all the terrier's dogs are defense dog, not for guard....mastiff's to work lines are the best for guard: american bulldog scott line, presa canario, cane corso, dogue de bordeaux and mastiff.....presa canario is the most strong, ambull the most lovely stubborn workaholic....... :shark:
:thank you:

Here in Australia we have the Blue Heeler. They're fast, tough, clever and nasty!!! The males weigh in at 27kg so they're not a big dog but guaranteed your back yard is safe. Only prob is they let people in...they won't get out until he's drawn blood.

Best part is they are totally loyal to the family and won't bite guests while the owner is there. If the owner is out you cannot go there...no matter how friendly you think he is towards you!!!

i am loving my shepard. great guard dog. well worth the money. i dont let anyone pat or feed her. when peeps come over dog goes out back.she chases everything away. including birds ,bees and flies.

I've owned a few dogs but, I can honestly say that I love my Rotti, 165lbs of loveable oaf. Don't be mistaken though if he feels you're shady or a threat in any way he'll let you know. Smart and "WELL TRAINED" he's a part of this pack. In my opinion Rotti's make the best guard dogs, but nothing can beat a well trained dog of any breed.

We had a elkhound/shepard mix. He was a natural. Once at a party a friend wanted to walk past my truck. Oakley grabbed (soft grip) him by his wrist and LED him around the truck. But the look in his eyes said "Do not make any quick moves". Freaked me out, but he was a soldier and lived for us.
We've always had 3-4 dogs around for the last 35 years. Makes for quite a pack. I hope they are all lined up at the pearly gates when I make my appearance.

I have a Bernese Mountain Dog. It's a male (the females are absolutely hopeless guard dogs..we had one it died at 4.5 from cancer)..but the male is all bravado bounces around the fence barking ferociously when a stranger walks by. But if the stranger opens the gate..no problem..come in...lets play..tail wagging...would you like a drink? :) . Not good guard dogs but big and look meanish. Great with children though and friends. Id like a Doberman but they are not for beginners, im fairly experienced with dogs, had a Boxer, Shepherd. Training is the main thing. Do not ever hit dogs, bad, as you will screw them up psychologically and never be able to train them. The British Police beat and abuse their dogs and call it training, their German shepherds are fcked up.

there is no "best" because dogs have been bred to be a mix of different characteristics.. ie watch dog/alarm dog/guard dog are different things..

if you want someone to shit themselves and run then a rottweiler bitch will do the job.. if you want someone to get nowhere near your property then dobermans are good because they make some of the best watch dogs and if you want a dog that will actually kill intruders then get an irish wolfhound, ive had quite a few and the mouths and teeth on them are something else.. and when that gallops towards you some part of your brain just says "this is it, i'm dead"..

they abuse everything, especially their own brains..

Besy guard animal i ever had was a cranky old ram. Try n get past him and he'd knock you to kingdom come lol. He recieved a dose of lead poisoning after hurting a kid. Thankfully only a couple of busted ribs but twas enough for Ramstein to be chopped up as dogfood

Got a couple of bull arabs these days to keep the 'critters' away :)

hiya,,although i havent owned a dog for several years [now burmese cats in appt] my mother is on her second rottweiler bitch, for us our best dog was our pitbull,,loyal, loving but loved people so not good for a guard dog but since our first rottweiler died through cancer at a young age,,my parent didnt think twice when it came to replacing her,and bought another rottie almost immedietly [dad was alive at the time] as they were such good guardians,,when a rottie gets angry,,fur standing up,,eyes seemingly on fire they are that red,, will make any shitbag home invader piss in his pants,,prior to the ineveitable attack,, i love pitbulls but for a guard, its rottweilwers every time, cheers s2

I totally agree with Lost in a sea on Irish Wolf Hounds! Had one in my early teens.Huge dog, real intimidating, and very loyal. He loved me and nobody could come near me in an agressive manner playing or otherwise. That dog could put a half mile behind him in notime and I never saw a Jack rabbit make it weather on dry ground or a foot of snow.

RIP "Bandit"

Cheers PB

That reminds me of what a farmer once told me, he had a Vietnamese Pot Bellied Pig and he swore it was the best guard 'dog' he ever saw......
