Abandoned dogs

The missus was sitting there opening a bag of rawhide bones, with all three stooges clonked together at her knees. She got the 3 pack open and handed each one a bone. They all took off for separate corners to chew their bones and the missus looked at me and asked, "Did you ever think I'd be opening a bag of treats with all three dogs right there, with no fussing or fighting?"

We are just so pleased at how well they all get along now.

It's been awhile, so I thought I'd update.

All three of our knuckleheads are still getting along fine. Cricket and Hershey are always playing and Missy can get a break now and then.

We have completely ruined Hershey. You can't walk up to him without him flopping over for a tummy rub. He's shameless.

Now that Cricket is over a year old and Hershey has been weened off of shit food, they all get the same food. Makes dinner time easier. Hershey is a whiner when preparing his food. Cricket picked that up from him so the carrying on when we're fixing their food is epic these days.

Here is a gif of the three of them playing in the snow the other day . . .

It's funny, but Hershey and Cricket really love the snow. Missy is always ready to come in first and then Hershey and Cricket keep carrying on for a bit. Problem is Missy and Cricket seem to just shed the snow (except for in between Missy's pads). Hershey comes in looking like a snow dog. He does not have the fur to shed snow at all, but he can't get enough of it anyway. Plus he enjoys the attention he gets when we towel him off after him comes in from outside.

All in all, we feel very fortunate that they all get along so famously. We haven't had one incident.

Side note: Missy and Hershey are bad asses when someone comes to the door. Cricket is right there with them woofing it up. But if the visitor comes in, Cricket runs and hides. She's the biggest dog of the three and the biggest chicken as well.

So cute! Animals can be so happy if they have a good pack.
We adopted a kitten that was found in the streets, malnourished, packed with fleas and lice and only 4 weeks old. Our labrador/collie gets along with him extremely well! They're such a cute couple, always playing and thrashing around the house :) When I let the dog back in the cat comes back in too. When the cat doesn't come in and doesn't respond to my yelling the dog goes back out to look for him!
Our dog is much less frustrated when we're out working the whole day because he got his playmate now. Makes me feel a bit stupid we didn't look for another pack member sooner, it's sad for a dog to be by himself! Though when there were dogs from friends staying at our home for a couple of weeks, he gave the impression he came second place. He didn't seem to care for us much anymore, no longer upbeat and wagging his tail when we called him or even just glance at him. Maybe that was just an impression or a transition period I dunno.

My sister adopted a 4 month old husky/stafford cross from the shelter. Such a cutie, smart, sweet and so careful! I'm sooo glad they didn't pay the €1000 for an inbred race dog that starts to get all kind of illnesses before they're even old but instead gave a new future to an abandoned pup!

Our grandson got an Easter basket with a stuffed animal in it (even though he's too old for that stuff). All of our puppy toys have been shredded, they still play with them but the stuffing is gone and the squeakers are long gone.

So . . .

Once we realized the truly pathetic condition of the dogs' toys, the Missus went out and bought them some new ones.

Here's some pics of Missy guarding her hoard.

The other two are off camera going nuts on toys they managed to sneak from Missy.

Thank you. And here's a pic of the star of this thread enjoying one of his new toys in the hallway (where Missy won't bug him).

Got a couple of pics to share.

1st, Missy and Cricket have had doggie ice cream before. Hershey hadn't. The missus bought three from pet smart and gave them to the mutts. In the photo, she's holding Hershey's and Missy's in her hands and has Cricket's between her feet (multitasker). At one point Hershey had his eyes closed as he licked and I believe he was having a deeply spiritual moment.

2nd, another perspective shot of our "little puppy" Cricket. We're looking into a saddle . . .

Gotta love them "ice cream eyes."
Our wee twinkle tail, goes all sparrow over chicken jerky.
The wag speed on her tiny stub is amazing.
If she had a full tail she would resemble a peacock.

When my girl passed on I started looking for a rescue. In the mean time a little stray kitten happened to find me and I took her in, partly because she acted more like a dog than a cat. That was 10 years ago and no regrets even though I’ve always been a dog person. Sometimes I think things are just meant to be. Wonderful thread.

I saw a bumper sticker today that almost brought a tear to my eye. It read…Rescued are the Best Breed.
