There was an explosion Monday night in a St. Petersburg home that police say was caused by residents attempting to make hashish oil. According to St. Petersburg Police,*the explosion, which happened 921 1/2 Yale St. N., happened around 7:40 p.m. Monday.*

Police said, "a combination of chemicals used in the making of*the hashish oil caused an explosion, which blew out one exterior wall and*severely damaged an interior wall at the residence."

At the time of the explosion, three people were inside. One man suffered serious burns and was taken to the Tampa General Burn Unit. Another male and female were inside the home but did not sustain serious injuries. At this time, police said no one has bee charged but that may soon change.

OMG I don't know If any of y'all are on instagram, but there used to be a page called bhotards and you wouldn't believe the amount of retards trying to justify blasting indoors. It actually got shut down because people were getting upset that their tane soup and indoor open blasting pictures were being laughed at by how should I say, people with common sense.

I believe he may have started a new page called taneheads, but it doesn't have the collection of stupid that the first page did.

Lol

hard to get ahead when your head is full of tane

CARR, Colo. - Three people, including a 7-year-old boy, were injured in a house explosion and fire in Carr, Colo., earlier this month.
Clayton Smith, 30; Levi Allen, 28; and the 7-year-old boy were treated for injuries. The two men had severe burns and the boy had minor injuries in the Aug. 11 incident at 61673 Fourth St.

According to a news release issued Wednesday, a search warrant was executed at the Carr residence and deputies found evidence of marijuana being grown at the residence along with a posted medical marijuana permit at the residence.
"Preliminary findings of the investigation indicate that some form of extraction process to produce a marijuana concentrate from the marijuana plants -- known as 'Hash oil' or possibly 'marijuana wax' -- may have been the cause of the explosion inside the residence," the release from the Weld County Sheriff's Office stated.

"It seems like a relatively recent trend of people who have figured out how to turn a benign plant into an explosive."

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. --* Police say an attempt to extract hash oil from a marijuana plant caused an apartment explosion in Mount Vernon Thursday that blew the windows out at an apartment and sent at least three people to the hospital.

Mount Vernon police say officers arrived to find flames coming from one of the units. The impact of the blast sent glass several feet into the parking lot and walls were forced off their studs.

Lt. Chris Cammock says the injured people drove themselves to Skagit Valley Hospital. Cammock believes a fourth person also checked themselves in later with injuries. None of the injures appear to be life-threatening.

The method of using butane to extract hash oil from marijuana is so popular and dangerous that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) issued an unexpected alert to emergency responders across the country.

Fire officials say the problem is when the process is carried out indoors. The excess butane, they say, is heavier than air and builds up on the floor until it reaches a ignition source. Explosions capable of blowing out windows and walls can result.*

More at news site. The Feds' are now getting involved, this story was first ran on Aug. 15th of this year, the FEMA warning is apparently new.

Explosion sends suspected ‘hash oil’ cooker to hospital, then jail

Two Modesto residents were arrested early Friday morning after an explosion and fire in their small apartment turned out to be a drug-cooking procedure gone awry.
Modesto Police Sgt. Rick Applegate said Dontae Dupree Galindo, 22, and Deanne Dana Brown, 23, both were booked on drug manufacturing and child endangerment charges, adding a probation violation charge for Galindo stemming from a previous conviction.

An explosion and fire at an apartment in Fresno’s Tower District has been linked to a concentrated form of marijuana known as honey oil. Seven people were forced out of their homes here. The cause: a man in an upstairs apartment was trying to make a concentrated form of marijuana. Fire investigators say the man who lives in this apartment was making what's known as hash oil or honey oil when it exploded. “This could have happened in the morning or the afternoon and this is a family business where mothers come in with their babies, with their children,” Quezada said.* The force of the blast was so strong it sent debris across two lanes of traffic and into businesses across the street.*
Amazingly there was only one serious injury - the man in the apartment that exploded suffered burns over 80 percent of his body. Neighbors say it shook the entire street.*“You can die, it effects not just you, everyone in the neighborhood ‘cause that stuff's serious”.* “Just to hear what the cause of it was, it's scary. You never know where it's going to be how close it is. It could be right next door.”

