Started outside, way to cold and wet now, 6-12c been raining for a month,
mostly inside under a 1000w HPS till its done, a little bit of time outside for watering, or if the sun is shining, or not to bleak and pissing down raining lol

Temps inside range from, 10-16c and 65-72 % humidity, and 0-10c and 80 -95% lights off
its amazing anything is growing, got a few ace strains in there, some going good, some not so good

overdosed it a bit on PK

My Malawis were the only plants that did not shut down during the February freeze. The Kushes stunted and never recovered from the mid 30 degree nights and the daytime highs of around 55.

I did not expect this from such a tropical plant.

Claude, I didn't expect the Malawi to be cold-hardy either. I was pleased when Malawi survived several days as you described: freezing nights and 55 degree days. Oh, did I forget to mention snow?

Thankfully, Malawi is a trooper, like the rest of the Ace ladies in that first picture, and she came through the freeze with shining colors. Here she is two weeks later:

You're quite right Ted and Claude, Ace's Malawi is very hardy indeed. I had 3 Malawi and 3 GT clones in my greenhouse into January and February this year. My greenhouse consistently got down to 33-36F and and a few times down to 30. RH was 99% at night, but temps in the day rose to 70-80's, 13-20% RH during the day. The cold and drastic changes from night to day did not seem affect them at all. Here are a couple enjoying winter in a GH

Very solid genetics. It's no wonder Malawi is the backbone in so many crosses. I found out it contributes a lot more than just potency. Very hardy, I've not had any mold (I've grown about 13-15 Malawi total). Their early resin is disaster for bugs and something about her smells actually seems to deter some insects I think. I had white flies on my PCK in flower, but they didn't like Malawi or GT in flower, stayed away on the PCK side of the greenhouse. I would spot a bug or two stuck in some resin on buds, but I have never had an infestation with Malawi and GT, not to say it doesn't happen.
Enjoy your Malawi's, they're fairly easy and a lot of fun; one of my favorites to grow.
Peace, God bless

Thanks brother mriko

It's a pleasure to see you back at growing our beloved plant.
I really appreciate that you decided to grow some of our genetics after your hiatus and that you have had the chance to experience our Malawi in her full glory ;)

Your Malawi pheno is without any doubt a tamed New Killer pheno.
Glad you rate the quality of her flowers as 'gold' and that she produced some of the nicest and most resinous flowers you have grown.
Wish this positive experience encourages you to keep exploring our genetics when you have the chance.

Irie! :rasta:

Greetings and Love everyone!

Ace's Malawi was part of my latest session and although it ended up with a lower than expected production (I definitely need to work my sativa skills), the quality is on par with its reputation and this particular plant gifted me with some of the most beautiful buds I've ever seen. The resin gland just shone in a very particular way, like a zillion of tiny-tiny gemstones. Dried flowers glitter with a golden hue.
I let the flowers to mature well, with most of the resin cloudy to amber. Flavour is hearthy with a bit of lemon and resin. Energising and stimulating at low doses, a large spliff wacks you confusely (you also see things flickering here and there...), followed by a deep state of relaxation, mental and physical, that is absolutely blissfull, total cloud-9. Takes littlemore than a couple of tokes to feel your eyes and ear to warm up, can even give sweats if you wake and bake with this one. And that's just 2 weeks after harvest, so without any real curing so far.

Really excellent end product and quite easy for an African sativa, I haven't met any trouble (been using some Sa**ies tabs & bacto, the plant seems to have enjoyed it). From the first pistils to harvest day it took only 12 weeks and that is with mostly cloudy/amber resin trichomes, so 10,5-11 weeks could have been possible for a racier smoke I guess.

Greetings & Love everyone!

Damn, I think I'm starting to experience the first symptoms of "Malawi heavy distress syndrom", this anxiety one feels when realizing that the bottom of the pot is soon to be reached, noooooooooooooooo!
Good thing there's the auto, that will help to make the link with next indoor one

The end product is just so good, pure gold, one small cig is way enough to do the trick , thank you so much Ace team for making such gems easily accessible (a breeze to grow, really) to everyone!

Lovely smoke report Solar Logos :)

You described very well where does Malawi bring you after 2 tokes :D a place of no return!

How does your Malawi oil compared vs the best flowers you used to produce the oil ? I ask you, because although i'm far to be an expert on extractions and Malawi hash and oil can be super strong, my strongest experiences smoking our Malawi have been from perfectly grown and ripened Killer Malawi flowers.

