Fascinating stuff man. I my start recycling mine now that im switching to dry amendments. Ive bought fish bone meal, crab meal, kelp meal and chicken manure, all organic. I figure adding them to the 50/50 coco soil mix, at a couple of tablespoons per gallon, should be enough for the sativas i plan to grow

I know i started this thread to find alternatives to foxfarm but theres not many options out there as far as bag soil goes. So im just going to improvise it like you guys are doing ✌️
I mixed up my own soil a few years ago.and return it to the soil bin after a run, mix in another bag of amendments, and use it again.

I’m sure all that compost comes from pine bark and such from the paper mills down there
I wouldnt be surprised if it was mostly just pine bark and a lot of worming castings. High in nitrogen but not much else. Then again I grew an indica using barely any nutrients.
You can pull it off with a short flowering strain

Tossing in a bag of EWC and mushroom compost doesn’t hurt a bit. There used to be threads here about mixing your own soil.

One of these daze I’ll send some in to get analyzed.

What is not widely known is people who burn their plants with Ocean Forest don't know how to use it correctly. Ocean Forest doesn't add unnecessary amendments to burn plants because that would be ridiculous. Ocean Forest has a lot of water-soluble amendments added to the composted forest humus to feed the plants over an extended amount of time. If you add too much water to the growing media or over-water the mix, you will release the extra nutrients and burn the roots. IF you don't overwater the growing media you will have enough nutrients to last 6 weeks in a 1 gallon or small #5 container. IF fertiliser is added before the amendments break down you will burn your plants. Use only pure water for the first 4 to 6 weeks. The general NPK of Fox Farms Ocean Forest (NPK ratio of 4-1-1)😎
I disagree with a lot of that.

Coast of Maine Stonington blend bagged soil works well. Could use more perlite in it though. I usually add some in. It's pretty much pre-nuted and ready to go. I've slowed down using it due to price,,,but still, it works.

Coast of Maine also has a bunch of other type soils, some needing more ferts added than others. Don't know if they have retail outlets outside of New England yet, but in Maine and NH it can found lots of places.

For cost savings, their bagged fertilizer can pretty much turn promix and other peat based soils into a poor man's Stonington blend and is a cheaper alternative.

I've used Stonington blend dry ferts. to soup up Fox Farm Happy frog and even cheaper department store peat based mediums when growing in larger containers with longer veg periods.

I use their Lobster compost, but I did not care for their soil at all. Like, anything I grew in that Stonington Blend soil yielded less than half what my others in my usual soil did. I was not impressed at all.
