you need to go to home despot and grab some pvc and fittings and start experimenting with mobile screens...i know im working on a slightly different scale here, but im moving towards each plant having its own small platform on casters with the screen attached to the base so once i do the final transplant into whatever sized containers i end up using,im running 45 gallon and 20 gallon smart pots and 10 gallon nursery pots in the same room...for the larger plants i intend on running here the 45's are working out pretty well as far as giving me days off to go camping...still getting a feel for them, but maybe i can get 2 nights off out of them....its not like i can lift the pot to judge how well watered the are...and the moisture meter i have only goes down so far....gonna try some 30 gallon pots next...at any rate...the idea being get them some time in veg with the screen,do my training and pruning in veg then just wheel the plant into flower...building a whole new set of rooms...6 foot wide door into flower...currently i can barely even fit the 45 gallon pots through the veg room door so i certainly cant get a 4x4 screen on them ahead of time...and those big ass plants area pure bitch to move around...the swtc99 i snapped one of the 4 main branches moving it..bam,just like that,1/4 of the production gone,at this size plant that like 6-8 ounces gone....
babbling again...just got back from riding, cold and windy,i was getting my ass kicked by the wind, just couldnt get warmed up or find my rhythm...went to a trek test ride event...got on a 4000 dollar road bike...just about creamed myself,it was so buttery...

Why We Run by Bernd Heinrich

Why We Run by Bernd Heinrich

...that's what I'm currently reading. It's been up on a shelf..for a year..but I brought it down last night and started reading. It interests me: the human evolution into becoming a long range running animal. Has a lot to do with our ability to sweat...to follow the vultures in the sky...coming out of forest onto plains. Theory into adaptations

...then I think of how the devolution (or evolution..depending on your view) of synthetic nonorganic technology will now be playing a role in human design. It's going to have to change...and there may no longer be that need to run long. It could be...we are among the 1st ten generations to see this transition....and already...running is viewed..by most...as but a...sport. The complete lifestyle...already gone

/////////////////////

In these cold, windy, and dry conditions...we are experiencing in my neck of the woods...I woke myself up...for a...pollination session

^ On day 30 is a Mox Mox IX1 (left) and a Hell Hound IX1 (right) after having both being...partially pollinated for the making of Hell Mox. Let's see...these would be pollinations 6 and 7....making the score thus far: 4 HH and 3 MM pollinated for the project...now using pollens..from 6 males (3 MM and 3 HH)

* I'm hoping to catch some different expressions in both these plants. Particularly...I'm hoping to see a different Mox expression...as I've mentioned...most the Mox have been close in expression (with the exception of the Flo dominant expression)...not uniform..but not showing that much variation either.

^ Here's how they looked after having been...sprayed down..moved back into their flowering positions (in the wheel)...tied up..further defoliated etc etc. The HH is on the left....the MM on the right.

It's a delicate operation...but well worth the extra trouble.

** This run to make Hell Mox...I can compare to running a long distance out in the mountains. I'm pacing myself...attempting to keep my breathing calm. Takes a lot of patience...lot of discipline...lot of will.

Does it get old...all the work...all the routine?

Yes. It can get old...can become monotonous at times. I find myself looking at plant expressions until I can't see straight. Sometimes have to seriously walk away for awhile. And then I wonder: why the fuck am I doing all this?...because you know...the next round it all begins again.

sorting...sifting...culling..breeding...planting...harvesting...successful..unsuccessful...pollen...beans....

I must be sick in the head...as to bring upon myself..this extra burdening grind. I can never seem to just take the easy pathways...it's a curse

i hear that...some days i look at the garden and think "what, this again? didnt i just do this yesterday?" but then when im miles out in the desert, smoking a fat joint in the middle of the day and realize i dont have anywhere to be in any huge hurry so i may as well go see whats over the next hill...then i remember that the garden is the tool that allows me the freedom to wander like that....
rebuilding the whole system, already framed out the rooms, just need to get some sheetrock up and get the electrician in to drop a new service line and put in a new panel and get that all up and running and finally have the front house clear of any growing stuff...although at this point im not sure if i can sleep with the white noise of exhaust fans running....
anyway, new stuff going into flower soon, always fun, more seeds sprouted, more miles ridden, another day gone by....

