LATER GREEN JEANS
!peace!
Hey greaan jeans,
which strains in bonsai style mums do you have??
also about how long til ill need to trim the soil when she shows signs of rootbound??
later,
-PEACE!
Almost any plant can be mothered bonsai - the pure sativas might be a bit of work to keep small though, however I have 2 amnesia99 moms - they're daughters stretched from 8" to 39" during flower,
They're in 6" pots and only get a transplant once every 4-6 months. The secret is to give them minimal ferts and minimal light when you don't need them for cuttings. I have mine 6+ feet from the light, usually partially shaded by the larger plants closer to the light. When I need cuttings I give a light feeding of grow nutes and put them close under the light for a week or 2.
When they get very overgrown I trim them back to 1 node above the main trunk - they look like hell but they slowly fill in. If they are well trimmed and have minimal green whatever roots they have are good enough. They only show signs of being root bound when the green above is too much for the roots below...
got it! my plant is doing well today i had to trim a leave that was in the way of the new shoots trying to grow and its definatly sped her up ill post pics later
thanks green jeans
PEACE
clone to jiffy7 to bio-bizz soil compost. 10days 18/6, 72days 12/12 approx.
limited lst/bonsai training by hand n string
top quality genetics, with nice flowers, mixed stone
most photos lost to OG, RIP...
Whatever grow fert you prefer, I've been using PureBlend Pro Grow and Algamic, I only give them maybe 250 ppm feeding once a month or longer, I let the lower leaves tell me when they need to be fed.
we find that a good soil mix gives enough nutes for fast-flower plants,,, 100% organic bloom stim. is added at week 4-5 that's all, then water diet until harvest (small cold cups of water daily).
The photos suck due to my craptacular camera skills...
Notice how small the leaves on the 3 established mums are compared to the new transplants. I think it's the Black gold, but I don't know for sure.
I don't really train them so I dono if you would call them Bonsai or not. Anyway I just keep them in small pots filled with Black Gold Bonsai mix. I think it helps to keep them small.
I have 3 mums (center) that are 6-8 months old. So far so good.
The one on the left is a replacement mum for my NNL. It was getting to leggy so I am going to veg/flower her out. The 2 on the right are 'staged' and will go into the DWC to veg/flower in a couple months. I transplanted the youngins to the bonsai potting mix after rooting them in the EZ-Clone 30. They took right to it after the transplant, didnt even wilt at all.
I just keep them topped because they need to stay less than 12" tall (med patient).
I feed them with every watering. 5ml PBP grow, 2.5 ml LK per gallon and a touch of Silica Blast (every other watering). I only water them when they start to droop (about every 2-3 days)
Lights are 20/4 but I'm going to 18/6 when I get new bulbs for the 24" 4 bulb t5 light I use for them.
So far I'd say (for personal med use) mini or Bonsai is the way to go. Nice thread BTW. Peace CF
Sorry that I missed this one - bonsai work has been a bit on the back burner this past year...
Hiya cabanetforester
Thanks for visiting the bonsai garden! I don't think the pictures suck - I like 'em! You've done a great job on your bonsai, they're tuned and cruisin. Takes some folks a while to get to this point - strong work!
What brought me back to this thread - I found a great bonsai material - Erica Heather, they are from South Africa, and I saw them in grocery stores around here for around $5 per. perfect broom style with mini flowers - no preparatory training required!
Don't know how easy it is to propagate, but I will be trying her once the weather starts warming up enough for outside root growth...
If you see one of these, grab 'em. Only gotcha I found is they are acid loving plants, so neutral or slightly acid pH water is best.
Thanks Sonoma - if you have a Trader Joe's around you can find them there for a 5 spot. Put in a slightly fancier pot, they make a great make up gift to wives and lady friends. The main reason I got her was the minuscule flowers - just perfect for a 6-12" bonsai. For perspective, they are 3 mm diameter, very small.
Meanwhile back at the garden, this one will be babied until springtime, then when she's getting ready to bolt again I'll give her a trim and a transplant into a proper bonsai pot. I'll photo her up when she's ready...