Another indoor extraction, when will they learn? With his body 80% burnt he is not expected to live. Get the stuff outside and away from habitation, people are getting very pissed off. Big jail time coming soon for this.

MODESTO — A report of a barbecue fire at a central Modesto home turned up a hash oil lab and a small marijuana garden Monday evening.
Crews from the Modesto Regional Fire Authority were dispatched to a fire in the 1900 block of Edsel Avenue, northwest of Briggsmore Avenue and Tully Road, about 7:15 p.m.
A man at the home said a barbecue fire had gotten out of control, but crews discovered evidence of hash oil manufacturing, said Modesto police Sgt. Rick Applegate.
Investigators said the man was in his garage using butane to extract hash oil from marijuana plants when the pilot light on a water heater ignited the fumes, causing a small explosion and starting a fire.
Modesto police searched the home and found two marijuana plants in the back yard, three pounds of dried marijuana and a rifle, Applegate said.
Alejandro Jimenez, 20, was arrested on suspicion of manufacturing hash oil, possessing marijuana for sale and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

California is a 3 strike state, with one prior conviction and 3 felony counts he stands to do life in prison if he gets a tough judge or doesn't plead out.

SAN DIEGO - Two people were hospitalized after an explosion at an apartment complex in Pacific Beach.
The incident was reported at about 6:48 p.m. Tuesday on Grand Avenue at Noyes Street.
According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, there was not an active fire. The explosion was caused by butane used to cook some sort of drug, possibly hash oil.
Multiple units were damaged by the explosion. Three units in the building were evacuated.
The two victims were taken to local hospitals to be treated for third-degree burns.
Authorities found drugs at the unit where the explosion occurred. The San Diego Police Department's narcotics unit is conducting the investigation and exploring possible drug charges against the two.

Take a look at what 2nd and 3rd Degree burns look like, try to imagine what they feel like.

Police: Santa Cruz blast victims making hash oil

SANTA CRUZ, Calif.—Three men making hash oil were critically injured in an explosion and fire, Santa Cruz police said Monday.
Fire crews responded to the blast at an apartment building in the city around 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The men—all Santa Cruz residents in their 20s—sustained life-threatening burns, police said.
They were taken to a San Francisco Bay Area trauma center, where they were in critical condition.
Efforts to extinguish the fire were hampered by additional explosions from butane canisters, police said. But crews were able to contain the blaze and minimize damage to surrounding structures.
Hash oil is a potent marijuana byproduct that is extracted with butane from parts of the plant that are often discarded.
Without proper ventilation, butane vapors can build up and be easily ignited by an open flame or static electricity. Explosions involving hash oil production are not uncommon.
The primary blast area in Sunday's explosion points to the water heater pilot light, police said.
Sophia Tolson, who lives next door to the men, said she ran outside to see what was happening after hearing a "huge boom."
"I heard the boom and guys came out screaming," she told the Santa Cruz Sentinel (http://bit.ly/15Eisi8). "I saw one had his eyebrows missing, his shirt was melting. He looked at me and said, 'Please call 911.' "

Police briefs: Seaside man making hash oil seriously burned, fire official says
The Monterey County Herald
POSTED: * 10/02/2013 08:48:13 PM PDT | UPDATED: * ABOUT 8 HOURS AGO

SEASIDE

Man seriously burned making hash oil
A man suffered serious burns to his face on Wednesday from a fire that broke out while he was cooking hash oil outside a Seaside home, a fire official said.
The man was airlifted to a San Francisco Bay Area hospital.
Hash oil is a marijuana by-product extracted from parts of the plant that are often discarded.
On Sunday, three men making hash oil in Santa Cruz were critically injured in an explosion and fire. Seaside fire Battalion Chief Chris Reitenour called Wednesday's incident "basically a repeat" of what happened in Santa Cruz.
The fire occurred in the 1000 block of Carson Street. Firefighters kept it from spreading to the house and extinguished it within 10 minutes.

