirst or nute build up in the drippers.

I mark where the pointer lines up with the adjustment cap with a white-out pen. Then, every couple of weeks or so, open the adjustment up and run the hose back and forth a bit while rolling it between my fingers. This will break up any sediment or crap that has been building up and the white spot allows you to come right back to your adjustment point.

Great advice, thank you Rives :tiphat:...I'll try it in the morning.

Question: I'm putting in 6-7 comes in a 1.5'x6' long bed(1.5'deep). Should I be shortening my 3mm line from 8cm to 6cm? I've read how it helps in smaller pots. Not sure if this qualifies.

Shortening the lines gives you faster feedback and a reduced moisture cone. IMO, should work either way. In general you want the drip to be centralized. I use 6 in pots. Not much room. I try to insert the cone an inch away from the side, which means to hit center root ball I do indeed shorten dipper line length.

In general too short risks dry media on edges, too long risks run away. Find the balance...

Thanks Dr. D.! I'll be trimming down my cover crop down and skirting my girls so I can share some pics after installation. Right now I'm battling the stench of the local sewer because my drain for my bed does not have a P trap. P U

Drop an in-line P-trap in that line, or build one out of 90's and little pieces.

Glue (4) 90's together in a "U" shape and insert it into the drain line. The "U" will fill with water up to the pipe level and block the sewer gases.

*damn, I shouldn't have stopped to edit my reply!

Thanks Rives!

EZ told me a long time ago having a drain in the room with Blumats was cats ass.

I was hoping to feed 6 plants in 27L pots gravity fed with a 100L reservoir, do I need a pressure regulator? I am hoping to run them gravity fed is this a sound idea or not? I mean there is nothing I need to know before starting out? I am not likely to fail and need a pump am I and should I be feeding several distributor drippers on each carrot meaning one carrot per plant or should I go with 2 carrots per plant as previously suggested? Thanks very much for your help.

I would like to say thank you to EZ, Rives, and Sunnydog along with all the other helpful people on this thread. I have completed my Blumat set-up and feel very confidant because of this thread and community. This is a gravity fed, loop, system. 13 gal. upper res 55 gal. lower. 7 Blumats in a 6' long 18" wide(and deep) bed. This drains into the buildings main drain(bring on the runners). I'll leave you with a few pics.

I just got a new watts p60 regulator and it will at least hold the pressure at 15 psi, but during the night time it goes down to 12ish psi. I think that it has to do with how long the 8 mm line is run or maybe I need to get a bigger pressurized tank?

Hey everyone, my rez ran dry when I was out of town the other day. Now when I try to purge the lines of water it won't come all the way out of the purge. How do I go about resetting this thing up? Do I have to uninstall the whole thing and redo it?

Not a complete uninstall, but you need to resoak your carrots, refill your rez, and reset your dials.

You've got "vapor-lock" in the lines. Either suck on the purge line or use a shop vac until you "pull" all the air out and water flows freely.

Unless his pots completely dried out , why would he need to refill/adjust the carrots?. If the carrots haven't dried out inside, re-establishing the water supply should work just fine. I've been through it a few times. The pots are always close to saturated, so it does take awhile for them to dry out inside if the water supply is interrupted.

I agree with EZ

If you don't have a foot valve on your feed line, then a vapor lock is causing the problem...either manually suck the water back thru the system, or fill the line with water and bleed the air off.

If the soil is still damp, then the sensors should be fine,,,just fire the system and bleed each sections drippers of air...then watch for any run-aways. I put valves on my system to separate every 4 plants, that way I can purge/wash,feed any plants I choose...very helpful when part of a room is harvested, and part still up and growing.