Yeah man. I'm heading out into the hills now. I have the afternoon to run...actually an open schedule until Thursday. Plenty of time to garden and train.

After reading a few chapters of that book last night....had some crazy dreams about running up hills....there were other peeps in the dreams..but I could only hear them...couldn't see them.

Had 2 days off the trails...feeling kind of healed up, rested, and strong. Conditions are good for a performance effort.

last week sort of sucked training wise, still managed to crank out some miles but they were bitter miles....windy,grey and cold makes for poor borscht...looks like im taking today off though, tomorrow will be a good day to get out for a long ride with a fat joint, going to do a long half dirt loop around town, about 32 miles, almost exactly half uphill and half down...about 1800 ft of climbing, but spread out over the 16 miles, only one steeper section right at the beginning and one right at the end...then a nice tree to stop under...the only one around really, just super convenient its right at the half way point, then pretty much all downhill from there...a perfect little two hour ride...plus it goes by some trailheads i have been meaning to check out, theres another long dirt ride to the south, bit longer day, round trip is like 54 miles...

Some mid 60's "jam dominant" Hell Hound IX1

Some mid 60's "jam dominant" Hell Hound IX1

...early sample buds. This plant is still flushing

^ cut these off a couple days ago. A little while back...a few minutes ago..vaporized a bowl. Has a sweet fruity flavor..like an artificial fruity flavor. High is pretty mellow/dreamy...but

that could just be endorphins. Ran for 1:55...cutting in and out of strong NE winds...wore a button up flannel over top a long sleeve cotton to block out penetrating cold. All this dry air..blowing forcefully..is parching out the terrain quickly...but it's a strange atmosphere to run in...cold windy dry..and the light spectrum mostly white but with a slight sickly yellow

makes things appear off/dirty...and I can't see clearly. It's such an unstable atmosphere..shit's bouncing all over on a molecular level..can't quite see it happening...but I can feel it

Not a great run. Had moments when things were flowing really well..but then I'd get caught up in some section or another..and lose my rhythm into an erratic salvage effort...come back into..some focused form in order to drop myself back into the flow...change stepping if needed..to match up with the terrain...but yeah..

basically it was a slugfest of a run. Lot of push ups at the tops of hills..recovery push ups...make myself recover while busting out push ups. Give those legs a minute or so off..but keep working the upper 1/2...collect the breathing while working chest and back

* More and more I'm concentrating on mechanics. Might be transitioning into some other phase. Mechanics balanced in individual style...that's the next mountain I see...to master

How does that fit in with what is going on with my Cannabis breeding?

I can make an argument that the Hell Mox transition and this transition into form mechanics are important steps...on both fronts. I will now...always see them as related. A sign of the times

A hill I wanted to run..

A hill I wanted to run..

...had to take care of some stuff on the edge of the Urban Interface..not my favorite place to be...but there is this hill I'd been wanting to run

^ Right off the interstate...this barren looking thing juts up...just over 4100' high. Not really any kind of designated/official trail...and not all runnable (mostly I could run it...but a few steeper sections of boulders had to be climbed up and down)...not real far distance wise...though it does have around a 1700' elevation change..just a hill I wanted to top out. Took me 1:45 up and back..with little stops for pictures. going up was a lot of grunt work and coming down took a lot of concentration not to fuck up

^ From where I started. Steady climb to the 1st rock outcropping..which serves as one of many..false tops. From the rock outcropping...it's really a series of climbs..from one outcropping to the next...sometimes in deep washes...sometimes along ridge line

^ Easy piece of a ridge line...coming up on...the last false top

^ Bit windy and cold on the top. Actually there are two knobs divided by a saddle (about a 1/4 mile apart)...pretty close in height...the flag was flying on one of them..and the other had a rock wall enclosure/windbreak

In these pictures...you can pretty much see my playground. Those are the mountains I run in. As far as you can see..looking in every direction but west...you can see the mountains of southern california. Several different ranges.

