Africa Outdoor Grow 2016/2017

i,m in hot climate also 100+F most days , growing in pots for the first time ....... heat/stress seemed to be making them throw pistils then stall little then take of again when cooler type days came ....so was very interested in your process and whats worked , as next season its my first job on the to do list .

i mulch wrap around the pot held in with chicken wire was suggested , but if i can keep it need and tidy will be nicer comedically for me .
thanks for sharing and will be great thread .
Yeah i mulch too. Definitely helps with the water retention on the hotter days and keeps the soil cool season round. Heat stress will 100% stunt your plant and it's hard to bounce back. But if your pots aren't protected, mulch won't help much.

Hi, not that I would envy your really hot temperatures, but I would like to have more stable flow of sunlight in my geografic parts. I guess I can't have everything.

But on topic nice plants and they look happy!

Keep it up

I think the 1st swazi crosses were done with a skunk strain if I remember correctly .. but yes a pure Swazi is hard to find these days. There were like 2 or 3 distinct swazis back in the day plus the famous "Swazi Skunk" which was distinct. These days it's nothing like that.. There are maybe 20 different varieties now.

Don't even bother looking for it. I also remember those different Swazi's.one was more brown, one was more red,one was more golden...Swazi Gold is just Swazi grown under opitimal conditions and seedless in my opinion, Rooibaard being a red phenotype bred selectively which was my favourite 10-20 years ago :D

The drying and curing process has a lot to do with it also, commercial Swazi is obviously dried as quickly as possible and no cure. Comparable to Mexican and Columbian commercial sativa sold in the states I'm guessing. Then the 12 to 14 week flowering times aargh no thanks I'm growing foreign strains mostly indica bought through seed banks.a anyways that's my 2c on why I don't smoke or grow Swazi. Nice grow you sure to have smoke to last winter

I definitely agree about the care taken when picking and drying. There are some guys up there that take real care though .. but when you pretty much supply a whole nother country i guess it's hard to keep a solid standard
I agree it's not worth taking the time to grow either though.

Feed time
8 x cups WC
8 x cups composted banana and butter nut
4 x cups composted lucern and greens

Those spears are indeed a sight for sore eyes, Valley Mike. The benefits of all that feeding you give the plants, is self evident in that serious poundage you are days from pulling down.

As soon as the agenda calls for smoke tests, kindly send over a drone with some sample buds for me to examine and apply the official seal of approval, if you will, kind sir.

great job mate , i can appreciate the conditions you growing under would be a challenge in itself . let alone doing a great job

though you killed my dream of real durban not being around anymore .

Thank you. Yes every season has its challenges but nothing that's not fixable to some extent.

As for the Durban, yeah it's been gone for a couple decades now.. best chance of a (real) durban would be from like Sensi Seeds or something. Ive smoked a real Durban Poison and that was back in 96. Besides that yeah its pretty much gone 😔

i also dont think you can find 'pure' Durban anymore from seedbanks,i doubt the DP Nirvana,Sensi,Dutch Passion etc. offer are pure considering their recommended flowering times. A Pure durban would take like 12-14 to flower not 8 weeks i suspect they bred in Afghan or some early flowering strain

Very true. :dunno: it's also just never been anything I've wanted to grow. It's like an urban legend hahahaa everyone love it but nobody seen it lol. I'm running some GSC at the mo.. have 2 very sativa dominant phenos and the rest more short and stocky .. let's see how these sativa pheno pan out and if it clicks any old memories of 20 something years back haha
