We are go on two new breeding projects.

Codename "Cosmodrome" : Spoetnik #1 x Deep Chunk. Should be frosty par excellence. I have very high hopes for this one.

Codename "Cosmopolitan" : GP12 x Deep Chunk. A tangled mess of genetics from all over the place. I have no idea how this will turn out. But that is half the fun!

Pollen has been lovingly applied....now we wait. Much love, respect and strength to the arm of the generous icmagger who made this possible!

Yeah...PP....I'm sure there's a few crosses been done.......but you don't see them on the boo. We need VG to tell us how much the high differs from pure BF....get his expert opinion.

Never tried powerplant, but a quick fat sativa would seem a good thing to cross other sats with?

well, :), i need to have a proper go on the BF again now that its been cured for a while but it's an odd one. it actually has quite a bodystone to it as well as sativa high.

powerplant has long been a fave of me and the misses. many people arent keen on it but to me it has a speedy, lively high that is great for socialising or mixing with a few drinks (as long as you dont overdo it on the PP or the drinks otherwise you will pull a whitey :D ) PP has quite a stoney tail to the high.

DP do a couple of powerplant crosses - i tried dolce vita but it didnt impress me.

i must say i wasnt expecting too much from the Power Black but i tried it the other day - just dry - and was very encouraged. up, soaring happy high that was like PP but with something a little extra - a bit more trippiness maybe. im going to have a good go on it tonite! - i would say it reminded me of congolese of similar...

cheers

V.

Trippy weed is good....good luck for tonight. I haven't pulled a whitey in about 10 years.....but I don't hit the bourbon nowadays like I did back then :) More of a port man nowadays....

Severian: Thanks man! Nice handle....I read those books many years ago. I liked them. Most fantasy nowadays seems to come in 1,000 page instalments; I prefer the old masters like Lovecraft and Howard who could spin a ripping yarn in less than 750,000 words.

Haven't posted a shot of Stumpy for a while.....here she is as of a couple minutes ago. Getting nice and bushy. The top stuff is well above the lights now, so it won't be too long before she gets her triumphant return to flower.

hehe I must confess to some mild jealousy as far as your pollen chucking exploits are concerned... I really cannot WAIT to start down that road :)

Stumpy's looking pretty awesome eh?... A very successful re-veg indeed :D

(and how about that gold in the wimmins teatray huh? ;) )

I'll be the first to admit that I've been lucky with what I've done so far.....although the Cali-o x MS and NL x MS crosses I'm growing out are (so far) looking very sativa-ish in expression and I've treated them harshly...not being used to the subtleties required growing that end of the cannabis spectrum, and the cold hasn't helped.

Both pollinated girls have shown some brown pistils already, so should get a few beans off each :)

Chuck some pollen about mate.....surprisingly exciting when you get ready to spark up the first test spliff of your very own unique cross. Plus for enthusiasts (obsessives) like us, just watching them grow out is a real buzz.

Very happy with Stumpy's reveg.....with any luck the second crop will be a bit more potent than the first (the first run being very impressive)....will pot her up to the 4Litre if room allows when she goes back into flower.

That skeleton is mad.....do you watch the BBC coverage or the Dutch? The BBC's resident "cool snowboard dude" Ed Lee (?) went down the track with a camera on his head.....his commentary consisted mainly of various orgasmic moans as he streaked down...I was rofl.

Guess young Amy will get herself a OBE or summat next time they hand out the gongs....good for her....the track she trains on at Bath Uni is like 140m long.....just pathetic really.
Getting totally cheesed off with the Curling.....5 hours a day on the Beeb.

Black Forrest f2:

Power Black:

picture.php

Had some power cuts recently, which have affected the veg cab, but luckily not the flower cab. Fingers crossed that nothing weird happens.

One very pregnant Spoetnik:

picture.php

Yield will be sweet FA, but that is now a minor concern, as it's all about the seeds. Still, I like the trichome coverage.

The flower cab in general is a bit of a disaster area now. Most of the sativa doms have suffered horribly due to a mix of cold, my overwatering, and possibly overfeeding. That's the way things go sometimes. A few things are fattening up now, although yields on most will be well below what I consider par for the course. But Spring isn't far away, and I remain eternally optimistic. Better than giving all my money to Mr Dealer Man hehehe

Fungus gnats.

Had them a while now. Quite a lot a short while back, but just a few now. Took various measures, including the installation of a little 3W UV lamp/electrocuter thing (no, I don't know the light spectrum, it just says UV - the UV supposedly attracts insects, and the cage zaps them).

But...I don't know how much damage they do? I chopped that Cali-O x MS a little while back, and the roots looked fine....white and plenty of them (I'd been worried about root rot, but no sign of it).

So they may have contributed to a greater or lesser degree...I dunno...shrug.

While I remember....got a couple of seedlings going in 50/50 mix of compost and this orchid bark stuff. They seem to be doing OK. Don't know if I'd want to use it on it's own....it seems a bit chunky.Maybe that's the point....it's just there for cation-exchange and to hold the plant up I guess if you use it like coco? Anyway, we shall see how it turns out.

hey blimey the seedlings look good!. i tell you the power black is a damn site better than many strains ive paid good money for!

fungus gnats - i dont think they do much damage except for tiny seedlings can suffer becuase the larvae can eat roots. ive had them this winter too - iomo mainly because the soil stays wetter. if you let it dry out a bit they tend to dwindle. whilst on that subject the BF seems very happy when kept pretty dry - dryer than normal.

good luck

V.

p.s. the spoetnik looks nice and frosty - will there be time for the seeds to mature? (i find they need minimum 4 weeks from pollenation)

Hey VG!

