I'm looking at Bangi Haze vs. Malawi, my first Ace Sativa.

Need one that finishes in 11 weeks.
I grew both Bangi Haze and Malawi (fem) last year and I'm glad I did. I still have quite a bit left over. They both were grown outdoors in a subtropical zone...so the flowering is a little longer than inside maybe. But the two Bangi Haze I grew finished right at 12 weeks on the nose. Each branch had to be individually staked because the weight of the bud. Absolutely stellar bud. Sativa high...but a more mellow one because of the Indica influence.

The Malawi took around 14 weeks to finish. It is stellar also. Absolute fire.

This was my first time with Ace seeds and was highly satisfied with the outcome.

It can be a bit dense at first and defies my capacity for a simple explanation but I recommend research into red light photoreceptors and in particular Phytochrome and its role in all stages of growth in photoperiod plants, not least in the commencement and progression of flowering.

Here is a piece that concentrates more on veg growth but it's very useful.

Thanks for the link! I've looked into this a fair bit, including the Emerson effect. The effects of light spectrum on plant morphology are super interesting to me. I was aware that far red spectrum can help plants adjust to the day/night cycle faster. Some growers can even use a 13 hour light cycle in conjunction with far red, to increase their DLI during flower. I was just absolutely blown away with the transition from 15-16 weeks down to a solid 12 weeks. In most tests, you are lucky to knock a full week off from flower, but 3?! My guess is that because it has the strong equatorial sativa genetics, it has to rely more on the spectrum to adjust to flower than the hours. Typically it was 4 full weeks before you started to see pistols on this pheno, and I saw them at the end of week 2. It was way more than I expected. And the other strains I had growing with it, did not show the same results. They were more modern hybrids of hybrids.

I have a full run of new phenos going now, we are in about week 6 of flower, looking like they are all gonna be closer to the 10 week pheno we used to run. I've already picked 2 favorites, and once they all finish and I can have them lab tested, I will start another run with my new pheno! They are all doing great though, no weaklings in the pack.

I have a scientific paper written maybe 10 years ago by a US University team that deals specifically with the role of FR/FFR in the inducement and maintenance of flowering in cannabis ... but it is on a driver in a computer with broken hardware. I won't have access unti I score a new PC and install my existing hard disk.

I tried searching online for the paper the other day but couldn't locate it, so I posted the best piece I could quickly find in my
original post.

As soon as I have access again to the paper on flowering I'll be sure to share it widely, starting here.

Peace

I made a selection last year on regular Bangi haze. The plants looks all the same, excellent uniformity. Excellent weed, i really enjoy this sativa high, and it’s became my wife’s favorite. Unfortunately spider mites this winter forced me to kill my mother plants.
At the start of the year, I gave a try to a feminized seed I got. Here she is, 11 liters pot, 50 days since 12/12, needs 3 more weeks I think.

Little to no stretch, so I couldn’t fill my screen. Gonna veg her longer next time. This sativa is really easily manageable for small space as mine.

I decided to give her a try outdoor this year. I think it could increase the terpenic profile. Took a clone on her for that.

Just received panama x bangi haze yesterday. Allready germinating, I hope for a better yielder with this unique terpenic profile from bangi haze.

Despite seedlings can show some purple colors, Bangi Haze flowers rarely finish with purple colors or intense pigmentation, i consider Bangi Haze a green strain.

Welcome Proleterre :) and thanks a lot for your feedback on Bangi Haze, much appreciated, glad it became your wife's favorite. Your latest Bangi Haze girl from fem seed has the look i like with those super thin and long, elegant Congolese sativa pistils. Next time increase nutrients in the pot and feeding during flowering so the plant reaches end of flowering with not such severe yellowing.

Sorry to hear you had to kill your Bangi Haze mothers because of pests, but as you experienced the strain is quite a uniform after all these years of breeding, and we still use exactly same parent plants to produce both regular and fem versions for almost a decade, so you can expect very similar outcome than in your previous experiences if you grow and select from more seeds (once gardens are fully clean of pests!).
And glad you got the Panama x Bangi Haze ;) If you like BH you are going to love the F1 with Panama Goddess. In my opinion and from the grower's point of view, Panama x Bangi Haze is better than straight Bangi Haze.

Sorry to hear you lost some good plants to those bastards. I’ve had really good luck on spider mites using the Dr. Zymes spray. It completely wiped out the spider mite population that is usually infesting my datura plants by this time of year. The last 3 years I’ve gone after them with every other product on the market without success. This year as soon as they appeared I did a few sprays of the Dr Zymes and none of come back. 🤞
I’ve only had one plant, a Zamaldelica x KaliChina that showed a sensitivity to it, definitely use it right at lights off and let it dry in the dark.

Vape report on the 2 outdoor winter grown Bangi Haze - they are fairly similar so this is a :joint: report.

I had a session on one yesterday and another session on the other today - my usual post siesta session followed by activity - housework, gardening, swimming, walking. I need to start using smaller amounts in the volcano - I use a standard amount for me but if I'm with someone and we share it I get just as high!

Both were very motivating/feel good and creative but they both gave me moments of light headedness - quite scary when you're walking through town to get to the beach! Some of it is down to a bit of a stiff neck/shoulder but some is down to high THC I think (and too large a dose). This feeling always goes away once I'm in the water though.

Now that I've had 2 healthy plants of this variety and have another beauty close to harvest I'd be very happy to grow it again - probably as a guest fem rather than a main grow but a thumbs up for Bangi Haze fems from both the gardener's and the consumer's point of view (y)
