The Chumboldt was delicious, IMO - more tasty than Cheese, although it grows very similarly, but with less stretch. It had a slightly sweeter taste and smell when I grew it, with an almost toffee/treacle back-end, and a more indica high, obviously, but for once, I preferred that over the 'original'. I think it would make a great crossing partner, personally, but if it was with the blues, one would have to be selfed, as they're both female clones, and you'd still end up with 'just another smelly one', more than likely.

Yeah, and do we really need more generic smelly skunky-indica-hybrid cuttings doing the rounds? I really get sick of seeing yet more and more cheese crosses and seedlines, it's like we're stuck in the early 90s.

We need to get some fresh clones circulating. It's not like there aren't great cuts out there, I can think of lads and loads of cuts that are in circulation in the UK that are brilliant, but the commercial appeal of cheese and the kudos of having some of the stinky shit to impress your less well informed friends means people stick with it. I suppose the way it's so easy to get a good crop with it plays a big part in why it's still so widely grown but ffs, it's starting to make the uk look behind the times.

Yumboldt would be my choice as it's a super stinky afghan, probably very similar to the afghan used to make skunk in the first place.

Yo indif,, we're not picking straws cause you folks are lifting the standard  Cheese x Yumbolt,, wtf :canabis:

We researched this when growing the line,,, and there was some speculation on the exact origins of Yumbolt then. Tony said the line was donated to him in Dam by a Cali. grower.

Further investigation chatting with growers from Humbolt on OG suggested that Yumbolt is/was possibly a Cambodian variety worked in Humbolt County ,, seeds originally bought back from Vietnam c1970 ,, then line bred to grow/act/behave like an indica (short and fast) over many generations... like a contemporary Durban Poison. Perhaps someone introduce a Kush to it to help bring the height down, who knows ? we do see some Kush traits in the leaf... but the aspects aren't like other Afghans we've grown.

When grown alongside solid indica varieties like rock bud ,, then the sativa influence/heritage in Yumbolt tends to be really pronounced / more noticeable... from calyx to leaf tips. The dope also gave a really social-high,, communal,, and transcending. Wish we still had our Yumbolt clone (and the photos lost to OG),, it's a very special plant,, one of my all time favourites. Happy times :canabis:

Yumbolt is a real connoisseur dope plant,, low yielding ,,, but dope

Hope this helps
Peace Peace Peace

p.s. i's brethren recently got a fresh pack direct from Tony,, i n i already put my clone order in ,, and he hasn't even sown them out yet.. lol

Funny, story I head said it was a very old Afghani IBL from Humboldt. Whatever, it certainly improved the Cheese.

I've never even seen a real Yumboldt, but this was my first grow of the Chumboldt - it does look a lot like the blues and the smelly one. This one did 69 grams from a 16-inch tall plant...;)

Yeah, if I had to pick any clone to grow commercially, it would be the Yumboldt, produces buds just like cheese only chunkier and the yield is great, even a small plant produces a good yield and it's very easy to grow. I think mine yielded about 35g under a 250w hps with 7 other plants in a wardrobe. If all 8 plants had been Chumboldts, I can see 1gpw being pretty easy - 8 x 35 = 280g!

Yumbolt smelt like something died,, or a cabbage had been left under 400w on 12/12 for a week.. The only way to mask the smell was to burn lots of spliffs and forget about the smell :joint: Once that clone went the garden went back to smelling of hash again :canabis:

Anyhow,, let's get this thread back on track shall we... (there's a Yumbolt thread pon Saga subforum) :canabis:

...that 'Blues' stuff smells a mix of pear-drops and nail polish... the taste is the same if you really ram a joint full of the stuff,, the high was nice :joint:

That immense horrid stink is exactly why Yumboldt makes a good crossing companion to the Cheese - it brings out the stinky afghan part of cheese.

Blues has a wild berry sort of smell to me, reminds me of northern lights.

NL was quite bland, pretty boring high although there were said to be phenos that had a good high I never saw one. For yield, potency and resin it was top notch though and a piece of piss to grow, cash croppers choice was the NL back in the day in my neck of the woods. You had to grow the NL well in soil to get the wild berry out of it, done hydro pushed hard it was blander.

yeh man,,,i heard the old NL5 x NL2 was a propper berry type,,,,,,,do you think the blue clone exibits that juniper berry taste indifferent bro???

Dunno, not grown the blues myself, just going by buds others have grown. There is a Cheese cut that has a very definite wild berry smell and taste, a few people I know grow that and they don't have the Blues, and I'm not convinced that Cheese isn't the Blues, certainly there is some confusion there. I'd say the Blues can be berry tasting, but depends how ya grow it.

i grew the cheese clone for years while the local dealers sold blues at 1.1 for a 20bag.....i love my cheese and for a long time i was convinced it was the same clone,,,,,,but ive grown my cheese in all different ways trying to get that level of taste my local dealers showup with constantly,,,,it was driving me mad,,,,,then i got a coupple of different "blues clones"..:)

imo it seems like the Cheese is totaly missing any berry flavour,,,,Cheese trys to be berry but never quite makes it to sweet,,,its a musky 1,,,,,,,,

dry nugs of the blues look more afi/kushi [tight nuggets] smells are similar to the cheese but the blue has a fule & candy overtone,,,,,,,,,

i love the cheese but the blues offers more for me........

Until last year when I became aware of at least two more Cheese, there were always two Cheese cuts doing the rounds in the NW, one is the Exodus Cheese we all know so well, the other is more indica, chubbier nuggets, wild berry smell/taste, I much prefer that one to the Exodus.

This other Cheese that I call the Berry Cheese is very similar to the Blues, it could be the same cut, I'm not sure, it's not at all clear and some of my friends have tried to work it out, but it's not easy.

i think the cheese finds it hard to putout more than 5 fingers,,,,,,,,the blues seems to putout many fingers [real easy],,,,,,,,

LLP has the psycho and psychoberry ,,,hes also got a psycho x NL,,,,,,,,mad stuff musta been going on years back,,,same as it is now:)

The Psychosis is good weed, very very similar to Cheese in looks, smells and tastes imho. I have heard it speculated that it's a Cheese cross. It may well be.
