Aerohead this is one of those classic super-innovative setups that comes to IC from time to time. Thanks for putting it up here!

For those who might be interested, here is a little bit more I found out about the case Aerohead used. It was made by Lian-Li for Best Buy, and for whatever reason Best Buy decided to sell them all for very cheap, so people were getting them for between about $50 and $75 for a while.

Those seem to be pretty much all gone and unavailable now, but there is good news and bad news about getting something similar in aluminum made by Lian-Li:

Good news is that the Rocketfish case that Aerohead used is pretty close to the same as the Lian-Li PC-A71B.

Bad news is that the lowest price I can find for the PC-A71B is about $250 when shipping is included! :yoinks:

Thanks Thiru, Good find on that case, that is my case indeed! It's funny, when I first started this project, there were no less that 10 of these cases by various sellers on 3bay for around $100 shipped. Now there are none...LOL Makes me wonder if they weren't bought out by ICMAG members! If I had to, I would pay $250 for another because it would pay off after the first run. I also firmly believe the aluminum helped to cool the case off quite a bit.

Im sorry to hear the 2 from seed didnt do well, damn, something to think about. Maybe those forced to go by seed for their pc grows, may think about planting only 1 seed and having a 30-60 day veg to fill up their screen, so at least the buds grow consistent with each other, otherwise a modular scrog might need be considered.
FatRob, thanks again buddy, your suggestion is a good one, I came to the same conclusion. The next aero PC run will be with 2 choice clones vegged for a longer period. I wasted alot of space in the screen with too many plants last run. My theory was reduced veg time with more plants but I don't think some of them had the proper root structure when flowered so they were stunted somewhat. I feel less plants vegged longer will give me better results here.

Man, can i come kick it with you?! haha
But really, great job.
I'm tellin you, you should start making those pc cases for a living.

Have you always grown using aeroponics?
Thanks!! If I made these cases for profit, I would have to charge $700 and I doubt anyone would want to pay that kinda cash for a micro box. There is alot of work in there and parts add up quickly, lots of time to build too.

I have not always used aeroponics but It has been my choice method for 15 years or so.

I stopped by the local hardware store today and picked up some acrylic scraps, I also picked up some black acrylic so I don't have to use paint. They had white too but it allowed 30% light to pass through so I decided to go with the black. Here is a shot of some of the supplies needed to build a custom sump. We will build a new aero machine soon!

Alright Aero! Read the whole thread and it's incredibly impressive. The PC building background really starting to pay off now eh!!

Question for you if you don't mind - I'm on my info gathering pre build mission currently. I will be going for a micro grow heavily influenced by your excellent set up. Maybe a bit wider as sound smell and heat are my main stealth factors as will be in my loft/attic so doesn't have to look too stealth (as long as reasonably small size). Will also have a small mum room on the end and a carbon filter on top, so a bit of a cross between your setup and NGBs classic stealth box.

I want to go T5 route as well so was wondering if this was the 80Watt fellas you mentioned?

What do you think the Lumens would be from this? I'd like to have at least 2 of these next to each other (pref 3) but it says they're only 44mm wide which can't be right surely? Unless they're talking about the width of tube itself rather than the double tube width unit if you get what I'm saying!

Yes, those are the 80w PLL's I was talking about. T5 means that the tube diameter is 5/8" or roughly 16mm. So 44mm sounds about right for the width of both bulbs or roughly 1.5" wide by 22.5" long. I would try to get them in 2700k or 3000k rather than 4000k but they would work if no other colors are available. The lumen ratings I have seen on these bulbs is around 6800, not sure what brand that was though.

Thanks for checkin the thread!!

Call me simple, but the fact that someone could grow a areo scrog in a pc case impresses the hell out of me. Great job. Mind blowing really.

yo aero, cant wait to see the dry weights...

After my current grow im planning on doing a vertical grow with PL-L's in my speaker.hoping to have 2x 36w PL-L's and sog 8 plants around each light... trying hard to get 1g/w with that grow, going to do it hydro..

We will see what happens when the time comes.. could you explain a sump?

Im probably going to build my own rez out of plexiglas.

Alright everyone! Hi Aero, trying to do a bit of plan for my Aero inspired micro/hydro/CFL. It's all to scale although the longer lights don't look like the pic on the webpage despite going off their dimensions.

Being a first timer I don't know the sizes of some (well most) of the components and was wondering if people could scrawl over my attachment with some realistic sizes? Also whilst scrawling can people add in circulation/lamp cooling fans where they think best (I'll be going for a 2 plant SCROG) with what type of fan if that's not too cheeky!!

Thanks in advance people/Aero, and obviously any scrawled additions of stuff I've forgot or should change are most welcome!

Hi AERO,
This my very first post and i have registered only because of your project. It's absolutely fantastic and please post more pics. After i have seen your Pc case i was completely sold to pc grow.I have purchased Lian li case last week friday(found yesterday that you are using that case :) ) Got tubes same as you Pll 55W.
I know that you are busy but pls can you post pictures how did you fit 2G11 sockets in ??? i have seen some of pics from your case but none of them are displaying how they are fitted on the case itself.
One more small reguest:how did you turn upsidedown front panel ??? pls some pics. I'm going with DWC system and need space badly for tank with water. Thus i have to turn front fans from bottom part to top part of the case.Otherwise they will be blowing into tank.
Sorry for such lame questions
Thank you for your grow diary and keep it up good work

SVK, you are in luck, I have my PC case torn down due to mods for the next run. I have removed some of my aluminum work to access wiring ect so I can post some pics for you. As far as relocating the fans, I had to cut the case up pretty good and build a new rear panel. I used pop rivets to mount the 2g11 sockets to the reflector, then glued the reflector to the top of the case with heat sink glue. I left a removable access panel for the wiring of the sockets in the rear. I'll try to get a few pics posted soon. I have also built a new aero sump and will post those as well.

Thanks for checking out my grow SVK!!

We have a dry weight!!

Looks like I fell pretty short of the goal, 38.5 grams! I weighed it several times and got the same numbers lol... I was a little bummed with the weight but that was quickly offset by the quality of the buds, they are outstanding. I am also keeping in mind that this was the first run with a new complicated system. I have identified several improvements to be made and we will try again to get 56 grams!!

Here is some pics:

The whole lot:

The heaviest bud award goes to this one:

Followed closely by this one:

Bag appeal is very good here:

Here is the buds that will be further cured in this cigar box in a paper bag..

I don't have the energy to post a smoke report at the moment, I'll get on that after a few more bowls.......

Niiiice looking buds. agreed on the bag appeal :)

There really isnt a doubt in my mind that you will hit the weight your looking for next time!

Are you going to just continue this thread or create another one for the build up of your case and future grows?

edit: HAPPY 4:20!!!!!!!

Thanks everyone for the replies!

Hey Strangely, I didn't feel like you hi-jacked the post, no worries..

Thought I would post pics of some mods made to the case, notice the radiator for the sump is installed. There is also a very radical new sump in the case. I took pics of the build, just trying to figure out how to make a DIY out of it. I am also going to play with Co2 next run!

Here is the back of the case, I still have some wiring and painting to finish...
