http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=123076

im sure you will able to make an educated guess after reading it

cool man:)

Dont worry...I had already made my mind up...alot of people have had good experiences with Fems so thats why I went with them.

That being said...my next purchase will def be a pack of Regular seeds.

Reading the thread now...im already blown away...time to level up my gowing skillz haha

Thanks everyone for the info...like I said before...hopefully the Mods can this a sticky eventually so that people who have questions and to keep this discussion going.

Just my :2cents: I think it is important to protect Pure Land races.

Whats STS Rick?

its a spray that turnes females into males,,,,,it serves the same purpose as C.S or GA3,,,,,but STS is the best 1 out of the lot........

STS, GA3, CS.... all of them Reverce`s females to make them produce polen......when you hit a female with " REVERCED FEMALE POLEN"....it makes female seed,,,,, since the only chromozones involved are XX all seeds are female........regular seeds have XY chromozones the Y is the reason males show up

if you want to make your own fem seeds then use STS......but yo,,,make sure that sh1t is contained bro, you dont want sh1t polinating Landrace genetics

englishrick, If this was twitter I'd be following you! Big up your very informative discussions, they are really reinforcing my knowledge right now and allowing me to understand old tips as well as forcing me to read up on genetics a bit :)

I remember a write up of how STS worked someplace online but I've forgotten now :( Will have to google latter :)

No one has really answered why a hermie is more likely yet tho.... I guess from the other posts stress is paying a big part but why would they be less resistant to stress I know my girlfriend is on the whole tho ;) Are plants really that similar to humans lol

if you stress test your mother and find your plant is "bulletproof",,,,ie, if said plant will take high levels of stress,,,it is said to be a "true female"

some plants cant take sutch high levels of stress,,,,but all weedplants can show intersexed traits with STS,,,,,,,,,STS will not change the DNA , it just alters the expreshion ...

so if you think about it,,,its all down to the level of stress your plant can take without showing intersexed traits,,,,,

please remember that plants become intersexed in order to surrvive,,,,,1st stress test your mothers ,,,,,an then just try and help the plant, an hopefully it wont panic creating the expression of intersexed traits

its no good using fem seeds if you aint ready to stress test and keep mothers,,,,,,the variation in phenotypes are too vast,,,,,finding the 1 is what fem seeds are all about

Ah :) That makes me happier that the seeded plants I have had and thrown the cuts of where not worth keeping and was nothing to do with my equipment fails or new setup etc :)

So Rick are you saying the increase in hermies comes from bad selection of mother? Or just how to reduce the risk?

Someone was saying earlier they wonder if the future generations remember this shock I wonder if that could be why they handle stress worse bit like humans after a very traumatic episode even when considered recovered.

EDIT: Not that that makes a lot of sense, as I have no proof it passes to the offspring in humans that i can think of.

Dont listen to rick... go with regular seeds.
No offense rick, but your posts are all over the place. I can't tell if your coming or going half the time. you praise regular seeds and promote your weird idea of femming seeds. I love your enthusiasm but jesus christ man! your threads and posts are too prolix...

intersex traits are an issue!!,,, when it comes to inheritance, if the intersexed expreshion allready exists in the seedline, an then shows-up with little stress in the progrency,,time after time ,,...then yeh,,,your fuked!,,,,,,,dump the line

but....

sometimes people work from intersexed plants,, because its impossible to find clones from the same line again, an only 1 plant remains........so we need to work from intersexed plants, if only to sample them....sometimes the sample is worth working with the intersexed plant in the first place,,,,,,take Rez`s SD IBL for example,,,trust me, you wana smoke that!!!,,,,,he has made sensitivity issues 1 of his goals in his breeding project,,,,think about it bro,,,stress tested progrecny

if you dont want massive issues with selection, just go for a more stable seedlineline,,,,M/F seedlines are grate for stability.....Rez and samS have set the standard when it comes to that!.....Rez` SD IBL is M/F but displays what i would call supirior qualitys only achievable through Fem breeding practice earlyer in the line,,,,you know what im sayin bro,,,,?

everyone here has a valid point in not using FEM seeds.."the distribution that is currently happening is OFF ITS HEAD!!",,,,buy your pure lines NOW,,,,,,no sh1t!! ......only put the fem sh1t in the hand of someone you trust, thats the truth!!

im gona stop now ,,,i bet paco is getting a head ache

I just wonder when all of the vendors are going to start making fem only so they can control the need for seeds more. Just a thought that passed my mind a time or two.

