Yea, im sure the little gals could go into flower but imma hold off on that for a couple more weeks, i want them to bush out more and give the branches longer to grow before i take clones from each potential mom. I alwayz read on how u should let them go till the branches alternate before Inducing flowering...my last grow i started them before they preflowered or alternated branching, Yield was ok, but i think it was a little low considering if i would have let them veg a little longer! :) -Opt

cemchris, Thanks man...you can catch all the action right here. Feel free to take a seat, smoke some bud and strait up chill. :lurk:
Should be fun, don't know quite how its going to turn out though. Haven't been able to find much info except the breeders description, not many people have grown it i guess. :bandit:

Opt1983, did you say that you have vegged them for 12 weeks already? I don't understand....shouldn't they be massive lol? Most i have vegged a plant for indoors is 6 weeks, and that was given a major haircut before flowering.
But whatever works for you man, do what you feel is right and you can do no wrong. :joint:
As always...keep me posted. :yeahthats

Thanks for the link man..i checked it out when i was doing my research. :joint:
Those 'Fall colour' leaves are ace, Let me know how it smokes. :lurk:

Sativa3000, Hey man!
Nice to meet ya.... Thanks for the kind words, i look forward to smoking my gear with you at the cup. Just gotta wait and see what this grow brings, i hope I'll have something of my home-grown to bring along, i would love an official LGA stamp of approval. Its a shame DL will not be there as i owe him a smoke at least, I'm sure we can work something out so that he is not left out of the festivities, if you catch my drift...

Stay in touch.. :joint:

Bean, naw... not 12 weeks ive been vegging :p lol..... they are around day 32 from seed so far, i'll pry let them go for another 2 weeks, give or take....then take cuttings from each plant....root those cuttings, flower the original plants from seed, and continue to veg the cuttings until i harvest. Once i harvest i will smoke and try to find my favorite mom, veg the one that corresponds to the one i liked that smoked best, and really try to tweak out how they react to nutes so i can make the best of her. -Opt

Update....

DocLeaf, Lol...I'm sure i will be wasted, after all I'll be in Amsterdam... :chin:

Opt1983, I swear i read in one of your posts that you'd vegged them for 12 weeks now....obviously not lol. My bad. :bashhead:

Right....Ive been over my notes.. :rasta:

I gave the seedlings their first (Long over due i might add..) foliar feeding, 600mls of water that's been left to stand and 0.4mls of Alg-a-Mic. I think that if i had foliar fed them from the start, i wouldn't of lost so many (next time i know..) sprouts that dried up because i transplanted to early. Although this is not such a bad thing because best seedlings are thriving, if you cant keep up with the pack...you get left behind... :joint:

LifeSaver seedling..

The most vigorous seedling..

SourBubble & BOGbubble in the nursery..

I also prepared my flowering mix today....it may seem to early but i want to let the mix ferment so the nutrients are broken down..(Never tryed this before, let me know if you have any experiance with this.. )

The mix consists of:
Bio-Bizz Allmix soil.
Wilko's brand Fish Blood and Bone meal. (Stinky...lol)
Vintage bat guano.
Lots of Perlite.
Dolomite Lime (To be added later..)

More pics tomorrow.... :moon:

Bean, ya man, you'll want to moist the mix up a bit...and let it sit for at least 2 weeks. Like u said, u want to let the bacteria break down the nutes so they will be available to ur plants right away. I also do this since i go with a totally organic veg/flowering mix . The lime i bought when i ordered some other things i needed, but ive been told wal mart etc should carry it. if not hit up www.midwesthydroponics.com or www.wormsway.com, they ship pretty fast!

and i found out some bad news earlier, broke my heart! lol My most vigorous and most healthy plant showed me a male preflower today! im heart broken!
on the good note, 5 outta the 8 remaining plants have shown female preflowers! take care. -Opt

Here's some pics..

When do you suggest i add lime to the fermenting soil, and when i do how much per gallon?? :chin:

Belter....

Belter....

..My goals for this grow are as follows:

*To establish at least one clone mother of each strain.

*To successfully harvest enough bud to last me at least three months (5-6oz's) using the SOG method.

*To establish at least one 'Exceptional' male for use in future crosses. (Lifesaver, Bubblegum or Floater)

*To successfully pollinate and harvest Belter F1's:
(Floater x Lifesaver).
(Floater x Bubblegum).
(Floater x Sour Bubble).

*To perform a test cross with the Lifesaver male and the other females (BB, SB).

*To successfully harvest F2's (FL, LS, BB, SB) for me to back track if need be.

*To improve my skills as a grower, and also learn a few things about breeding and plant genetics.

:yummy:

This is going to be an ongoing project with the 'Belter' line, letting the strain evolve over the generations and adding new genetics and improving the line, also backcrossing exeptional phenotypes to toy with in the future. I would like this strain to represent my perfect smoke, changing with my palate as it ages. With a number of test crosses performed with the Floater and the other strains, i should find something that works well for me and gets me mashed at the same time.
More importantly I am constantly learning new things about all aspects of the herb, picking up new ways to enjoy the harvests, learning new skills as a grower and also learn a little bit about myself. After all this is going to be my signature strain, passing seeds onto anyone and everyone so they can enjoy it as much as me. Even if the line is complete sh*t, who's going to complain about a freebie any-hows...

