I hate to be that guy, but I was talking to someone who says he gave Electric Stoner his cut of MOB about 10 years ago. Goes by the name Fire Garden Pharms Genetics. He tells me that he knows Electric Stoner, and that the story of his family being the originators of the cut is total BS. Electric Stoner was given the cut because FGPG (I'm abbreviating) was dating a chick who had a destructive kid who liked to uproot plants for fun. Not sure WTF the kid was doing near his garden but whatever. Says Electric Stoner was supposed to give him the cut back recently, but never did. So though I can't prove this is true or not, he definitely knows Electric Stoner because he knows his name (I know his name too btw). No hard feelings on my part for Electric Stoner, (well there are some because he broke his word to me) but if he's BSing people, then I don't find that to be right. Not to mention all the people he promised seeds and cuts to, only to ghost them. I could go on, but this is a MOB thread.

I also saw where Matt Riot was claiming that Riotberry v4, which is MOB x Blue Bonnet, was actually (Mendo Purps x Blueberry) x Blue Bonnet. He claims that the cut circulating the community as MOB isn't. I also went to Phylos to see what they had to say (not that they are 100% trustworthy but I don't think one should toss the baby out with the bathwater either) and apparently DC Seed Exchange (who's a friend of Electric Stoner) submitted a MOB cut in 2018 to be tested. Phylos said it was closely related to Mendo Purps. So I really have to wonder.

I asked FGPG about it, and of course he poo pooed it as total BS. He said he got the cut about 15 years ago, which doesn't really mean anything. Anyway, I'm wondering what people's thoughts on all of these things are. I want to get to the bottom of what cut I actually have. I was told it's the original MOB. But I'm definitely wondering now.

Now defunct Highrise seeds sold S2’s, I thought they were decent, but the hybrid I made with them showed tons of Mob phenos and new novel phenos also. There is definitely a recessive herm trait in the line. But outdoors, no problems with herms.

Having grown Mendo Purps x bubblegum and bubblegum S1’s the Mendo purps throws a lot of those dark, berry, earthy terps you see in the purple side of Mob. The only other plant I’ve seen that made me think MOB!… would be curious to grow the Mendo purps S1’s.

I've been growing MOB OG indoors for years which is highrise MOB x GDP Ken's OG

I remember KRK or someone saying he got his cut out of Maine that was held by a family for 20 years and that had to of been 7 years ago. So 27 years ish i guess now. Also mentioned they're only one with legit cut, unless of course they gave it out after KRK.

Someone should ask KRK.

Mendo purps was winning cups in 2007/2009 so the years mob held in maine almost lines right up with mendo purps.

It was around 2017 I think I was listening to KRK talk about it being held for 20 years at that point.

Does mendo taste/smell like berries?

MOB is berry terps. Which is what dj short describes in his blueberry.

I read that Mendo Purps is grapey and piney. But it's not like MOB would be a Mendo P S1. It's part Blueberry. And I'm not sure how Mendo P breeds. If Matt Riot is saying that the cut going around as MOB is Mendo P x Blueberry, I'm inclined to believe him because I'm assuming that Notsodog (the one who found Mendo P in 1998) agrees with that.

I grew Mendo P x GHASH from Bodhi a while back, and there were definitely a couple of spicey piney ones. But there was also one that was straight berry and grape. I'm pretty sure KRK never had the real MOB either. Only S1. If he did, he selfed it twice, because he has only ever released S2.

The last few posts raise some interesting concerns and questions. I'm not the guy to make any claims of what is or isn't, "real MOB" but I'm interested in the conversation.

I did make a few seeds this summer outdoors using a male from Dirty Worms farms MOB BX and the "cherry pheno" MOB cut I acquired a few years ago. I don't know for sure, but I suspect the cherry pheno Mob, may be an s1 of the original Mob. (At least I hope it is )

I've labeled the progeny "86% mob" for my own records and just put 3 unsexed small ones in flower indoors. Hoping for a decent male to hit my cherry pheno Mob again to make some "93% Mob" regular seeds.