Grey Wolf says that the fire ball from butane exceeds 3000F, thats enough to melt steel or fry eyeballs.

I would like to emphasize and underscore that the above situation occurred while he was cooking his oil OUTSIDE his home.

Dummies really need to put down the butane, unless they are filling up their zippo.

To be honest, I am not sure threads like these help a whole lot of people unfortunately. At the end of the day it comes down to common sense and being aware of your surroundings. If you made it at least 18 years without having those qualities, I am not sure how much hope there is for you. I think people assume that because it's the extraction of weed, and not something like essential oils or perfume or something similar, you don't need to take the precautions that any regulated industry would take to ensure safety.

Realize the dangers people!!!!

We've had four BHO blast injuries in our Emergency Room in the last month (harvest season).... There is nothing sadder than seeing a fellow human being with 40-60% second and third degree burns.

Faces are shredded, eyes swollen shut, mouth and nose blackened, shreds of skin literally falling onto the floor, .... the smell of burnt flesh and hair....next comes getting intubated (tube in the trachea), tube in the stomach, and a bladder catheter. Not to mention large bore IV's x 2-3. If you don't need an escharotomy (look THAT one up on Gurgle images), and we make sure you're not going to die of hypovolemic/septic shock, the 2-3 times daily debridement of burned tissue begins.

Despite the narcotics and other sedatives, the pain is obviously excruciating... this person's life will never be the same.....

From a 20-year Emergency Room Nurse to all IC... please don't extract with Butane indoors. Have fun, but be SAFE!

Santa Çruz seems loaded with idiots who extract inside.

SANTA CRUZ, Calif- Emergency crews had an area of Walk Circle in Santa Cruz blocked Wednesday afternoon. According to the emergency dispatch, they were responding to a report of an explosion on the 100 block.
Neighbors told Central Coast News that they heard an explosion around 1:24 p.m. There was smoke in the house and the windows were broken. It appeared that the back-blast from the explosion actually worked to blow out the flames, said police.
According to a neighbor, the person inside the house left before emergency crews arrived. The neighbor said that it looked like the person was badly burned.
Emergency workers at Dominican Hospital contacted police to tell them that a burn victim was in the hospital. Officers learned that the burn victim started to drive himself to the hospital when he met his girlfriend and she drove him the rest of the way. The victim was later taken to a bay area burn center in critical conditon. Police have not relased his identity, but say that the 29-year-old did live in the house where the explosion occured.
Officers also found two dogs in the home that were badly injured in the explosion.
The explision originated from the bathroom, where both doors were completely blown off. The blast also blew out the front window of the home, said police.
Santa Cruz Police said that is does appear that this explosion was the result of someone trying to manufacture hash oil or "BHO". BHO is a process that uses chemicals to extract concentrated THC from marijuana plants. The process is extremely dangerous due to the use of highly combustible butane.

“A butane fire ball is over 3000 degrees, enough to melt steel”, Gray Wolf.

October 2013 - It has come to our attention that many are purchasing butane-based lighter fluids to make backyard cannabis concentrates, and manufacturing indoors with volatile solvents, causing explosions and fires.
Qualified patients can use and make hashish legally under state law. However, the*Bergen decision (2008)*determined that using butane to make hash oil is not covered by the medical use statutes. California Health and Safety Code Section 11379.6(a) makes it unlawful to engage in the chemical extraction of a substance as part of the process of manufacturing a controlled substance. The charge carries a prison sentence of 3-7 years and a fine of up to $50,000.
Several explosions and fires have been reported due to BHO extractions done indoors with open-air blasting methods. Recently, a 2-year-old girl had to be helicoptered from Eureka to Sacramento for medical treatment after a butane explosion in her home caused severe burns on her body.
