for the record Kano lives across the street with his owners ...all our dogs are trained by me and wife only (with made up words) so ppl cant control them(sic them on other ppl) only we can ....my dogs are so trained they wont even eat for anyone other then me the wife or the kids no matter how hungry they get due to i dont want them posioned by pitty haters only time ive let my dogs do anything is when this 4yo lil boy was being mualed by 2 full grown rottys who were caged and kenneled up with no social lifes at all got loose and i let my boys choas and O.Z attack them to save the kids life


i agree with above if u dont want pits get a boxer i raised AKC boxers for 12yrs before moving on to pits ...but in my opinon boxer is more likely to bite then a pit w/o notice but make great guard dogs and excellent companions to kids and adults my boxer of 21yrs passed away and i didnt want another so therefor moved on

dude i been around the breed for 28yrs and own my own kennel ramble on with your bs and for the record UKC not AKC as in United Kennel Club PR purple ribbon bred these dogs still have the gameness in them if u get them from the right places anyways...

If I may further my opinion, APBT aren't really the best guard dog breed. They aren't naturally human aggressive, they weren't bred for it. They are dog aggressive.
Breeds such as German Sheprards, Dobies, and cana presario(sp?), were bred to be guard dogs, making them naturally human aggressive, better for guarding against humans.
In no way am I saying pits can't be good guard dogs tho'. They are very intelligent, and have great learning ability.

just so everyone doesnt get the wrong idea, DNA testing does nothing more than confirm the parents (only if they also have dna on file) it cannot be sequenced to show that it is a true apbt. we simply do not have the technology to do this yet. so all your "DNA" test does is prove that its the pup of 2 DNA tested parents (which still means nothing that they are apbt). bullies are not apbt. they are muts, closer to bandogge mastiffs.

I wonder how many people test before choosing and bringing a pup home? Rolling a ball or coffee can quarter full of pennies toward the litter, Tuggowar, who eats first or last, simple things that can help reach goals later in training.

IMHO the best guard dog is one that fits your goals, environment, temperament, and experience.

my 2 cents: bully's and pure apbt's are two totally different breeds, agree with Hold Your Fire 100%, and I have owned apbt's pure and bully type. Also Am Bulldogs, Boxer, Akita's, Yorkies, and Presa Canario. Meanest is the yorkie by far, it means nothing cuz he does not own the body to back up his attitude. Same goes for pits, bully or not, when it comes to stopping a grown man.

Just had an attempted break-in three days ago. No one home, girlfriend gets home 10:30pm and sees someone jumping the fence as she's coming into the yard. Calls me to tell me she's scared so I tell her to put the dogs outside(Presa and Yorkie) and don't worry about it. While we're on the phone she hears someone screwing with one of the window's. Dog caught his ass trying to hop the fence again and tore him a new one. Not one lick of prof. training. Just me, a blunt, and encouraging wanted behavior in the yard for 4 yrs. This is the fourth time in those four yrs he has chased someone from my yard, first one he has caught. Tuggo

I founded and run a animal rescue, have took in most of the breeds mentioned. I would say do some pound runs and see some of these breeds as they can all be found in rescue. Some mastiffs can be a little touchy but imo the best breeds in the world. I have an english mastiff and looove him. Have taken in english, filas, boerboel's, cane corso's, bordeaux, neos and bulls and all are so very different in personality. Many of the mastiffs can be a little touchy with strangers but its also how well socialized you get them when they are young.
Great pyreness can be wonderful especially with children and farm animals. Shepherds are great but you need to put the time in to train them right.

Silversurfer- newfoundland you cant go wrong. Best loyal gentle family dog. Best with kids hands down. Close second english mastiffs and great pyreness.

one day i was getting the outside of my house painted. it had been going on for 2 days. i would lock the dog door and leave for work. on the 3rd day, i forgot to lock the dog door. the house painter came into the backyard, so did my dog matagi. matagi went after the painter, giving him 100+ stitches from his neck, down his arm. however, matagi stopped attacking the guy as soon as he made it out of the gate. i came home to meet with animal control, he said that matagi never came back out of the gated yard after the attack and was a good dog. my fault, i paid for it too!

well bred dobies hands down. only breed of dog specifically bred from its inseption to bite a human. but if ur just lookin for a deterent any large black dog with a good bark from the pound will do. dont know about were u all live but pits get boosted along with your tv here. def wouldnt trust one to keep my house safe.

For guard dog..American Staffordshire Terrier..get a young pup,get a female,train it with nothing but love,and instincts from the dog will more then keep you protected ....I never use my dogs to fight my battles,just let me know when there's trouble, and most see the breed and just the look of the animal is deterrent enough..