You'll know that day is near when regular seeds cost more than femmed.

I always go for m/f beans myself, and up my % of females by prepping them with naturally-occuring ethylene (basically, store the beans I plan to sprout with some ripening bananas and cucumbers in a paper bag kept in the proverbial Cool Dark Place for about a week). 90% girls or better every time.

Sativa, you can make room for a mother. Keep her in the flower room until the lights go off and then put the mother some place where you can keep a small light going. If you keep your mother small, read jjscorpio bonsai. A small cfl could be used to keep the mother alive when not in the flower room. You could divide your flower room up so that you have just enough room for a mother to live too, but if you want to go perpetual you can make it bigger to support clones as well. Anything is possible. You have folks growing in a computer case. Necessity is the mother of invention.
randude I sincerely appreciate your thoughts and help.
I cannot put my mother anywhere else. I will be in an apartment with other people and I don't have anywhere I can just put a mother plant. I'm doing a stealth dresser grow with no where other than that dresser to have plants. I agree I could fit a mother plant into this cabinet and waste tons of time growing her out.. but thats the point all the time I would spend growing out the mother plant(s) would be a waste for several reasons.

1) The time it would take to successfully grow out 2 mothers then sex them it would take me to grow out 2 fem seeds and damn near harvest them and have ready smoke.
2) the extra money I spent on fem seeds would equal out with the extra 2.5 months I spent raising mother plants (electricity /soil/time/water cost)
3)I don't need a big time clone-grow anyway. it's all for personal use so no worry about not harvesting enough from cloning.

Either way I could just spent the same amount of time I would sexing 2 mothers and growing out clones (4-6 months) and put that time toward LST-ing 2 fem plants and harvesting 80+ grams off em.

I totally understand where Sativa is coming from. He can spend $100 on a ten pack of fem seeds which are enough for 5 grows and lbs of herb; more than sufficient to enough to meet personal needs if he grows continuously. Of course, he could keep a mom if he wanted to set up another light source (he doesn't) or if he wanted to move his plants on a daily basis and give up 0.5 square feet of his flower space for a bonsai mom (he doesn't). In his situation with his priorities I would probably grow fems to.

Pine

Thanks pine, randude gets what I'm saying too he just didn't exactly get the circumstances (may be my fault from poor explanation!! no need to :dueling: lets just :joint: ). Anyway that's precisely my situation. randude is right though even with my single space I could do a mother, but I would have to let her die after I used her and it would end up being no better with a bunch of clones than 2 huge LST fem plants anyway (also see the reasons above)

I've heard alot of good things about Big Buddha fem seeds. I've not heard of problems with Hermies/seeds not popping/mutants so I figure Big Buddha figured out the whole feminized seed deal.

I'm probably about to try a fem 10 pack of their Blue Cheese (they don't sell blue cheese in fem 5 packs). It will run me about 90 dollars after shipping but I can save them for future stealth grows.

My plan with fem seeds is to get the 10 pack
First grow with the fems-->
1)paper towel method with 5 seeds
2)Plant all in small cups or small pots to develop strong roots/grow up.
3) Grow them out and check past grow journals about the best phenos.
4)keep the 2 or 3 strongest, heartiest of the plants and transplant them

I could just grow out 2 at a time, for 5 grows (max if all seeds pop) and span it over a couple years but I figure I'll be tired of the taste after the first grow (maybe not)

IMO, all of the credible breeders know how to produce hermie-free femmed seeds.
The secret to femmed beans is the very same secret for regular beans...selection. And the possibility for a breeder to produce hermie-proned femmed beans is exactly the same as it is for producing hermie-proned regular seeds. A true breeder must be selected no matter if sexing naturally, or forcing sex chemically. Only when a poor selection is made will hermies be a problem. If proper selection is made, and true breeding specimens are all that are used, no matter the sex, then the progeny will exhibit the same traits, femmed or not.

Real breeders know this is true, and pollen chuckers could give a shit less. That is why we see hermies...greedy, ignorant, pollen chuckers.
