one of my hybrids (cherry bomb X red leb)....coming into maturity

so quick question out to the more experienced growers
I have 3 of these plants, all approx same size and maturity

im contemplating as another experiment...on just 1 of my 3 plants
to lop off the top cola, seal stem, and let her finish off the season.
why ??.....to see if this operation will result in bulkier lower branches
i realize its late in the season, but there may be another 3 weeks or more to grow yet
depending on how late frost will be this year
plant is over 7' tall and branchy

so what are your thoughts on that guys ??
what do you think ? (me, ive only been growing outside 2nd yr now)
and this is just a hunch i have....is there any merit to it ??

thanks....see plant below

When I have lots in the ground, I harvest in three phases. On the 1st pass I collect colas and do a good fan leaf defoliation. Just the big stuff gets picked. It's about weight and the best nugs at this point (and speed). I'll return for the smaller side branches oover the next 2 weeks. Lastly, if the weather hasn't frozen over, I do one last run for the small stuff. That said, I've been out well after a couple freezing night to clean up the popcorn. I find most buds do well in the cold.

It's always a sad day when I'm done harvesting.

That thing was only 12 inches high a few months ago !

Cookie Cross x Jack Herer.

/\ Blueberry Headband cross

\/ Chem x Apollo 11 cross.

Flowering started about August 10 for the last 2, so in the next day or 2 they'll be @ 5 weeks.

The Jack Herer offspring is a little un-predictable. I predict she'll get bigger ?

Watering is a combination of straight water - some days - and water mixed with organic nutes (chicken manure, wood ash, and good old fashioned U.R.I.N.E. for Nitrogen ) other days.

thanks tyco, for the response

so am i correct to think that side branching nugs may bulk up
with the top cola missing ??.....i mean given only 3 weeks to go
maybe 4 at best.....these plants have anthocyanins as well both sides of their genetics by mom and dad
and should start to turn a red/purple in tones here or there
only mother nature knows what she has in store at full maturity

so i do wish to leave well enough alone until after frost
to see what colorful palette of colors my new hybrid has to offer
at full maturity after frost

but doesnt mean i cant start pinching some here or there now
like im also concerned about the plants starting to get top heavy
bend over and snap....i dunno, never grew a plant this big yet

my theory is that with the top cola removed, nutrients will be diverted to all side branches,
which may help bulk up all the developing nugs...over the next 3-4 weeks

i might be tempted to take off 2 cola tops off 2 plants, but totally leave the 3rd alone, until after frost....

then all 3 plants (side branches could be compared to each other)
and visually see any differences it will or will not make
with the main cola removed from top of plant(s)

to me its just another trial and error experiment
based on advise of others more experienced

Taking the tops will divert energy to the remaining colas/buds.

Pinching in veg creates more branching. But pinching in flower boosts flowers already formed.

Many people do exactly what you want to do.

thank you so much my friend, appreciate it ...
thats my plan then, top 2, leave 3rd alone
do side branch comparisons after harvest (frost)

how is your grows going tycho ??

Lots of experiments this year, and I never have high hopes for that. lol. Still, the odd one goes ballistic.

I put out almost 400 seed bombs in different spots this year hoping for a 10% return. So far it's a 100% failure. If we had had a little rain in June (had none) it may have been better. Seed bombs are a good concept, but up north, it's a hard go because you have to put them out *very early in the spring. They can germinate, but frost kills the seedlings. So putting them out in the mid west might be better. I put some in drainage ditches between corn and soy fields, but the weeds just overtake and swallow them. Nice idea, and it works with wild flowers, but it doesn't work with weed. They're just not robust enough against mother nature. At least not up here.

I tried 50ml peat pellets this year thinking they'd be awesome because last year I used the small pellets and they rocked. But the big pellets are really hard on the seedlings. Probably because they hold too much water and don't leave much room to oxygenate the roots. I'm moving back to the small ones next year.

I have a crop of Honduran I put out that is rocking it. The ones in my yard are a real surprise because I used them as mothers for about 100 clones so there's tons of branching. They looked so bad I was going to compost them but decided to put them in the ground anyway. God damn if they're not my best plants this year. I reversed them so I got a lot of fem pollen out of them and I'll have loads of fem seeds.

I grew out some Freakshow this year. Strictly a novelty plant, but fun to grow. I might try them again next year. Not sure yet. But they're a great conversation plant. Most people didn't know it was weed. :D

I have 50 odd Boreal Lights that is a great smoke, produce reliably and are hard to mess up. Plant them and forget them.

Overall I spent way too much energy with these frigging experiments. I'm not doing any next year. lol

The regular ones have 72 in a tray
jiffy-greenhouse.jpg

You can buy them by the case.
Jiffy_2fe44219-8dfc-4345-9d5b-a9730d89fb5c_1200x1200.jpg

Easy to transport without spilling soil everywhere. I take them out of the tray and stuff them in a box on top of each other 3 or 4 deep (carefully).