Stay safe...Stay frosty!

Bean, hopefully you got some Dolomite lime, sounds like u did, but the hydrated lime i think it's called is not great for MJ. 2 Tablespoons of Dolomite lime to ever gallon of soil is recommended. -Opt

It doesn't say that it is dolomite lime, it just says 'Garden Lime'. I assume that if it were dolomite lime, it would say it on the box. You say hydrated lime is not good for cannabis? Forgive my ignorance but what is the difference, i have never used this stuff before. :bashhead:

Stay safe man... :sasmokin:

I'm not really sure on the differences....but im sure the stuff u have is Dolomite.... my bag of lime says "garden lime" also...so dont worry :) .... lime gives some Mg...and helps keep the PH in check, unless you use a fert that raises PH ... the lime will alwayz keep the PH at or below 7. -Opt

Hey BeAn,

This thread is getting interesting indeed... I like your Goals and I intend to follow this thread through to your results and conclusions...

I am very much looking forward to hooking up with you at the cup...It is a great shame D/L cannot attend...I am sure he will next year though...

OPT1983, Thanks man. I'm just going to roll with it for the moment, if it could be harmful to certain plants I'm sure it would say... watch this space LOL :chin:

Sativa3000, :respect: ...Tanks again for the kind words, I hope i can count on your knowledge and experience in the coming months.
I'm looking forward to having a chuff with you over in A'dam, booked my hotel the other day so im all set to go. Counting the days lol, Its going to be a shit-hot holiday.. :smoker:

Grow With BeAn...

Yesterday I transplanted the Floater's and Lifesaver's into bigger pots and put them under the HPS in the cabinet. Foliar feeding them with Alga-a-Mic and giving them a light feed of Bio-Biz Grow and 0.3ml/litre of superthrive every watering.

The most vigorous LS has a very well developed root system already, and one of the Flo's is not far behind.

The SourBubble and the 3B seedlings have been transplanted into pots and put under the fluorescents, I'm misting them every day to keep the humidity up.

The Sourbubble seedlings had the most well developed roots at this stage. As for the 3B's, the seedlings showing red stems are rooting the slowest at this stage (Possibly the BlueMoonRocks??). I only selected the most vigorous seedlings from the soil trays, it was a hard decision to make...all the seeds germinated into healthy sprouts, only minor differences influenced my decision... :joint:

Stay safe...Stay Frosty..

Yo BeAn,,, wow mon ya gonna be setting a trend, doing these lines... this will help ya get to know what genetics are good, and those aren't aren't so good.

really like your idea of an on-growing cultivar, that finds new genetics as and when she matures... we might have to run an Axe like this. it's a very good way of preserving generic traits, and ancestoral throw-backs that may not have been represented in the original cultivar... thus, so long as you roll with the punches and learn as you grow, ALL will be green :D

Lime:
Ya lime will most likely descend from down south,, follow the application guidelines on the packet (it will have soil alterations listed).
1983 has good info  It will drop pH in acidic soil (peat) with and encourage calcium/mg loving microbes (outdoor those that normally chill-out on worms)... it's all good :D...just dont over-do it!

Thanks man!

Thanks man!

I feel that this is a good way to learn the ropes, although not totally random it is still a mix of genetics at the end of the day. Selection is key and should not be biased because of lineage, if i don't know the exact strain then i can only go by the phenotype.

Using this method i hope to create something that is completely to my taste, and not to select for the name. That way i wont be tempted to pick a parent just because it is a Blueberry plant, id pick it for its blueberry flavour...do you see what I'm saying? A bit like breeding bag-seed, but you know its good genetics.

I'm growing the Sourbubble and the 3B's with no labels other than bubblegum, this will hopefully teach me more about selection and recognising traits in a population (be it small, its still a population..) Identifying which are the best parents will be purely by phenotype, whether it smokes good or if it is a vigorous male plant.

All the while notes are being kept, detailing all the little things that i notice and specific traits that i like/dislike. Records of crosses and the family tree will need a strict labeling code which I'm yet to devise, if i were labeling with the strain name beyond the F1 generation it would be a simple (Floater x Lifesaver) x (Floater x Sourbubble) for example. I was thinking more along the lines of..

Floater x Lifesaver = A-1,2,3
Floater x 3B mix = B-1,2,3 (F1,F2,F3)
Floater x Sourbubble = C-1,2,3

So...if it was (FL x LS) x (FL x 3B) it would be 'AxB F1' and the F2's would be AB2 (A x B, first generation) and so on...Does this make sense to you's??

What coding systems do you all use?? :joint:

P.S. Docleaf, Maybe we should do a Belter x SaxonAxe cross, Could be a line of its own... :chin:

Belter x Saxon Axe would make 'BATTLE AXE' for sure :dueling: lol

BeAn - what you are describing sounds like a 'Quest' for the ultimate polyhybrid,,, sounds like a bit of an adventure, and lots of fun,,,

looking forward to seeing the outcome of your little project...

All eyes on DocLeaf...see how his Axe comes out...if it is a pleasing cross it would be Fantastic to see the L.G.A. in conjunction with BeAn....Coming out with such a wonderous concept as the BATTLE AXE....gwon...!!!

Keep it Ire BeAn....
