Baaba Qo Selections

Figured I’d start a thread on this seed source. Baaba Qo is an Afghan seed collector who offers seeds from all over northern Afghanistan. He has relationships with elderly farmers and hash masters who use traditional farming and hash production methods to produce some of the finest hashish in the world. He previously was one of the two collectors under the Afghan Selection name. He documents local farming, production and use on Instagram as baaba879 by posting pics and video. For those concerned about such things, unlike some other Afghan seed collectors he does not acquire seeds from farmers who pay off the Taliban to stay in business.

I’m running his Sholgar and Rustam Kush outdoors this year. Started 5 seeds of each on April 1, and went 9 for 10 so very happy with that. They will go into the ground mid-May. The Sholgar are in the right-hand row and the Rustam Kush the middle row.

Hope to hear from anyone else who has run his or Afghan Selections’ lines.

Afghan Selection has closed? How to get Baabas Selections?

Thank You
I don’t think they have closed, but Baaba has his own brand out there now. His seeds are listed for sale at this site as well as Pure Sativa and several others:

Figured it’s time for an update. Sholgar looking solid after 12 days in the ground. Haven’t had many warm or sunny days yet as opposed last year, yet they are right at the same height the Tirah were at this time (and the Tirah grew into 15 footers). Sholgar 1 is red-stemmed and the others green.

The Rustam Kush are doing well too. They are running smaller than the Sholgar and there’s some clawing going on so I’ll cut back on nitrogen. Female preflowers on four so far; no. 4 still has extra fat leaves -

Have seen some solid growth in both the Sholgar and Rustam Kush the past couple of weeks - some height and a lot of new branching action. They got a shot of worm castings a week ago; they went very dark green and I suspect the next time I top-dress won’t be for a couple more weeks, if they even need anything more by then. Sholgar 1 and 3 and Rustam Kush 2, 3, 4 and 5 have shown female pre-flowers.

Sholgar 1 is slightly over 4 feet, the baby of the bunch. Compact, red-stemmed with thin leaves -

Sholgar 2 has yet to declare, tall and lanky, moderate leaves, 5 feet -

Sholgar 3 is a 5 footer with moderate leaves and branching, and is ahead of all the others in terms of flowering -

Sholgar 4 is a beast, 5 and a half feet, long branches, hasn’t declared -

Rustam Kush 4 is the most unique plant in the garden this year; she has huge thick leaves, extra-thick main stem, just over 5 feet, check out the weird branch coming out of a leaf -

And that’s all, folks! Pest-wise I’ve seen some caterpillars so am applying B.t. - no borers just leaf-eaters, but I’m not letting anyone get a foothold. There’s been occasional powdery mildew that so far I’ve been able to stay on top of by just wiping it off with peroxide. Have a lot of leafhoppers but they aren’t enough of a problem to warrant using spinosad. Overall I’d say both strains are hardy with some interesting variation in phenotype. Although none showing yet I would like at least one male of each to do seed repros; if not then if there’s anyone else out there growing these strains who gets boys, shoot me a DM!

Sholgar.

S8: Chinese Pistache with a spring cut grass back. Carries as a creamy hashish motor oil on the exhale. Sugary, sticky, tiny Trichomes. Dense bulbous flower clusters, short height and compact internodal distance that disappears entirely after her initial bolt to form cobs. 10 week bloom.

S7: Humid Prairie before a spring rain with a slightly ammoniated back. Carries as a faint hashish on the exhale. Sticky, oily, tiny Trichomes. Dense bulbous flower clusters, short height and compact internodal distance that disappears entirely after her initial bolt to form cobs. 11 week bloom.

S4: Henbit sweet with a spring cut grass back. Carries as a floral creamy hashish on the exhale. Sugary, sticky, tiny Trichomes. Dense bulbous flower clusters, short height and compact internodal distance that disappears entirely after her initial bolt to form cobs. 10 week bloom.

All three sisters are incredibly identical plants that begin to put on weight early in bloom and continually build stopping within the final few weeks of senesce. A deep, rich terpene profile that coats the senses and carries a few post breaths. S8 being the most Psychoactive and holding the highest trichome density and terpenoid production.

A powerful meditative stone (at any dose), starts at the extremities and slowly moves inward bringing the mind to a deep stillness, introspective, long-running thoughts (free of anxiety, panic or paranoia), impairs sense of urgency (time sensitive task may suffer), relieves pains and aches without imposing any narcotic heaviness of the body. No brain fog, couch lock or crash. Battles loss of appetite beautifully (without causing ‘munchie’ binge eating). Gradual sensory stimulation with an amazing duration that ends in an undetectable come down. Does not negatively impact REM (dream) sleep cycle.

They look great both indoors and outside. Assume the described smoke descriptions are the three indoor girls, how is the outdoor one? And glad to hear of the 10-11 week flower time, I can get away with that where I am (42N, SE Massachusetts, USA).
Thank you for the kind words. Yes, the S8 was the outdoor female and the indoor description holds true but no ‘spring cut grass’ all Chinese Pistache.

I didn’t save any cuttings past the second run because all females were susceptible to Botrytis (bud rot). I did the outdoor run as confirmation and didn’t give a drop of water to either of those plants. Neither of the males were effected in the slightest by the Botrytis and displayed incredible healthy vigor in both biomass and root development.

Sholgar absolutely aced all other torture trails and with such an amazingly strong stone (lasting 3-4 hours) and unique terpene profile I did the seed increase to keep this line indefinitely. The males are the jewels of this line in my experience. I will continue to use selective breeding to achieve a higher resistance to Botrytis on the female side.

Thanks for the info. Botrytis can be a challenge here with the usually wet fall season, although I have to say the Sholgar I have going are doing well against PM. So I’ll be extra watchful during flower. My biggest plant of the four now in the ground by far is a male, over 6 feet and quite wide too. The other male - that I’ve already topped to collect pollen - was close to 6 feet and quite columnar in structure. The two females are dissimilar as well - one is short and stout, and the other taller and more rangy (although I screwed up and topped her by mistake the other day when I intended to top the male and wasn’t paying attention).