I have many more mountains I want to run. I'm always pulling over...and looking at hills...checking to see if they have a way to access them..see if they have trails or power line/jeep trails....see if they can be run. Yup...I study maps...and ask questions

EDIT: In summer this hill cooks in full sun exposure. It's also well known for its large population of rattlesnakes

looks familiar somehow...bit more of a sage and chaparral country than here, but pretty similar...where i was at on my ride today i could see 6-7 different mountain ranges, plus plenty of 4wd roads to explore...same elevation change for me,about 1800 feet of climbing total...nice ride aside from the 4 miles of washboard, that shits just no fun...32 miles door to door, took a bit over 2 hours, going to take the road bike out for a spin around the same distance tomorrow, then a mountain biking day on friday, something hilly...then a towing day in town, then maybe a rest day...starting to really put down the 150 mile weeks pretty often now...trying to get to 20 hours a week...the mileage doesnt really matter as much as the saddle time...but i should be able to get to places 30 miles away and come back in a 3-4 hour ride...there is a nice 100k route i already know around the valley, nice ride,62 miles, but theres a great mexican food joint at about mile 40 of the route...perfect time to stop and chow down and just ride it slow and easy home...

That's one thing about doing rides on road bikes: you can ride from restaurant to restaurant. I have a couple neighbors who ride regular..and they talk about stopping at this place or that place...for food or a coffee stand for some joe. A part of their ride. Sometimes they ride down to the brewery in Tecate (in Mex) for some beers..then ride back.

Good friend of mine...20 yrs older than me...just rode his bike from TJ down to the tip of Baja. The dude has been one of my mentors for the last 15yrs...a machine. Great waterman as well. Spends most his time down in Mex or some other warm climate. I saw him riding today...while driving back from my run...stopped and talked for a while. Told him I'm getting closer...to fucking out of here

you could almost say eating is the highlight of any good ride,it sure makes even mundane things taste great...i have learned 2 hours is about my max without eating anything, after that i get bonky and start losing form, towing makes it even worse,i need something about every hour or so with a full load in the trailer....so you can see where stopping and eating starts to get important, its hard to carry enough calories without resorting to those awful gel things...me,i usually just stop and smoke a bowl and eat something, not like i have anyplace to be,usually im better off not being in any hurry...

I've found the same thing...2-3 hrs is the window for me. Usually around the 2 hr mark..I'm starting to desire calories and water.

I've also found that my recovery is such...that if I eat/drink and take a little break...I'm good to go again. So if I properly refuel after a 2 hr run...I can go right back out..and hit it for another 2hrs. I judge much about my conditioning on...how fast I recover. If I can keep refueling...keep recovering...I can keep going. Amazing what some water and calories can do on the fly

yep,i was thinking when out touring just stopping and brewing something up real quick might be a good idea...this particular ride theres a tree right at the halfway point and some rocks to sit on,makes a good stopping spot since its exactly at the end of the climbing too, just a quick rollout then hardly any pedaling till i hit the paved road again...

Harvesting the "Jam" dominant Hell Hound IX1

Harvesting the "Jam" dominant Hell Hound IX1

Day 70

^ She's getting pieced out...can't harvest her whole. Great plant expression...really enjoyed growing her

* Her space is being overgrown by a fresh stretching Hell Hound...so made the call to cut her down. She could have been cut 5 days ago....or 5 days from now...that looks to be about her window: 65-75 days. Good yield of great flowers...nothing to bitch about

Keeping my eyes peeled for another one of these...to dust up

This Day...like any day

This Day...like any day

Took a little sample branch off the Mox Mox IX1 mother that was pollinated 2nd (out of the MM)...day 65. She'll keep flushing a bit longer...not too far off though

^ Not bad...looks like a lot of DD in there. She's a nice enough plant..but I'm still waiting on a 2nd generation plant that blows me away (like their F1 mother did)...

but yup...this plant is solid enough..and I'm sure the vapor from her resin...will be up there on the shelf. Guess it could be a situation...where I'm seeing these frequently enough..that they don't move me to dancing a jig. A bunch of years ago...I'd have been falling over myself...to latch onto such expression...now days...it takes a bright shine...to make me notice

^ These things are insane though. Couple Hell Hound IX1 sisters (the before shown.."Pig" is on the left) a little different in flower age..blowing out big growth...stretching and spreading. All the project plants going into the flower studio...in the last couple/few weeks...had a lot of veg time...and were cut back so many many many times.

So that now...when they are being put to flower...they are supercharged bushes. Not so much the Mox Mox but the Hell Hounds are rocketing up and out. The vigor is something that must be kept in check...every single gardening session.

