All gas is compressible. When you let the can into the system, most of it turns to gas.
You'll see your low side gauge go from -30 to +10 or so instantly. Even if you
freeze your cans, at -30hg most of the liquid sublimates to a gas right away.

after further investigation ive decided that the undersirable gas in my system has got to be coming from the cans. for now i need to take more care and distill a good quantity of butane before extracting to not end up with this problem, but ultimately getting ntane will be the solution.

Resistance to flow is from friction against the walls of the hose, and the pump has a 1/4" inlet so anything larger than 1/4" reduces the friction against the walls, by giving the same volume of air, a greater volume to expand into.

There are practical limits, and at some point the larger volume comes into play as well, from the standpoint it is more volume to evacuate. The sweet spot lies somewhere less than 1/2".

Thanks GW, based on that would you recommend a smooth bore PTFE overbraided hose over a corrugated stainless hose do to decreased surface area -> decreased resistance to flow?

It would be faster.

Not sure if someone has asked this before, but approximately how often are you supposed to replace the filter leading to the appion? Is there a way to tell when they're done?

Depends on use......

The filter in front of the pump is to just catch liquid drops and it needs replacing when you blow through it and it isn't completely free, but if you cut them apart, you will see an accumulation of oil in them, so ostensibly they get less effective with time.

For dewatering, I would add a filter drier on the line from the pump to the storage tank and if you weigh it before use, you can keep track of how much water it has picked up by weighing it.

You can also pack a column made from a sanitary spool with Molecular Sieve and bake it out periodically for reuse.

it was purged thick needs to be purged thinner.

their is no plant material in the extract.

But the color could be better.

An optical delusion............

Would you share more about the process paramenters?

GW the process...

We packed the tube with popcorn buds form 2013 outdoor season.

We ran a flush cycle and reclaimed to 0hg with the appion.
Ran another flush cycle then circulated for 20 min then reclaimed to 0hg again.
We then ran another flush cycle and again reclaimed to 0 hg.
3 cycles total

The collection pot was scraped and the contents purged to 15hg until non reactive, then29hg at about 120 overnight.

I believe it got to hot and we got waxing.
This is the pic the morning after..

Ill find some pics before scraping......
Next time lower heat.

I really don't think the 'Re-circulating' method of showering your tube
is a good idea, as the butane is pretty hot. Around 80 to 90F.

What makes you say that the butane is hot when re-showering technique? We re-pressurize the butane to 100 psi after the apion, when the butane is on its way back to the top of the column. Never measured temp here though. Assumed that at 100 psi butane returns to liquid and therefor is at minimum -3 C. Is this technique flawed? I'd like some evidence or solid reasoning. GW a chime in?

As you may note, the Terpenator process that I shared, doesn't involve showering, though it does involve a final rinse from the top, after dumping. The reason for choosing that method, is that I've found my procedure averages more that 2% greater oil yield, than the open single pass tubes I ran in, and more than if I run the Terpenator in simple shower mode.

Surfaces blind to the flow during showering, will tend to stay blind to the flow, unless you repack the tube and run a second time.

Believing is seeing, and clearly others have found showering more effective, sooooo, I encourage you to test for yourself and report back.

Anytime you compress a gas you create heat. When I check the line going back
to the tank, it's consistantly 80F with only the back pressure of the tank 25~50psi
Using the shower method and 100psi of back pressure I assume
the temp of the butane will be even higher.

Sure, it drops when it turns to a gas, but is doing it's job as a liquid. A warm liquid.
Which I assume pulls out more fats and waxes.
