I borrowed a vac n chamber.. and I had to give it back. so now im working with no vac an chamber.. until I order one.. I think ill grab one today.. but until then.. how would anyone here.. do a water bath or griddle.. and wat temps should I shoot for to get it all out.. and how long am I looking at of a purgeg without a vac.. and how do u tell the difference between decarb/terpene bubbles .. compared to just butane.

You shouldn't purge at a high enough temperature to see decarb bubbles, unless you intend to decarb. Use a laser thermometer to make sure your oil doesn't go above 130 when purging w/o vacuum (I go slightly higher temp without vacuum - 115 with vacuum).

If you don't have a vacuum purge, keep it on 110-115f water until there is no visible reaction/very little visible reaction. You can use a torch (do not hit it with flame. the heat after the flame you want) or heat gun to quickly pass over the top, popping stubborn bubbles/encouraging more butane to form bubbles. Without vacuum 7grams of oil can take hours to purge with low heat alone. Be careful 'razing' your bubbles with a torch/heat gun, too much heat (too close, or too long) you'll slowly cook away taste.

Some users use a Titanium dabbing pad heated to 120-130 to 'heat raze' their oil from the top. Advantage being a 120f Ti pad won't heat you oil to degrading levels.

http://skunkpharmresearch.com/decarboxylation/ - example of residual butane bubbles.
https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=5581464&postcount=3 - Decarb bubbles, the very small uniform bubbles trailing up are decarboxylation bubbles, I think the larger irregular bubbles up top is still butane. (Is this your missing 2nd pic from the 'decarb' section Gray Wolf? It is still missing on Skunk Pharms decarb page)

ya I was just wondering.. wat the deal is.. my friends that have moved to cali.. and a few to Colorado were not using a vac at first.. and they brought back some fine glass.. but recently they both have got vacs.. and changed there techniques to save taste and smell.. so I have been using there techniques without vac.. the thing is . I thought that it would degrade my material.. leaving it in a form that's not completely purged?,,, I left it on a hot water purge for sooooooooooo long at low temps.. for a while.. and the material looks great. but still butane is in it.. so how long do u think I could keep this without fully purging it .. and not fucking up pthe product.? or does it last for a while.. whats the best method to store something that's not fully purged? I mean shit.. the shit is deff almost there.. but not quite.

First time bho maker has a question...

Made my first batch of bho the other day. I intend to activate it and mix it in some chocolate. I was going to heat purge in the oven. I put the oven on warm and put the bho on the middle rack on some foil. After about a minute the element kicked on and the oil began to boil but didn't smoke. I took it out immediately and cooled it. Not sure what the temp was, but I was concerned about the boiling.
Did I degrade it? Is that a "good" purge, or is it possibly under purged? I'm thinking if it boiled profusely the desired reaction probably occurred.
Someone please set me straight!

SkyHighLer,

Thanks I had just read that. One particular paragraph that caught my attention was this...

"Decarboxylation occurs naturally with time and temperature, as a function of drying, but we can shorten the amount of time required considerably, by adding more heat. The more heat, the faster it occurs, within reasonable ranges, and in fact occurs spontaneously when the material is burned or vaporized"

How long would it take for this process to occur at room temperature under normal conditions?

I've had a big chunk air drying for 6 days now. It's stopped bubbling and dried to a solid.

Decarbing BHO is really simple and easy once you've got a setup and have seen the bubbles for yourself. Pictured is tiny glass stash jar just barely floating on some olive oil in a Turkish coffee pot that is sitting directly on a gas stove top burner set to low. I use an IR thermometer to keep the temperature at about 250F until the bubbling slows and then quickly cool the jar by fishing it out and placing it on the ceramic tile kitchen counter top, I leave a little bit of olive oil between the jar and the counter top to conduct the heat.

When decarbed just right like this the effects of the oil will knock your socks off, at least compared to the weak edibles I've tried at my local MMJ dispensaries.

I'm going to be making some bho with the bud rotted portions of my last harvest. I have about 2 oz, or 59.3g I will be running, How much butane do you think I will need?
I bought 4 cans, no clue if that's too little or two much.

This will be my first bho run, but I've read several threads on how to safely make bho, and I will be doing it outdoors.
Should be receiving a 30g tube from amazon here shortly. I also purchased some 120 micron metal screens to use as well.
I am also planning on winterizing it. I'm thinking about a liter of everclear should be more than enough, right?

i dont know the science behind it but iwould have a very bad feeling making oil out of moldy material. after all, you are concentrating the stuff... maybe even the bad stuff.. but like i said, this is just my feeling.
i mean, if you have a little mold on a few buds, you could still make water hash, it might wash it off.
to be honest, i would just throw the moldy stuff away. i have done it many times. it hurts but better be safe than sorry.