Santa Ana Winds

Santa Ana Winds

....more Devil winds>>>>>>>>>Hauling ass through the canyons..steady not warm. Totally unstable atmosphere. I'll be out navigating them here...soon enough..not so bad having them at the back...yet it can't always be that way..so I'll attempt to stay as aerodynamic as possible..and run smartly..going down into holes to stay out of the wind

^ drying Hell Hound IX1 "Jam" expression. This stuff grows on hollow stems..like stalks of bamboo.

* I've vaporized the early samples...and yup..as expected...damn good weed. Flavor is evolving as it cures..has that undertone of OG funk..some sweet fruitiness over the top. Potent stuff.

^ Early samples off a Mox Mox IX1 (not pollinated) on day 67. Foul DD aromas...sticky and all that. The plant is still flushing

* This morning I vaporized some of the early sample "2nd" Mox Mox IX1 (the 2nd MM pollinated..nuggets shown a post above)...and yeah...these things are coming out really flavorful and potent..pretty much grow alike..look alike..and probably safe to say...will all be very similar in the vape bowls

powerful weed

i was smoking some chemdog99 this morning...you must have done something similar as its chemDD x c99...at any rate, real nice stuff, from freebie seeds too...
nice sunny day here,a bit breezy as well,i just try to plan my rides so i head into the wind right away...or rather so i will have it to my back on the homestretch,of course that rarely ever works out the way i think it will...i imagine wind comes more into play for me than for you owing to the relative difference in velocity....although admittedly im not really all that fast...it took me all this time to finally get that i dont need to go fast, that the only thing that really matters for me is hours in the saddle...im going to get more out of a ride training wise by going at an "easy" pace...although what i think of as easy is gradually getting faster, more important is now when im climbing i feel more relaxed and not gasping for air...you know when you can feel the power flowing smoothly and everything is in synch...

This is really when herb aids my running..meaning: it's going to take at least 3 vapor bowls to motivate me out the door. I'm all dressed up and ready to go...but the wind is blowing hard enough to have the house shaking consistently. You can feel all the differences in atmospheric pressures...with each down canyon freight training blast

very typical winter time Santa Ana...skies are clear blue and the sun bright...but the wind is deafening. It's a bad time to be down in drainages...as this is when many an Oak tree has limbs blown out..or just falls victim and topples. After every wind event...there is carnage done to the trails.

one of those days...conditions for a fun run...not high on the dial. A day when the less motivated stay home. always be training: the key to progression

* sawed logs last 2 days...and after this event ends...I'm sure I'll have some new ones to saw this upcoming week. Been plenty productive...working with the winds. Able to keep the homestead warm and cozy....burning up petrified Oak limb wood...doesn't get much better than that..for creating long lasting BTU's

Fuck it...enough of being a pussy...I'm out the door

its the "suck" that makes those days worthwhile...on the bike theres this moment when you turn out of the wind and suddenly the world goes silent...a 25-30 mph wind is pretty noisy to ride in,but get it at your back and going at the same pace and its weirdly quiet...plus you can go really really fast....

Exactly what happened on my return trip. Had 30 mph wind at my back...on a rolling downhill...for about 3/4 of a mile. At this light weight..man I was getting a full on perfect push...so fun..wish I could run like that at all times

Ran for 1:58...cutting in and out of wind..felt real relaxed and laid down some good tracks. It's not bad at all if you can slip into the rhythm of the unstable conditions..and accept the deafness. There's actually peaceful places to be in there.

* Kind of had an enlightening moment on the importance (to form mechanics) of breathing from the lower abdomen at all times. It is all in the balance..and if you can stay in balance...there's a shit load of torque to effectively..be had. Breathing from the belly is calming...breathing any other way...is panic.

Core suspension all comes together...right down by the hips..I think about air ride. If I can master my breathing..I'll master everything else. It's really simple: breathing brings balance..balance becomes strength (recovery flexibility endurance speed torque)...or it has its opposite effects if it's not controlled..my form is failing..little bricks in the wall breaking down..little here little there..with every miscued breath

fuck...you can do all kinds of crazy shit out there. It's like one level takes you to the next....picture gets broader....having individual experience over listening to limitation filled static.
