An lb from a 400HPS? 15 trained Sweet Cindy

Ah yes, but the issue here is watts per square foot, which for this grow is in the low 20s. Lumens per sqf is roughly 2000. This goes against conventional wisdom that dictates something like 40 per sqf is absolute minimum for decent yields. Sorry for the lousy pics, I cant seem to get the camera to compensate for the white walls of the flower room and the plants always turn out dark.

Those LST shots are great Cap. I just started my first LST experiment with 5 northernberry clones. Did the first tie with them at about 5" tall.

I was wondering about the vertical support issue down the road, but I see what your strategy is to compensate for that. cool. You're doing me a great service with these shots and descriptions -- thanks!

wishing you a most bountiful garden,

yeah looks realy nice ,one small suggestion use garden twine instead of string ,if the string gets wet it stays wet and will rott your stems and branches eventually .

That's sessile twine that I'm using. I get 10,000 foot rolls of it from Wal-Mart for like $3. I like using the twine because it has a lot of friction aganst itself alowing you to make very loose ties that still have strength to resist the plants efforts at straightening.

Hey Cap,

Great thread, I've always liked the looks of the LST. I'm gonna have to give this technique a whirl in the future. I'll be watching closely for the results. Whats on deck after the SC99?

Update time, six days into flower

Checked the girls last night and some were critically low on fluids. Others not so much but they got watered anyway. This reminds me I have to rotate the plants once per wet/dry cycle since the driest plants were directly under the light. Everyone got full strength 10-15-10 to ride out the next 7-10 days of the stretch.

Some training shots as I tie down primary branching to canopy level.

This branch is too large to just tie to the rim if left as seen below. It extends so far out of the planters space that it would be prone to damage.

And the branch is gently moved to 45 degrees and tied off on itself. You can now get a couple more inches of pulldown with the rim tie. Remove excess branching like that one at the bottom of the plant

Hey Cap! --

Awesome LST work! Looks great!

So, you do trim back some of the smaller branches, eh? I was wondering about that...

It is going to be interesting to see if you get your LB! {I am betting you do! ;)}

A few days after being watered, growth has been great, about an inch a day. You can already tell this is going to be a crowded room....

Thanks friend

psychic, the planters are three gallons and the 400 is not air cooled, though I have a fan just out of sight above and to the left that blows down directly across the bulb and onto the plants. This takes care of cooling the area under the bulb and makes the plants move a bit in the wind. The space is 8' high that helps keep heat away from the lants and there is also a homemade carbon scrubber that exhausts the room directly outside.

Thanks Flowerman, Bonzo. :D

Looking at these these girls and the way they're developing, it's hard to see me getting an ounce + per plant. Thee just isn't enough mass to her and things have only begun to get crowded. Well, it's just a goal. Someday I'll do it with some strain. MAybe my new one....

Then two days go by and I look at them one by one and maybe it seems close to a possibility. Here they are two days later after a training and trimming session.

Another good example of stretch training. This planter has gone completely off to one side. This was the longest job of the night, according to my camera log, about 7 minutes

You can see 20 Watts psf will get you a little stretch in the stretch, but this is still a nice plant
