I have some hellatious sleep disorder that started as simple insomnia as a child & morphed into something much worse. My whole circadian rhythm is backwards & has been since I was about 12 years old. I can drug myself to sleep at night but I cannot stay awake an entire day no matter what I'm doing or what stimulant I take to stay alert. A strong fatigue & weakness comes over me & I have to take a nap. (I can't sleep in loud or uncomfortable conditions like most narcoleptics, but the daytime sleepiness is uncanny). Any time I try to stay awake during the afternoon I just feel cranky & miserable and end up in an argument with someone due to the moodiness.
Need a sleep study but no insurance now. Blah. My psychiatrist can't figure it out & doesn't think it's linked to depression or my meds and neither do I since it's gone on long before I was on any psych meds. Just feels like I'm wasting my life, ya know? I'm in my mid 30s & feel 80. If you name a supplement, chances are I've tried it to no avail. I need the harder stuff to even stay alert. Provigil (modafinil) wasn't even strong enough to take away the fatigue back in college. Weed & CBD only increase the tiredness so I save them for evenings & nights, which of course they don't knock me out then, lol.
