BEST OVERALL AIR COOLED REFLECTOR ?

That should be plenty. I'm assuming you mean inline fan (like a Vortex, Elicent, etc) and not an inline duct booster fan.

First that appears to be an AC powered fan, not a typical DC "computer fan". It's really no different than a SunCourt inline duct booster fan. The 6" version (around 250cfm) was just enough to cool a 400w through a very short duct run, but I wouldn't recommend it for anything more.

...lol... that link pretty much answers the dudes question. ac or dc those are axial fans made for cooling computers and electronic equip. cfm is one thing, static pressure is another. fans work tons better in a push-pull set up and the dude has 2 fans.

...lol... that link pretty much answers the dudes question. ac or dc those are axial fans made for cooling computers and electronic equip. at 78 cfm each they cooled 2 600s. It seems to me a big part of making them work efficiently is the push-pull way they are set up and the dude asking has 2 fans....

Duct boosters don't have shit for static pressure and when not set up in a push-pull I can see how it didn't work for you... besides I dont think he was asking about duct booter fans.

Electronic equipment as in small heatsinks on small chips. They're not meant for, and don't work well in, cooling HIDs. It might remove a little bit of heat, but you can't even begin to compare a 200cfm "computer fan" with a 200cfm inline centrifugal fan. It's like day and night... or pitch dark, even.

Duct booster fans are far more powerful than "computer fans" even in terms of static pressure.

From the link...showing the use of 2 computer fans to cool HIDs:

I run one fan in each light and it works perfect. The fans are 78 cfm each and cool my 2 6oos fine, even in summer...

Bottom line is fromOtodaG asked if 2 computer fans would cool 2 600s. I put up this link showing that in this case 2 computer fans did cool 2 600s... plain and simple....you are annoying and like to argue.. I don't.

Lol, sorry, I was just dickin around! They don't make hoods like that, YET!

In my overactivated imagination, a few posts above...

 You made me think i'd missed something ! Well back to the Radiant 8" & the Agrolux V8 for my votes for using 600-1000w's coupled with a less 8" filter

...........i don't think i'd advocate using pc fans for aircooled hoods-unless you've got a fireman fetish-it sounds like a recipe for disaster to me-but hey different folks etc

it's an interesting discussion guys-i've not seen any Daystars or Coolsuns in UK wholesale catalogues (yet) -pity because the Daystars look good, i'd like to try one myself. Most people i know either use Cooltubes or aircooled Supernovas.

I've ordered some of the new duel bulb Cooltubes for a friend and myself-should be in next week, i'll try to remember to post a pic, they are 150x800mm which means what you loose out on with the poor lightcoverage you should hopefully make up with the extra power-although the problem with heat spots will still remain. These ones have a small reflector inside that is fixed but removable-so they can't rattle about or fall on the bulb-and an additional bit that fits on the outside (a bit like the modified ones that some people have knocked up).

The best way to use them is vertically-and if these sats stretch as much as i fear :jawdrop: -i may be demonstrating in the near future

I use a SunSystem Cool Sun also. 400 watter and works great. I also have one of their T5's that I really like for clones and such.
Peace Dudes, really

here they are-monster cool tubes. The first pic shows the exterior reflector fitted-the second without. I'm going to run it with a 400w MH in one end and a 600w hps in the other -i guess any 6" fan should be adequate. My friend is using two of them with 4 250w hps in a tiny growtent-wild.

Super Sun 2 from sun systems, 200usd by them selves but just as much as any reflector when you buy them with a light.
Think about having a daystar ac without having to run the cord through the ducting. The socket set is included and the cord comes out through the top of the reflector

:chin: I have daystar AC's and i don't have the cords running through the ducting. I def do like those features on the super sun 2's.

I run my cord through the notch provided too, but it always gets f'd up and I end up running around trying to tape every reflector up every day. I love a/c's imo they are the best combo of footprint and cooling on the market(who wants to pay for 100ft of insulated 8inch ducting ) ...besides the Supersun 2's

That looks pretty interesting! I wonder how good the light footprint is? Do you know the dimensions? I'm not seeing that.

What do you guys think of this project x reflector? http://texashydroponics.com/shop/product.php?productid=2192&cat=55&page=1

Its only 100 bucks. Is it worth it to spend the extra 50 for the silverstar?

I think it's worth the extra $50 for 600's and 1k's...those cheaper ones have double paned tempered glass - that's gonna equal alot of light being blocked. Supposedly the Silverstars are available with 8" flanges now as well...but I still haven't seen one in person

I can see what they are saying, J.Magical, but its also possible that they have a huge overstock of shitty ass parabolics and their are trying to unload them on growers who don't know any better. I'm not saying parabolics are shit, but I own 5 or 6 and they are a storage problem for me....

There are plenty of hoods that have a large footprint for light distribution and use a horizontal bulb. In reality, I think the key is more light, so that most of the plants the good lighting. Parabolics give even light, its equaly weak over the entire canopy.
