okay. i still don't buy it. i make sure to monitor my oil while it's purging so that it's not too hot and purging out terpenes. all of my oil and waxes have fantastic smell that is the essence of each strain that it's made from. I'm just not taking my top nugs and grinding them up to make bho with, and most people aren't. so most people won't come even close to touching 20%

By yield percentages which are at issue, you can compare different methods of extraction, working with the same material,
or compare the quality of the material, working with the same technique of extraction.

When both material and technique are different, the percentage of output is not quite informative indicator.

Incomplete extraction of the very rich material can yield less than the full extraction of the poorer material.

I think dynamics of the liquid gas in the pipe is so that the larger the diameter, the smaller the flow in the border area with walls.

Try mentally to increase the diameter of the extractor for intuitive understanding,
gas will clean wash those areas where it will flow with less resistance, while the peripheral zone will only be wetted but not washed out.

When the flow rate is low, then over the surface of the material appears inactive layer of saturated solution,
which additionally retained by capillary forces, the dissolution of the resin in such areas slows down or stops.

For economical amount of butane this saturated layer is not removed, but remains on the surface of the material as a wetting film.

Although spilling gas will be colorless, this is not a sign of complete extraction of the entire volume of the loaded material.

I don't know what to tell ya man. It's probably the difference between our bud/trim. Hell, the trim I get is smokeable and tastes good. I have a feeling yours isn't. That's not to hate, I just run small batches so I don't need much.

I was at a clinic today sampling and sharing my BHO and the consensus was that you should really expect anywhere from 14%-25%, and the guys who are good at making it are pulling 20%-23% on a regular basis with high quality buds to begin with. Hell, one of the older guys was working on a patent for decarboxylating and experimenting with that for BHO and concentrate purposes, and even he was getting 17% from his trim.

What type of butane do you use?

There are 3 runs. Each run was 10-ish grams, each run used 2/3 can. Nothing was weighed. Descriptions are in the album.

if you got the right strain the trim will give 20%. most things with ogkush in them will do 20% in the bud. grinding up buds doesnt increase yield much, maybe 2 percent. if you chop up fresh bud fine it wont effect flavor of the oil, but dry bud it does effect the color and taste a lot more.

a lot of the trim i used is exactly as you describe. the strawberry cough run from a couple of posts back had 14g of popcorn nugs mixed in and was from a very good batch of cough. no trim goes in the tube if it doesn't have trichs on it.

Well what you put in is what you get out, and from my experiences, it looks like the stuff you are running has a much higher plant-to-THC ratio than my trim has. Your BHO looks like it has allot of plant waxes in it which leads me to believe that it was lower quality outdoor trim that didn't have a good amount of trichromes on it. I bet you can't get your stuff to budder or stabilize no matter how hard you try huh? That's due to having too much plant material in your BHO.

are you kidding me? all of my shit is stable.
notice the 3 gram ball of buddered up katsu bubba kush oil in this shot.. the rest is wax/shatter all stable at room temp and manageable with bare hands.

or how about this one... whole nugs went into the white piece, lightly ground into the piece above that and fully ground in the piece on the left.

maybe you weren't attacking my skills before, but now you are. so just shut up and keep your giant BHO yields to yourself. post nice pics for people to look at if you have the skill to make your huge yields look good in photos.

I was commenting on the pictures I posted, I didn't look through everything you have. I wasn't attacking you, I was just going by what I had. The pictures I posted are what I would call "peanut butter", which is good, but it won't completely budder up and thats due to the fact that it isn't great trim. That isn't my opinion, it's a fact. The other pictures you just posted are better looking, but I still prefer my product, even though you think we are using the same quality of trim. You were the one who attacked my yield claims when they are in no way out of the ordinary for somebody who knows what they are doing with good quality trim/nug. If I had the funds to go out and buy more trim and do another run to prove you wrong I would, but unfortunately I don't have the ability to do that.

I didn't register here to stir shit up man, I wanted to share what I can do, and I thought it would be appreciated. Sorry you are only getting 13.5%, but I guarantee a majority of people who will eventually chime in will also agree that yields in the 15%-20% range are easily achievable.

there are strains that will only yield 13 percent at best i have found. some strains average around 15-16, others around 20, some at 25 in a good grow. i have a bubba kush S1 that is consistently at around 15-16%. my og kush cross is usually 20plus, and the old sweet skunk cutting i have is right around 20 usually as well. i have a red congo thats around 13-14, but i dont use it for oil, and willie nelson never put out more than 12-13% but it was extra potent :)

my problem is i can't control the quality of trim that people give me to do production runs for them. runs from my personal crops always yield more and taste/look better. but I can get almost any batch to budder or wax up. only been 2 or 3 times where the trim quality was so low that it won't do it even with tons of whipping

About the same experience here with BHO, my brother HMK.

Somewhere between 12% and 22%, with the average of our current strains about 17/18%.

Perversely one of our best high CBD medicinal strains that we covet lots of oil from for cancer patients, is one of our lowest oil yielders.

I've never actually gotten more than 21.6% and have only personally observed greater than 25% using reflux extraction in alcohol, which of course also has lots of wax and chlorophyll in it.

After trying budder out, we typically don't budder either on purpose, though some strains donated to us sometimes self budder and they still work well.

Our panel tests hasn't demonstrated any potency gains and the oil which we vaporize works well all by itself, though budder may be easier to handle and vaporize without dedicated equipment.

As far as good trim/bad trim, unless it is a strain that us'n skunk pharmers grew ourselves, I'm at a disadvantage trying to explain why some oil does this and others do that, though I'm paying close attention and trying to add rhyme and reason.

Mostly we just process it into meds and move on, because on the surface it appears, that the same strain grown by different folks, produce different results. Not a shocker, but less intuitive than simply being strain dependant.

Wish I knew where the truth was, and as soon as I find it, I'll most definitely share! We are sincerely trying to use our own sp gardens to narrow down the strains grown specific ways.

The good news, is that even without fully understanding our beloved Mary's sweet spots, she still puts out and delivers big time!! You have to sincerely admire that in an enthusiastic and big hearted woman!!!

I know sweet Mary certainly keeps me wet and willing..............

Not always in my opinion. a good made wax or budder is nice too:)

Don't get me wrong I have had FANTASTIC waxes and budders, but I have never had a wax/budder version of an oil that didn't taste better as a taffy. For instance the Berry White OG x BM Lambsbread BHO I recently made tasted much better as a taffy than it did once I whipped it and turned it into budder. Feels like I am losing allot of the terpines through heat and agitation.

BTW that trim is legit. It is literally impossible to find trim of that quality at any clinic. I wish I could get my hands on stuff that looked like that :(