Both the seedlings had been a while without watering and I'd watered them earlier yesterday, and the BF seems to have liked the water much more than the Power Black, which promptly got a bit droopy....noted for future reference to keep 'em dry. It's now a game of chicken as to how long I dare veg them. They both seem to want to grow big from the size of the first leaves. And going straight from 1 to 5 blades is always a good sign.

I have a NL x MS in there I vegged for 24 days, and it looks like it wants to bang its head on the ceiling. NL influence, my arse, this one is pure sativa. Your guys/gals are at day 4 of veg now, so I have a little time to play with :)

I haven't watered anything in flower until they really dry out recently...but many things have still pretty much eaten their lower fans.....the damage was done a while back for many. But I think we are over the hump now....the MexiSat and C-O x MS are finally bulking up. The GP12s are all pretty hardy, and are doing OK.

I'm a little concerned with time on the Spoetnik too....the leaves already look like they are well into the flush...but I think that was the cold causing P def. We should be OK. I've trimmed the lower popcorn off (smoked very well, potency-wise) to try and get the plant to send all energy and nutrients to the seeds. I'll leave her going as long as I can. Day 6 since pollination today.

The GP12 is in a much better position leaf-wise (and two weeks less in flower), and should have no problem finishing the seeds on that one.

Sensi Mexican Sativa...day 46...finally starting to fatten up

picture.php

NL x Mexican Sativa....day 30....narrowest leaves in the cab and stretchy as hell.

picture.php

Cali-O x Mexican Sativa....day 46. Yet to fatten up.....this cross really hasn't liked the cold.

Finally for tonight.....Stumpy just kept on growing into the veg lights, so I up-potted her into the 4 Litre pot, filled in with the new compost/orchid bark soil mix, and threw her back into flower one month exactly after harvesting her. She is 14cm tall - let's see how much she stretches. The two main branches are no longer tied down. You can see the issues I've had with fan leaves on a couple of the sativa-doms in this photo.

Fungus gnats got you down?

Pest Strips and Diatomaceous Earth not working?

Well....just grow a really sticky strain and watch those pesky gnats die as they stick to your plants!

picture.php

The Spoetnik has collected about 8 so far...but don't worry about the gnats....plenty more where they came from ;)

14 days since pollination....14 to go. Just a few amber trichs so far. Fingers crossed....she's on day 74 of 12/12.

Black Forrest and Power Black are now in flower, after 9 days of veg. Water them once, and they never forgive you....

The first two seeds of the Black Cheese were no-shows, but third time is the charm, and number 3 has cracked and is under the soil.

looks like you'll get a reasonable amount of smokable bud off her too?.. whats the ratio normally like? ... did you go for a "full house" or a "select few seeds"?

looks nice anyway mate,
cheers

Hmmmm....pictures are deceptive.....I'll maybe get an eighth off her....the bud is rock hard....beyond sticky...lacquered is more accurate a description, she feels like a plastic flower.

I had a very limited amount of pollen (not that I'm complaining....manna from heaven is just that)....and I put 2/3rds on the Spoetnik, and the rest on a GP12.....but usually when I pollinate, I just use one or two male flowers, and that often gives me 25+ seeds. So I think I'll get a couple of dozen off the Spoetnik, maybe a few less off the GP12. So...."select few seeds", but with small plants, that's probably a safer bet anyway....easier for the plant to get them mature.

In any event, plenty to play with and share about, if there is any interest ;)

Will probably lose less bud off this one than usual, as I pollinated so late. Got another 3 Spoetniks (finished the pack of 5, one seed didn't crack) behind this one at various stages, all getting more veg time than the first.

All the sativa doms are chopped now.....I had a flare-up of a recurring medical issue, and given that they had no fans left, I said "fuckit" and chopped 'em.....got a good idea of the potential and nature of the high on each.....none of them awful high-wise....think they can all be stellar when grown in better conditions...i.e. not so effin cold, and a bit more care on my part on the watering schedule.

So....in flower we have the Spoetnik and GP12 carrying babies....the reveg GP12...plus another GP12 which I might cross with either of a NL and a MexSat, depending on sexes. Plus the BF and PB, another Spoetnik...and another GP12 I just put in tonight....which makes 10. Totally packed.

hey blimey the seedlings look good - the BF F2 looks very similar to the f1. i think the breeder of BF said that the vietnamese strain was very dominant in the cross so perhaps the f2's will still be mostly similar to the F1's.

and the Black Cheese and Power Black looked fairly similar too. the BF is fairly dominant in both crosses - seems like the viet jungle landrace was pretty strong genes.

havent had a proper go on the Black cheese yet but the Power Black is very nice and pretty strong. speedy and lively like the powerplant but with a real fuzzy euphoric buzz too.

9 days veg - slightly less than i did - i think it may be good to repot just after the stretch has finished - the roots should still be growing for a couple of weeks after that and it may boost the yield a bit too. how high is your cab??

V.

The cab is 28" height all in. One reason I'm always a bit shy about using 4 Litre pots is that they take up so much vertical space, especially as my lamp hangs a few inches below the ceiling. Don't know what negatives, if any, come from plants growing above the lamp.

I may be able to repot them up in a couple of weeks, once the Spoetnik, and possibly a GP12 get cut. Got a couple of 2 Litre pots kicking about. We shall see what the situation is like as the time approaches....it will probably be 3 - 4 weeks before they show sex, going by previous plants.

Guess the Viet landrace is very homozygous.....kind of like DC in the dominance aspect. Certainly looking forward to see how they turn out.

Got to admit to being green with envy at the thought of having two or three ounces of weed just sitting around waiting for me to get the time and inclination to have a puff! One day I'll have a HID and these constant dry spells will be a thing of the past lol

13 days plus drying time....and counting.....
