It's all about spreading the knowledge. Everyone has something to learn, and if you apply yourself, you can learn something new everyday.

Hi,

I have been following your posts and just got into the waterfarm method of growing.. I bought an 8 bucket waterfarm kit with rez.I have been having trouble with 2 thing and was hoping maybe you could help.. First where do i find the valves that you use... ? Also I plan on using a slightly elevated table made out of cinder block or cinder caps with a 2 X 10" on top and a cinder block or two under the rez with said board on top.. That way if I want to empty the rez with speed I can sump pump it out and lower it beneath the table heighth so it would backflow out of the other buckets faster.... Do you have any thoughts on that? or does that sound right?

thanks

I get my valves at Better Grow Hydro. They sell in 1/4", 1/2" and 3/4". For the buckets, use the 1/2". It fits the grommet just like the other fittings.

My units happen to be sitting on wood shelving with bricks underneath. And I primarily did it for the exact same reason you plan to.

My next modification is going to be to add a set of valves and quick-disconnect so I can hook up a pump and suck the system dry instead of using gravity. It takes WAY too long to drain 30+ gallons thru a 1/2" tube! :yoinks:

Welcome to Hempy's From Clone To Growth Step-by-Step Pictorial

Each week I move 2 clones from the Humidome in the Nursery cabinet to the MegaGarden in the Growth cabinet. The following is a step-by-step pictorial of the process I use in my Garden.

For the following task I use these items:
~1.5l of Hydroton
1 1/2 gallon grow bag
1 5" square pot for MegaGarden

Step 1: Pick Your Clone

I usually wait for a few more roots to show, but I wanted to get this post done. As you can see, the roots are white and healthy.

Step 2: Grow Bag

I use and reuse 1/2 gallon grow bags in my MegaGarden pots. This makes removing the plant for transfer to flower as well as clean up much easier. I punch an extra set of holes (the middle pair) in the bag for better nute flow and root escape.

Step 3: Fold Grow Bag

Fold the top inch or so of the grow bag.

Step 4: Bag In My Pot

We are all used to seeing pot in a bag, but how about a bag in a pot! As you can see, the folded part of the bag brings it close to level with the sides of the pot so no light is blocked.

Step 5: Prefill Hydroton

Place 2-3 handfuls of Hydroton in the pot filling it about half-way. It should be low enough to allow the nutes to reach the rockwool cube during flood cycle.

Step 6: Clone Placement

Place the clone in the middle of the pot and backfill with Hydroton. Be sure to keep clone centered and vertical.

Step 7: Competed Clone

Here we have our potted Clone ready to go into the Growth cabinet. But wait, there's one more thing.

Step 8: Moisture Guard

When I first started up the Growth cabinet I was having a problem with the new plants drying out too much before they could get a good foothold and start to grow. I fixed the problem by covering the tops of the pots with a square of Mylar. I cut a hole in the center and a cut to the edge from the center hole.

Step 9: Place Guard

Carefully place the moisture guard around the plant like a collar. This can be removed once the Clone starts to thrive and throw new growth.

Step 10: Place Plant in MegaGarden

The plant is given a plant marker with the date it was placed in cabinet and then it's given a quick watering of plain water.

This task takes about 10 minutes to complete.

Nice system you have going here Hempy.

Thanks for posting the link to those spare buckets. I have been using empty 5 gal's for the same thing but they are too big and I'll be glad to use something smaller. I'm going to look into these valves too. I have plans for a waterfarm scrog and they would help a ton.

BTW - does that megagarden fit inside a C13?

I'm glad the links were of use. I spent a good day googling to find those. They were the only places I was sure it was the correct size bucket as well as being able to order online.

The C13 cabinet and MegaGarden were made for each other. It's a perfect fit with room to spare. If I only had room for a cab, I'd do my full cycle growing in that cab with a MegaGarden.

I've got the garden sitting on a small wooden platform because the MG was sitting on the vent holes in the back and side.

simply amazing hempy :yoinks: i'm speechless......:jawdrop:......

i guess i just wanted to emphasize this:

this is the first time here on IC i've seen someone else make these moisture guards out of mylar......i think they are quite clever.....you would be suprised at how much light they reflect upwards. You can custom-design them to fit just about any container or application. Another thing you can do is make mini-moisture guards and attach them to the thicker branches. This puts a mini-reflector effect on the primary colas and helps redirect light into the interiors of the floral clusters.

Hempy, do you prefer Hydroton to other media? Have you found anything better such as lava rocks or silica stones? I guess that's all for now....

kind regards,
your perpetual pal

I've only used Hydroton and aside from it being dirty and nasty fresh out of the bag I like it. It's fairly easy to clean up and extract from root balls.

Cheers!

They actually sell a product that is panda-poly pre-cut for round pots. They call 'em SunLeaves or other garbage like that. I mean, really, I can cut poly myself thank you very much!

I didn't have any poly handy, so I figured the Mylar would do.

Good thing ya don't have anything growing in there yet 00420 (I hope!), they'd COOK!

Cheers!

I started with a borrwed 400w and WaterFarm. Now I have my own setup with 2x600w and 20 WaterFarms!

Good to see your taking your time and getting everything right before starting. I kept having to tell my partners to slow down and be patient. Now they are SO happy I did everything right and insisted on no short-cuts.

Cheers!
