#3 is the strangest plant in the garden this year. 5 1/2 feet tall and like 8 feet wide.Has odd branches that grow straight out and dip downward. Heavy secondary branching. The branches don’t really form colas so much as they do small upright flower clusters. The structure looks like a disorganized mess, yet the plant is productive -

The underside of the sugar leaves shows red veins like Swiss chard -

The flowers have a very floral laundry freshener scent, although dried trim is starting to smell like cedar. Quite sticky -

The fading leaves are very colorful -

Smoke is mildly uplifting with some euphoric effects.

Figured it’s time for an update. Sholgar looking solid after 12 days in the ground. Haven’t had many warm or sunny days yet as opposed last year, yet they are right at the same height the Tirah were at this time (and the Tirah grew into 15 footers). Sholgar 1 is red-stemmed and the others green.
if you made seeds from those people would kill for them in trade or barter. beautiful shades of green with the red stems.

More update: here is Sholgar 1, close to the finish but just not seeing any amber trichs yet although 95% are cloudy. Nice plant, 6’3” tall, only mildly susceptible to rot. Really looking forward to this strain for both flower and hash; smoke samples from cutting rot margins have produced a potent buzz that is calming but with an uplifting effect too. Not quite as narcotic as Balkhi. Smoke is relatively tasty even with a piss-poor two day rapid drying out via mini-dehumidifier in confined space, after being doused in straight 3% peroxide
Beautiful display - thanks for the view as always friend! I didn’t get amber trichomes with either run (indoor/outdoor). It made for an amazing stone that didn’t impart any narcotic heaviness. Healthy harvest p59!

Thanks H. Hanzo! Took the two Sholgar down this past weekend. It was time; they were heading into senescence as shown by the browning of sugar leaf tips.

This strain is a keeper: very resinous and sticky, good yielding and produces nice colas that aren’t as susceptible to rot as I expected they’d be. I’m hoping once cured the flower smokes a bit smoother than it does now, but most of it will become hash anyway. Nice effects from the smoke and finger hash; relaxing but not knockout.

Here are the plants right before chop -

The Rustam Kush are all still going. They are susceptible to botrytis, and that combined with a late start into flowering has kept me busy trying to get them deeper into the season. Had to chop the top off the 10’ purple one today -

This strain is super sticky, still has the floral laundry freshener scent thing going on that is getting gassy. Would love to get them through a couple more weeks, with some cool nights - but we will see. Here are some more flower pics -

@p59teitel mouthing watering hash plants you have there friend! I quite enjoyed the flower alone but when I made some ice water (bubble) hash from it - Ou wee! Powerful hash indeed. I’m happy you get to experience that cultivar & am even more thrilled that you decided to keep it in your stable! Good show!

Sholgar is dried and 10 oz. went into jars yesterday. The rest will be hung in the garage to dry and await dry-sifting for hash this winter. Trim samples are fairly potent, similar to Balkhi in effect although not as couch-lock inducing. The smoke is a bit harsh and I’m hoping the flower smooths out during cure -

Took the Rustam Kush down last week. This strain didn’t really get into flowering until late August. It has some susceptibility to botrytis - I ended up whittling a bit off of them, although it did respond pretty well to light peroxide sprays and I’m sure I could have cut the losses in half if I’d stayed on top of things better.

First down was #5. Nice plant, Christmas tree structure that topped out at 7.5 feet. Flowers are very firm, resinous and have a floral laundry freshener scent -

Just getting around to posting again about the last two Rustam Kush.

Rustam Kush 2 came down on November 10th. This one lost probably 25% to rot, but better management on my part would have cut that in half at least. It was almost black by the time I chopped her -

Very colorful flowers on Chop Day -

After about 8 days of drying and a week in the jar they still retained quite a bit of color -

The smell that initially was floral and almost like a laundry freshener has gotten more diesel-like as it cures. It’s a bit early to talk about flower effects conclusively, but it is fairly potent and uplifting rather than couch lock. Of course some of that may be due to the trichomes not hitting amber -

Last was Rustam Kush 4, taken down November 11th. This was the plant that had the massive fat leaves. It topped out around 8.5 feet. Nice structure and healthy plant, just very slow to flower -

14FA1FA3-644F-4373-B138-31462043ED9D.jpeg

The flower from this plant retained a ton of moisture and took two weeks of drying before I could jar some of it. While it was sticky it doesn’t have a strong odor. I sampled a small amount and it was racier than I like so I’ll leave it to cure for a couple months before trying again. Colas were well-formed and flowers pretty dense -

I’ll post flower smoke reports here once they all age a bit, and eventually will do hash reports as well. Initial conclusions are that both strains are worthwhile and I would grow them again. The Sholgar finished reasonably quickly here at 42N, and while the Rustam Kush was much slower the seed branches I left on and collected last week showed no signs of frost damage, despite temps getting down to 28 degrees F. Speaking of which, the Rustam Kush repro seeds are pretty good-sized:

I love your Afghan growing efforts., you seem to have a real handle on what these beasts require to stay healthy. Your soil must be pretty good, it looks like you amended with bio-char? Anyways great work man, we all appreciate the photos and growth documentation. There is a guy in Afghanistan that sells seeds through whatsap, his stuff looks similar, if I ever get hip to how to use this app, I might get some and attempt a little garden of Afghanicas myself!

Thanks. Every couple of years I burn brush on the garden and that adds some ash and charcoal to the soil. I also amend the soil in the holes with peat moss and manure in the spring, and top dress a few times with worm castings as well.
