Thought I was all clever starting my plants in a grow tent in the (attached) garage at the beginning of April... came downstairs yesterday morning and daaaaamn did it stink. Hoping the next few nights will be the coldest yet to come so I can move the whole shebang out to an unheated outbuilding before the Missus strangles me. LEDs which don't create that much heat, but I could reattach the ballast to the light to provide some heat, and I already have it set up to have the lights on overnight.

This morning was better, thinking perhaps leaving the heat on at night encouraged any loose odors to go out through cracks in the garage doors rather than seeping into the rest of the house. Did some watering this morning, I think it might be the Sour Boggle that stinks to high heaven.

Well I'm growing an early crop of bruises. I rolled my atv today. The steering was a little wonky the last week. I should have investigated. A wheel let go at about 30mph on a gravel road.

30 mph? You sure it wasn't 60mph? We won't tell.

Time to relax and heal. :comfort:

I'm getting the evil eye for starting early too. lol

If I was 20? Ya. Pedal to the metal. But those days are way behind me. I was just out on a leisurely tour checking out a couple possible small 5-10 plant seed run spots.

Wow this looks awesome!! The structure is really nice, I'd imagine it would have the potential to be extremely tall

Liltree: yes... this is sort of a experiment, this is a landrace sativa and she's flowering with increasing photoperiod, so wanted help entering flower with restricted root space to hopefully encourage her to engage in flowering fast.

I'd say it worked  otherwise she would be stretching still...

she stopped stretching and looked rather uneasy, was obvious she wanted new shoes!

This is coco, hence the "ridiculous" pot size and the repot to one being just 35-40% bigger than previous... I'm getting the hang of coco outdoors this year... I found you need to think "soil-like" regarding to pot size, wet/dry cycles when outdoors and not so "hydro".

She's fattening up as each day passes, hope the repot will encourage her to fatten up even more. Beautiful Purple starting to appear on budsites:

Here's my Purple Maroc's 7 weeks from seed

This one was the fastest of the two but has been slower to respond to topping.
picture.php

This one has branched out a lot quicker after topping and has a more pungent aroma.

I stated some autos too but not much to report on them yet other than a slug/snail ate on of the first set of leaves off of one... contemplating giving up on that one and starting again, but being a tight arse I'm gonna give it a few days to see what happens before wasting a seed.

Damn 60 mph gusts knocked my plants over 3 times today and bam straight down pours! So much for a easy harden off period haha!!

Shall have them in the ground this weekend, going to need to cage them up and start training asap if this wind keeps up

Bury them deep when you transplant. It will help them in strong winds.

Peace GG

Nice experiment. We still use 'Indica' and 'Sativa', I wonder what the Middle Eastern strains, for instance Sinai, Syrian, Turkish, Lebanese, really are. My guess is that they're not from India, or at least not predominately. Definitely not Afghans. My guess is they were bred from hemp stock a very long time ago. Pre-Islam even, back into Roman times. At one point they may have been used for seed, hemp, and hashish.

One reason I think this is the photo-sensitivity. I had my Sinai males go into full flowering April-June. Never snapped out of it. Your plant for instance, a seedling of a normal Indica, by which I mean a drug strain descending from Indian including Afghan stock, wouldn't go full on flower like that. They're the first plants in the garden in late July/early August to go full flower.

I found the Sinai started flowering late July, still finished around Oct 1. The long flowering time may come from it's southern roots. I'm interested in how many weeks the Lebanese will take.

Here's some of my stuff, loving the humid sunny/rainy April weather. First a Black Cherry Garlic.

The weather has been so mild, I could have started a week sooner. As is I'm right on schedule, maybe start sticking them in their holes early next week. I love this stage of life, the growth rate is shocking. Every day they look bigger.

I finally found a volunteer, only one. The slugs had mauled it, chewed off one side of it and all the new leaf tips. Sucks but I wrapped copper around it, hopefully it'll keep the slugs off until it gets big enough to fend for itself.

Are (black) ants a problem for outdoor plants in the ground?

I was adding a top dressing at my site today and removing the cages and noticed a fair amount of ants.. I'm growing in holes I dug in old mining waste ie very rocky so they are probably loving my imported soil. I don't wanna be heavy handed if they are not a problem... Feel bad enough using the slug pellets.

Cheers Eggy

Ants love acidic soil.

Get them out of there!
- Raise the PH in the soil (if you can).

- Pour a can of coke 6 feet away. They'll move to there. Add ant killer if you have it.

- Add 1 cup of water to 1/2 cup of Hydrogen Peroxide to the soil (water the soil. don't get it on the leaves). You'll kill any fungus the ants might have brought home (causes root rot).

- You can spray the plants with 1/20 (h2o2/water) once to kill anything on it.

Hey Big Eggy,
I’m really enjoying watching your Purple Marocs bursting out of the starter’s gate, I’ve got a feeling they’re going to get really big really quickly especially if you can somehow break up the native soil around your plants, to alow for root development, with say a garden fork or broad fork and top dress with seed meals or blood and bone.
I had a similar grow once where l would carry in a day pack of compost or manure every couple of days and spend one or two minutes breaking up the heavy clay soil with a little (toy) gardening fork. It really is amazing how much you can achieve in seven or eight minutes a week.
As for your ants.....some ants are adversaries, detrimental to your plants because they can farm aphids or scale, eating the sticky excretions and protecting their “herd” veraciously against predators. If you can get rid of the ants you’ll get rid of the aphids. Others are allies, eating pests and patrolling your plants with the precision of a military operation. I guess what I’m saying is.....identify the species and go from there.
I’ve taken different specimens into the local museum over the years and have had them identified by the entomologist. With a good cover story you can open a dialogue and learn a lot in five minutes.
Well done with those snails, I’ve found a ring of hydrated lime works well too, they won’t cross it and don’t let your guard down on them, they can girdle a big plant’s stem and eat into the cambium layer when they’re in the numbers you seem to have.
Loving the grow, takes me back,
Cheers,
40

Hi T.:) Was told a few months back that Hydrogen Peroxide works with gnats as well.Managed to finish indoors without having to use any, but :),outdoors is a different world
Soaked perlite in the solution you suggested, a tip I got, and for an extra precaution,I added the "chicken wire",to see and protect seedlings from bugs of any kind,I hope
Don't know what the strains are, sativa hybrids most propably, and, still remains an experiment since damping soil(indoor grow) into my garden produced these three
