Big Clones.....and air layers.....

Earlier in this thread I show a plant that I cut off the mother at ten days from the start of cloning. 41 days after I started cloning it was 3 feet wide and 3.5 feet tall. Pictures are posted so you can see for yourself.

I was looking in the mirror and I will be damned if I didnt see my nose grow right there. This is a flat out lie. The plant was only 3 feet tall and 30 inches wide.

9 days and i've got some pretty solid roots. there are plenty you can't see because of the plastic wrap and my shitty photography skills that have been there a couple days.

between being lazy and wanting to see what would happen i never wrapped any foil around the plugs. made keeping things wet a lot less of a pain in the ass and doesn't seem to have slowed anything down. i probably shoulda covered half so i could compare them ........ but i got high.

could the red plastic wrap filter the light and help the roots deal with it?:dunno::dunno:

the stems aren't as rigid as they were and the plant seems to happy.

likin' this air layering !!!!

When I started the thread....I felt the key was getting the limb ringed properly....

I still do.....

The threads in the past did this process haphazardly at best......

be anal.... succeed......

I love the idea of air layering to keep my plant count at a minimum. Going to definitely give this a try. I could use a second HD mom anyway

My first attempt failed miserably, so I selected another plant and I tried again like Ichabod Crane

Thats what I use for my normal cloning....

But I like the results that my friend crane gets with Dip N Grow....

I have both now..... at some point Im going to try to compare the two rooting hormones....

The advantage may go to dip n grow..... it has both common rooting hormones...

iba.... Naa..... clonex doesnt contain Naa....

Another successful air layer from a chem cross I could not get to root using the old fashioned techniques. This one is a solid two footer with many laterals. Happy New year everyone:D

LOL... crane you funny guy....

But let me add some perspective to clones this large.....

If air layering failed and you had to kill a big hunk of plant like this.... it would be a pretty big loss....

I have in fact left a rooted air layer in tact with the mother and flowered it out.....

and it didnt seem to be any different than the rest of the plant.....

This needs a bit more attempts to be confident..... but if its true that you can either cut the clone.....or leave it to flower.... makes the proposition pretty safe from a gain vs loss perspective....You need only cut the clone if you can see its rooted.....

Serious question crane.....

You say 2 minutes old.... are you bagging this plant or did you let it get enough roots to sustain itself those first couple days post cut???

I found that I dont need to bag them. I root them out with a full root mass. Then I put them off where they are not getting intense light and let them go. Not sure if it helps them but my RH is 50 to 55%.
