Dang guys,,, I underestimated how big these auto AK47's were going to get outdoors. I was thinking they'd max out at around 24"s or so, but I bet they're close to that tall now! Guessing on a mid-late July harvest, so I have some time left, and I'm already struggling to keep them in the can.... Tomorrow I'm going to rig up something with fishing weights and fishing line to try and keep them down. Hell, I only fed them once!!LOL Any guesses on how much taller I should expect them to get?

Nice ladies. They're really kicking into flowering so some of the stretch should be slowing down. Maybe another 3-6" probably.

Thanks Bluestreak. This morning I gently leaned them over and weighted them down with weights and fishing line. Hasn't seemed to have phased them so far, but it's only been several hours.... Biggest thing I don't like is, the way I have them leaning makes the lower branches cramped for space.... I can handle another 3-6 inches of growth with them leaning like I have them now.... They probably aren't as happy as they were standing straight up, but leaning them was something I had to do unfortunately...... The autos grow hella fast!!!LOL They've grown quite a bit since my last pictures, but since I've leaned them over, you may not be able to tell when I post new pics. I plan on leaving them alone now, and hope they do ok..... Hopefully I don't have to do any more tying down...
Bluestreakjon, Tokerofthesouth, and you other guys/girls with auto experience, what would be a slightly shorter strain that would stay in the can better??? Bluestreak???? Auto Blueberry??? Looking for some suggestions. The trash can idea seems to be working great, but after I go through my other 3 Auto AK seeds, I'd like to get some seeds for a shorter strain... That way if I use the trash can idea again, I wouldn't have to "lean" the plants... Looking for something that won't get taller than maybe 15-18 inches... It would be one smooth little operation if I didn't have to lean them to stay in the can!!!! I can't complain though. Most expensive part of the grow was the seeds..... Other than that, I'm only around 27 bucks into it.. Got the trash can for 7 dollars on craigslist, 20 dollars for the soil..... I did buy some tiger bloom for another 20 dollars, but overall it's about as cheap as you can go for growing a couple little plants......

Well dude, the first ever pack of AF I grew was LL auto Ak47. They stayed small like under 9". The only suggestion I could make is you got some potent seeds for AF or they're stretching due to light.
Can't really say. But the ones I've grown I tryed to provide 2x the light really but still ended up relatively small plants?!? Maybe its me or the plants? But I will say the harvest I made off the ak47 was pineish taste.

Thanks man. I don't think they're stretching much for lack of light. They get quite a bit of good sunlight... My seeds were LL too. Don't wanna jinx myself, but it's starting to look pretty out there!LMAO Besides what's in the trash can, my zukes and peppers are looking great! My neighbor likes the bigger zukes, so I gave him a couple today.. We'll see what comes of it...
On the Auto AK smoke, you say it tastes like pine? Effect??

The LL AK that just got chopped all 3 were over 3Ft. The 1 main cola was about 12in long and 2.5in thick. Cant really give a great smoke report as im curing now....so far it has a somewhat sweet taste and smell.

I consider that smoke a general LR dominent plant. I've grown some smoked plenty of others and to me piney minty smell is LR smell. You'll catch a buzz but but dont expect it to be all that.

Picture update. I can't complain too much.. The wire clothes hangers you see in the can aren't serving a purpose anymore. They didn't work out like I wanted, so I used a 20 ounce fishing sinker and some 8 lb mono fishing line to lean each plant over slightly..... They don't seem to have grown much "vertically" in the past few days(which is good given my situation), but they're still full of life and seem to be bushing up some.

Thanks Keat... I'm going to do a second run with a couple of the remaining seeds after I'm done with this one.. Now that I see how these things grow, I know what I can do to make this trash can idea better next go around.. Thanks for everyone's comments. Folks on this site have been very helpful to me.

Just letting you guys know, my first thread might be a disappointment.=( Don't really know what else I can do to keep them from growing out of the can this late in the game... They still seem to be growing taller every day. It's a shame too.... Besides one leaf tip, and two little rust looking spots, they look great! They're really doing their thing. Seems like every day they are packing on more growth. Definitely not stretching, because they're filling out quite nicely.... What a shame!!!! Maybe I can still make it work, but with this rate of growth, there might not be a way for me to contain them with 36-37 days left... This thread has had a few hits, so I hope I don't have to let anybody down..... I really appreciate the ones who commented for the support and advice... Worst case scenario, I cut them, change soil, plant 2 of the remaining seeds, and use lst to keep them down.

Well, if you find the right phenos you might get rid of the ruderalis taste.

Well in my opinion there are a couple of strains were these phenos have been found. From the Autos I have grown, my favourites has been the HBD, Blues streak and Purple Mazar. In the Purple Mazars i didnt find any of the "LR" taste that you describe, just a lovley original Afghan tast and a mean potency. The best phenos of Blue streak and HBD are also very good, almost like eating a spoon of Jam... The potency question is no longer an issue for me with Autos either, i find the new strains to be way up there both in potency and how long lasting the high is..
But like with any strain, auto or not there are always better and less good phenos.

it dont take much light to veg a plant, i think your going to end up with about 5-8 grams on theese when all is said n done via the budd faze though, imo better u just spend the 100 bucks and buy 5 grams and save the 70 days messin with this type of project but alot of people take offense to this type of thinking. i hope it goes well for u and i hope u pull 3-4 times my guess,, i just dont see it.
