I'm employing poly hybrids, plants to homozygous are a challenge.

The line I am further along with shows the out crosses to be
in the right direction. The smell, the high and overall structure
are 9 out of 10 similar for seeds popped from 2 sets of parents from
my project.

I give seeds to other growers to use on condition I get feedback.

Strictly mids, these plants will never win any awards, but they are,
after all, my first breeding project.

Great thread!

Hi OO

I will have to read that paper. A casual glance at it seems to indicate that it is along the same vein that I follow on the topic of sexual expression in Cannabis.

Here is a post I made a few months ago along these lines, embedded in it is a link to a post I made a couple years back that goes into greater detail, with and illustrative example from human physiology.

Difficult to germinate; it´s true like strangling each other but normal cotyledons. Usually 1 stronger than the other.
I gave them some help to open with my hands.
I keep just 1 alive (both seeds), the one on the pic ,in different pots.

Someone makes a question............. everyone disappears like Houdini............thank you.

Your silence is more expressive than 1000 posts.

Follow educating the growers......

One question? Was more like half a dozen :) .
And some can't be answered unless you're a psychic... all these twin seeds got me intrigued and I was just waiting for some grow report :lurk: although it's kind of too OT (but still very interesting).

BTW there are already some threads about twin seeds though not necessarily about seeds where one can actually see that it's twins.
I'd try to see if it were a hereditary trait.
How did the female flowers (single flowers, not buds) look like? I'd guess these are actually two separate seeds but from one flower and that made them fuse.

It really depends why I wanted to save it, as I bet I have many other varieties with what ever "it" is. It is hard to answer as I seldom have to make the choice. In general I say toss the intersex, find something else, or waste a lot of time trying to eliminate intersex traits or genes, then selecting for quality. If you want to save diversity in Cannabis you need 2,000 plants to freely pollinate to save 99% of the genes in a population, are you really doing this?

The 2000 number that came from the Crossa paper is it actually correct? as I understood it that number was for monoecious samples? If you hold inbred lines the number reduces significantly, it's been a while since I read it though... found this useful : http://cropgenebank.sgrp.cgiar.org/images/file/procedures/collecting2011/Chapter5-2011.pdf

Nice paper thanks, now I have to read it all.
What book was it in?
The 2000 number was for dioecious, 1000 will assure 99% in monoecious, 95% in dioecious.
As far as I know the Crossa paper is correct. It is what we used for the VIR reproduction work.
Crossa, J. et al. 1993. Statistical genetic considerations for maintaining germ plasm collections. Theoretical and Applied Genetics 86: 673-678.

just got back let me catch up but make zero mistake about it folks,,, all of Crossa's work is based on a randomly assumed rarity of traits to be captured.. and it's relatively safe to further assume it's based on outdoor field grown cannabis... these numbers are quite easily and heavily skewed with actual rarity of traits inputs,, as well as controlled pollinations (ie 100% of individuals present,,, selected),, just an fyi,, and i think it should be there each and every time such matters are under discussion...

it doesn't really matter what I am doing or Sam is doing we account for much less than .001 of what the world is doing and wise the fuck up folks.. CANNABIS IS BRED EXACTLY LIKE STRAWBERRIES and has been for a very long time,, yes,, in california 100,000's of 100,000's of thousands of seed is planted every year and the cream rises to the top and is grown from clone... Hello? this is strawberry breeding hehehe..

G`day Tom

A small percentage of the worlds herb growers live in Cali bro .
The world doesn`t orbit around Cali ...

Think global act local .

and not that it matters it was a joke Sam,,, but both the durbans there in '95 the licorice and sensi,, as well as skunk1 from a number of vendors then,, was all a hermie nightmare here... I chalk it up to intersex traits,, like yield,, are positively correlated to environmental inputs and fall squarely under the realm of quantitative traits... To put it simply,, you do not have the facilities where you are to breed for those traits here where i am,, not simple under glass without direct manipulation of target environment.. anyway,, yes sir,, closer to strawberries than corn,, and so shall it remain.. If you want to attempt it i think it somewhat pushing rocks uphill but that's your call... It's when you tell folks they are part of the problem or the solution is where i begin to take exception,, my friend..

Elmer this is the news worldwide,, this is the big picture from the sky my friend,, if there are folks who do it differently i assure you,, they are an exception,, an absolute minority living in the past..

Well I`ll believe it when I see it .

Like the DNA sequencing and petri dish clones you and Chimera were feeling so pleased with yourselves about a cpl of years ago .

I want to believe Tom .

Big problem I see is lack of diversity . One disease to kill em all .

Thanks for sharin

you corrected finally your seeking out intersex to include the most important factor,, observe the progeny.. All i am asking is that you do the same in the reverse... And being that we breed cannabis (drug cannabis) like strawberries anyway said previous comment (u r part of the problem) is borderline blasphemy,, in my opinion..

The mere mention of the king`s name and I`m a devotee ?
You are 180 degrees off target there .
Presumptuous ?

I asked about late flowering males . Never involved Sam in my conversation . Maybe just decaff for you eh ?

Well I`d be the best judge of what I`m prepared for wouldn`t you think ?
And as you do not know me ...

You and Chimera were gonna bust all the myths re lineages . And micro prop was gonna leave all other methods in its wake .

More than two years Tom . Were you premature with your boasting ?

I`m keen to see your theories put into practice . Till I do, your just another guy using up bytes spruiking .

Thanks for sharin