It's funny, I could be playing with two iterations of the real Mob or maybe not. Both the cherry pheno and the Dirty worms Mob BX finished in September (maine) outdoors and had decent mold resistance this past year. Whatever I have, if the 93% I hope to make this winter perform outside in 2025, I'll probably make more seeds.

Yeah, I've heard some people say that there were two MOB cuts. The guy on IG that I talked to said that it was bullshit, but he didn't seem like someone who's been around the community for 30 odd years like the cut has. He wasn't wanting to hear it. But some old timer on another forum swore up and down there was a cherry MOB cut. I'm someone who wants to learn, so I try to check my preconceived notions at the door.

Interesting enough, I've seen a lot of the S2 and S3 of KRK's MOB, and there is a cherry pheno in there. I haven't grown it myself but do have some from a couple of different people. KRK claimed he was working with the real deal, or at least S1 of it. I am pretty sure he never had the actual cut though. There was some contention of that issue on one of the forums that I frequent. FWIW, my MOB cut (from Dirty Worm) absolutely will mold indoors if the colas are too big. It's so leafy and the buds are so dense that mold can form inside. No cultivar with buds that dense and thick is immune.

The Blueberry used in the MOB BX was from a line that I gave to Electric Stoner. It was technically at F9, because DJ releases at F5, and it was worked for 3 gens before I did an open pollination to make more seeds. I gave a shit load to him and he sold most of them supposedly to help someone in need out. But he also made F10 which he was explicitly asked not to sell, but I said he could give away. Apparently he did sell some to people but he never sent them. That's why he's MIA now.

He never mentioned selling any Blueberry crosses in his original intent for why he wanted Blueberry seeds. But he sure talked a lot about everyone being able to "eat at the table" and "community." A real stand up guy. I've gotta laugh at some of these people.

Anyway, don't let that sour you. It's pretty cool that you've got those seeds though. I'd definitely make more of the MOB BX if I were you.. That cherry MOB cut sounds interesting. Could be an S1 or even an S2.

FWIW, I don't really care what the lineage of my MOB cut is. Whether it's Jerry Berry x Blueberry (if that's indeed the lineage. Was DJ selling BB seeds in the 80s?) or it's Mendo P x Blueberry. I have the MOB cut that's being passed around the community, and has been for 15 years at least. I can't really verify one way or another. I like the cut a lot though, and plan to hold it for a long time.

The cherry pheno I have hasn't hermied or had mold problems indoors. Last couple weeks outdoors you do have to watch for botrytis if it's a wet fall. Best to top in veg and get a shitload of medium sized buds rather than big ass top buds that look great, but attract mold.
Has shown good resistance to septoria outdoors, sturdy structure, nice nose. Probably never going to get monster plants with this one. I see it as being a fun plant to grow in maybe a 15 gallon container outdoors.

The only Dirty Worm MOB BX I've grown so far have been the two purposefully smallish tester girls ( 5 gallon buckets) grown outdoors this past summer and of course their brother whose pollen I used to dust my cherry pheno, again outdoors. One of the girls showed some purple and the other remained green. Both passed the smoke test. I think I've got maybe 10 or 12 seeds of the Dirty Worm Bx remaining. Good on you for supplying the blueberry!

Agreed, in the long run it doesn't really matter what it is as long as it meets the criteria the grower is looking for, but still, it's always nice to hear the background stories. I certainly don't have an Uncle that originated MOB, although some of my long-gone great uncles were boot leggers in the Bangor area 90 odd years ago.

I don't think Electric Stoner has an Uncle that originated MOB either. Might be a shit storm when he eventually returns to this thread. But if I end up being wrong, I'll apologize.

FWIW, the MOB Magoo hybrid that I made (MOB x Blue Magoo BX3) is one of the best things I've ever made. MOB doesn't seem to breed true as some other mentioned, but BM BX3 does. There are phenotypes in those F1 that are like BM on steroids.
