interesting observations mate

I'm always happier with the longer left stuff in terms of strength but often find the best flavours come out in the slightly earlier buds...

I've got a few coming out soon that I'm kinda forced to take a week earlier than I'd like (council replacing windows in mar/apr) I'm just hoping they make it to that "ripe enough" stage... we'll see... I'm not going to be too hard on myself about it, its a mostly PP run and the stuff I need to get in there so it'll be done by "window time" is much more varied/exotic

Interesting point on the flavours.....The sherbet sweet with cleaning agent taste was much more pronounced on the earlier buds....the later ones lost a lot of sweetness, and had more of a sweaty feet/curdled milk taste....I preferred the earlier taste...and definitely the earlier smells off the plant...it was really bad tramp with rotten food stench at the end.

Where are the terpenoids for flavour stored in the plant? In the trichome heads with the THC precursors? Maybe they degrade/change at the same rate as the colour of the heads??

Oh to be able to run a hundred plants! Mad scientist mode! Igor! Fetch my loupe!

I had a hermi from the original pack of Nirvana NL...guess more than one bean had that trait hidden away, just didn't express in the male I used for this cross.

The top cola isn't huge at the moment...but still probably 3 or 4 weeks yet. That Afghani x NL going hermi has thrown a bit of a spanner in the works. Guess I'm going to have to bin her....will wait a bit to see what it does...as long as I don't let any male flowers pop. Get as much smokeables as I can off her, even if it's only leaf.

Just been having a couple of smokes, chilling with the plants and thinking...

This whole perpetual thing is working out a lot harder than I expected. Every plant is a different strain, different age...different media for many. Makes keeping on top with watering and feeding a real nightmare....I take a lot of notes, but not to the level of what days I water and feed them. The cold hasn't helped.

Don't get me wrong, I love this hobby and it's a lot of fun, but the level of complexity has multiplied geometrically, it seems, with just the simple switch from one cab to two. Tricky judging when to pop new seeds. Don't want to have to kill anything just because I mucked up on scheduling....but don't want to suddenly have a month without anything finishing. Guess I'm just a born worrier....why I like brain-erasing-type weed lol.

hey blimey i know what you mean - even with my perpetual scrog i find it tough to know what to have waiting, specially when you dont know how many girls you will get from seed plants. i tend to have a 'reserve' or two growing from clone in case of gaps - it doesnt worry me to sling a plant out if i dont need it.

i like your definition of start af veg - when the first 3 finger leaf appears. i shall adopt that convention from here on in.

I know you're interested in the Mexican Sativa, VG....here's an old pic on my shitty phone camera....from Day 58 of flower, after 4 days of veg under the 200W, immediately followed by the GP12 from Day 54 of flower after 1 day veg under 4x20W:

The NL x CO cross has really cut down the flowering time of the MS...which I would estimate at about 12-13 weeks...I chopped my one early at 10 weeks.

Also the shade leaves are much shorter and more jagged. Potency seems much improved...the popcorn off the branches I've been smoking is already stronger than the finished product off the MS. A little more "foggy" in the head, but not much. Not much body to it - not the sort of weed for smoking near bedtime.

Slight smell of cedar(?) in the smoke...like the blocks of wood you put in clothes drawers.

Never revegged a plant before.....I think this will be my first go...just in case this pheno doesn't pop up in the other seeds I made...

Here's the Mexican Sativa I currently have at day 10 of flower (18 in veg). Sex as yet undetermined.

GP12 Day 57 with 500ml bottle for scale. About 50/50 clear/cloudy at the moment.

Been running a little side-by-side experiment re: exposed roots....results still inconclusive...and probably will remain so, as they are different strains (L= White Widow, R= Cali-O x Mexican Sativa). Both plants seem healthy enough.

Haven't got around to chopping the hermie yet. Will wait till the last minute to maximise smokeables. The last one I had took a long time before the male flowers popped.

Phillthy - Thanks man! My Jack Russel is so fat, I think she'd struggle to fit in it nowadays...but show her a foxhole and whoosh! ....like a cork in a bottle sometimes.

My cats know what it's for (taking them to the vet) and steer well clear of it lol

Jamie - the main cab does indeed have "sticky-back plastic" as an integral part of its construction...not to mention duct tape! Don't attempt anything without duct tape lol

Damn fungus gnats have moved in now that the temps have warmed up a bit. Grrrr.....

try putting some play sand (builders sand too salty) in the tops of the pots (about an inch) will suffocate the eggs. and yellow fly papers for the adults is a good cheap start.. (rotten little bastards)

The little ones in the veg cab? I got those from an electrical/light fixtures shop. Art supply shops sometimes do them too. Just clipped them on to two garden stakes held in place with wire.

Day 60 of 12/12...and the GP12 is on the flush. More cloudy than clear, and the very first ambers have arrived. Plant smells of cedar, lime, maggots and freshly-vacuumed carpet.

Took a tester nug yesterday.....thumbs up. Guess I got lucky with this cross. Got a lot more kick than the MS and a bit more body.

In other news....the hermi got chopped....and will probably be killing another couple soon, as got several plants that should be showing gender soon.

libby - thanks, man. More than likely it will be flowered in the same container. Depending on how space goes, I can repot a plant or two.

I was just thinking of moving the WW to a 4L if it's a girl...but let's see who is playing for which team....also got a few things in the veg cab.

I think it might be....certainly the trich coverage on the leaves seems greater, although she isn't as sticky. I think she'll finish a few days quicker.

Change of plan.....

I got worried that the longer I left the GP12, the harder a reveg would be.....so I chopped her at day 61....and after the scissors had completed their work....we are left with:

I gave her some mild veg nutes and put her back in the veg cab. I might run the lights up to 20/4 or 24/0 for a while to encourage her to reveg (usually run 18/6).

I got well stoned from the tester bud last night, so that may have influenced my decision (damn my lack of anything resembling self-control). The face goes numb, followed by the top and back of the head. Small explosion in the frontal lobe.

Unconscious vibrating/shaking may ensue. Heavy duty weed.
