Shackzilla Bonzai from ******'s Shop in full flower

I sprouted this seed in mid October 2013 and began it's life in a mini PPK hydro system. Something went horribly wrong a couple weeks in causing the plant to damn near die. I pulled it from the PPK system and put it into some good organic soil in hopes of saving it. She lost almost all her leaves and simply stopped growing for a couple weeks. I almost chalked it up to another failed experiment when I noticed a couple small sprouts coming from a few nodes. I put it under the lights and started treating her a little better. In less than two weeks she had a whole new set of leaves and took off like crazy. I finally was able to go into flower on Jan 17 and here she is looking healthy as can be. The buds are getting huge and frosty, should be ready to harvest in a couple more weeks. I still can't get over how this thing rebounded after being on death's door. It truly points out how tough cannabis can be.

some reveg great !!! others .... not so much . try it & find out :)

i don't reveg plants that often , only when i loose the cuts or they don't root & i have to take cuts into flower . i find taking cuts in flower favorable , cuz once they root & reveg , you now have a monster cropped plant with a shitton of branches that are great as moms .

just wanted to say that this thread changed my life as an indoor grower. :) now i can keep in a small space some bonsai mums, rooting & vegging clones and seedlings. it's really great to have this kind of first hand info... thanks everyone for sharing! :) here's my humble contribution, one of my bonsai mums (3 so far), my Shit (Mr Nice) #1 pheno (i call it "afgan hash pheno"), about 5 months old, in a 0,8 L pot, got the pruning roots threatment twice, i really like her, it's amazing how quick and clear is the plant's reaction to pruning roots. ciao! :tiphat:

You know what, even though I was always doing my moms this way, before I ever read any threads like this one, this thread helped me immensely too! Mainly because it confirmed that the way I was already doing it is a good way, shared by others. But also because I've learned some good tricks over the years on keeping plants for long periods of time. I tend to now replace my mother plants with clones of themselves about once a year or so. I never let them get rootbound.

It is very simple to keep several moms this way, for sure. I'm only using a cabinet that is about 29" long by 15" wide, lit by a pair of 24w t5's. I keep 5 plants in here, but I have room for up to 8 plants. Typically what I do though is only keep one plant directly in the middle, while the others stay on the sidelines. That way the one in the middle is directly under the light, has plenty of room all around itself, and the other plants don't grow fast at all. The setup works for me:

In the above picture, one of the moms is missing because I just planted her in my LED garden the other day, and her replacement is still rooting in the cloner. The plant in the middle there is Stacked Kush, which has been providing cuts for me for about a year now. Her replacement is also still rooting at the moment. The plants on the sidelines are freshly rooted clones that just replaced their former selves last week.

You guys, I'm sorry, as it must have been answered 20 times in this thread somewhere.
To any of you who are already using bonsai moms, In your experience, about how many bonsai moms (or square feet of moms, or whatever) do I need to produce 50 cuts per month?
It's for a sog.

hey spanishwilly, i can't reply with precision because i don't need that many cuts per month... as you know bonsai mums need regular pruning (both up and down :)); on average, i use 3/5 clones/month per mum (not every month) but i could take up to 10/15 cuts (you see my typical mum in the post above). so i would say you should need 3 to 5 small bonsai mums to obtain 50 cuttings per month. saludos :tiphat:

yeah i think so, something like that. :) that one is 0,8L (i normally refer to volume rather than pot size). i am keeping 4 mums like that one in a 25x25 (cm) space. hope it helps! :tiphat:

Hey ic. First off thank you for this thread it is very informative and found at the perfect time. I am a small grower nowhere near any of these "elite" clones but just got the rare opportunity to acquire a couple and want to use this method to keep them around awhile. Heresy my question. I see that everybody keeps there moms as organic as possible but i am a dwc grower and wanted to know if it was possible to keep the moms in a light soiless mix (peat, verm, and perlite) and fed occasionally with gh nutes? They are decent nutes and i don't see alot of salt build up in my tub and with root pruning and replacing with fresh mix i don't really see it building up to bad but just wanted some feedback from the experienced. Or would it be better to just buy a decent soil? And if so what would be best to feed with readily available at the local store as i am not around hydro stores? It would be great to keep it simple using what i have and have experience with but want to keep them around for awhile but also healthy. Thanx ic.

The Guava and Hash Plant are just over a year old, and the Blueberry was transplanted into it's first pot in the beginning of October. All are in 3ga pots. I have been experimenting with bonsais for a few years now, it's a fun process if you have the time/patience :) Pictures of the 1.5ga moms coming soon!
