Been awhile since I updated this thread. I'll get pics when the lights come tonight.

Ortega seems to be a great parent. It's been used with many strains os progenitor including Legends Ultimate Indica

===============

Spice of Life Seeds : Legends Ultimate Indica
The "LegendsUltimate Indica" is a combination of our two most favorite indica's. This F1 hybrid was mothered by a previously unreleased Ortega plant from California. The Ortega's heavy indica traits shone through with its' tight buds and extremely stoney finish.

The father, a second backcross Sweet Tooth from Spice of Life Seeds, adds the sweet and pungent flavor Breeder Steve strains are know for.

But I cant find the actual pure seeds anywhere on the net. Everyone says sold out.

Mine were given to me by a former OG moderator

Bud, plant, and room shots from week seven. Not a whole lot to comment on except they received the last feeding two days ago, 2 pts 5-30-5 and 1 pt 10-15-10 to take them to the finish line. This has always been adequate feeding amounts in the past, but these girls are showing pretty significant nute burn in the leaf fingertips. I'm betting they uptake less nutes when using 1/2 the light, so I'll have to compensate accordingly. Tell you what, the buds are no less dense than ever before.

Mites!

I have spider mites! Days from harvest and I discovered one leaf covered with spots. Inspection the underside revealed one little bastard and some young. I found another one on more one other leaf and removed that plant from the garden. I CAREFULLY inspected the rest and found none, but the leaf they had gotten too was covered almost overnight, so I'm sure they have spread.

I'll harvst the SC beforte anything bad happens, but I may have to kill the Ortega also. They might be too big to get em all. The restr of the little ones in my room I think I can cover due to their size, but the last time I had these fuckin things, I eventually had to shut the entire room down. This time it appears I caught them early, so we will see. I'm tempted to kill it all right now just to be safe.

That god damn cat got in here again, somehow......

ah shit mites!

ah shit mites!

The scourge of the grow room! I've just done a long battle with them, Cap. This close to harvest, you might be ok... if you can stay on top of em till they're chopped. For spot applications, you might try 1 cu of water mixed with 1/2 cu lemon juice and about 20 drops of tobasco. Apply on leaves and avoid buds wherever possible (mold or taste issues). That'll definitely discourage the damn critters and may get you through harvest. Neem oil is also great stuff. I'm just trying to give you a quick mite control idea using stuff you may have in your kitchen.

My longer term solution was an order of 1000 predator mites (3 different kinds) that I applied at the beginning of the flowering period about 5 weeks ago. You can also buy smaller predator lots of 100 and 500. They say it takes about a month for the predators to establish themselves and control or eradicate the spider mites, which was true in my experience. But I did notice a definite improvement after 2 weeks. In fact I examined a pin prickled leaf the other day with my microscope and found 2 predators who had apparently just finished dinner. There was a crumpled up little mass with a couple of black dots on it...formerly marking where the spider mites shoulders once were. Yay, for the good mites!

I got the predators from superiorgrowers.com, $47 for 1000. If you don't bomb your grow room after this harvest, another option would be to introduce some predators during the veg cycle of your next crop.

Good luck, and a whole lotta empathy your way!

OK folks, harvest is done and I'm one tired boy. Probably 15 hours of work total, including taking and organinzing pics.

The mites are not a poblem with the harvested plants at all and I still see no signs of them on the first generation Ortega. I'll keep looking, make no mistake. Hard to believe I caught the infestation at the very first leaf and plant they contaminated, but I may have. I have tons of pics coming up, stay tuned.

are you tieing them together so you can fit them in there???

I have to cinch the branches up to keep each plant in its little piece of the floor profile. Even then it was some erious work moving plants in and out. Lots of moving, adjusting, and brushing aside. Wait till you see how they collapse without the ties. No wasted energy growing stems on these babies!

OK, here we go. First the stuff I should have trimed off long before harvest. This low intensity growing means lots more trimming of lower foliage to better focus the plants energies.

Here is the entire harvest. Seven plants in the first pic and eight plants on the screen

Or not last. :D Some other things of note with this grow. These were inserted into the flower area almost the same day the male plant was pulled. I didn't wash walls or take any other precautions to remove pollen, just stuck em in there and hoped for the best. Well, things worked out OK. Only the preflowers were pollenated and not too many of them. Out of 15 plants, I found 17 perfectly developed seeds, mostly along the very undersides of lower buds or in preflower pistillate position. Some examples.

a before pic where you can barely make out the mature pod

This is a very latge pic where you can see it just picked off. Nice trichome halo

And the preflower seed. Seems to me this would be a great way to get a dozen or two fully mature seeds using a fine pollen brush without affecting any buds whatsoever.