Vape report

I filled some cartridges today from a clone of Malawi #1, the old malawi pheno. I let her go pretty long, so I get a very heavy body and head stone, very much zombie land but in a pretty nice way. Perfect for early evening, not too close to bedtime. One hit is really floaty and pleasant (it hits hard) and comes on quickly in a big wave and builds in your head and body. Two hits and you want to sit down, I actually got light headed. Three hits and your spaced out, staring blank with no thoughts in your mind, really zoned out mentally and physically. It's taken me 20 minutes to get this far, oh well, I was going to say something else but I can't remember what I was going to say next.

Hi Sk01,

Thanks for sharing your indoor outcome with our Malawi.
Really nice fatty towers she has produced :tiphat:

A pity that the overfeeding and ph unbalance did affect her development and health in late flowering. A decay of the health of the plant before reaching proper ripening peak can alter/degradate its terpenes. Killer Malawi terpenes are not very refined or pleasant unless you enjoy with the rudeness of some african sativas of this kind. Malawi fruity pheno is the one to look for if you are after more appealing terpenes within this line.

Hope she has produced a good amount of overpowering flowers! ;)

My girl at 10 weeks (now we are at 11th week, but this is the pic that I have here)

The smell is not really pleasant, I think I am not able to fully describe it. But let’s see if it improves cured :)

Thanks Claude
Glad to hear you love your Malawis and that you keep clones of the different females you grew. That's always a great sign.

Happy to hear they handled well the night freezings!

I love my Malawi's. I bought these Ace seeds 4 years ago and kept 3 different cuts.

Here's one I just cut at 14 weeks

Hi kickarse :)

Excellent yield and flower development despite the cold temps and overfeeding problems. Kindly, make sure to flush them properly in order to harvest a healthy harvest that does not store unnecessary nutrients that will make the smoke harsh.

That is a really good question Dubi. I asked myself that same question the first time I grew your Malawi, because they are oozing with resins.
To me, vaping gives me different high than smoking flower; it seems a lot of the character is missing. If I'm vaping Honduran for example, the taste and terpenes come through, it will have that energetic feeling to it and have some introspection, but not nearly as pronounced as it would be from smoking; it feels like a generic sativa high.
That is not the case with Malawi. Malawi and GT are the exceptions. The GT and Malawi vape high to me is consistent with smoking the flower with respect to effects, tastes and quality of the high. Two hits on the vape is two hits on a joint. I haven't paid attention to duration, but I imagine it would be the same.

Here is Malawi #1 coming up on it's 6 months of cure. Humidity in the jar is still 64%

I was out walking my dog downtown and dropped off a few GT cartridges to my friends working at the dispensary. They love your genetics and they all say it beats anything they have on the shelf, hands down. The owner is a friend of mine (and old enough to remember good sativa) and was telling me he got his permit for an outdoor grow and wanted to talk to me about picking some of your strains; I took him to your website, he was like a kid in a candy store.

In keeping wid Afreekan traditions I had fi roll a likkle cob. Found it hard to get da maize/corn on the cob up until just before mi harvest , so I took it as a sign fi twist one up. Also useful to note putting da cob leaves from the fresh maize/corn into a ziplock and freezing keeps them well. So if you are like mi now in a land where da crops not always about, give freezing dem cob leaves a go.
Had a sneaky taster this morning on my chalice and previous early smokes had mi wondering dat mi had harvested a bit early. Now today she start speak to mi like da Malawi mi know from my youth. He heh! Creeper to raspberry!!!! Whoa yeah! Rising nicely and telling mi fi nah plan fi do much inna this time n space as she creepers higher n higher. Yes, nice DEEP meditations!!! Not dat racy trippy like mi Empress Zamaldelica who mi soon will regrow a 3rd time from da first mother plant I grow at da start of da year. Yes Malawi is a rootsy one... Great wid morning coffee and some good Dub music playing. Blessed Love to each and all. This is an upful herb and a rootsman herb dat keep ya pon the levels. Firm meditation and good duration of effect. Smooth too, not one fi make you hack a lung up coughing wid. This one smooth even when young. Highly recommend trying a cob alongside ya regular drying and curing methods.
Thank You Again Ace Seeds you putting a big smile pon mi face and added another great strain to the list I recommend peeople go try growing demselves too. Wonderful herbs.
Happy growing!!
:yay::greenstars:

The Jamaican patios you write is the real deal, my brethren. I am taking lessons in sentence structure as I read your words about the fabled Malawi experience.

Thanks friend! That Malawi looks poisonous :D

Glad to hear that your friend, the owner of the dispensary, appreciate a lot the quality of your harvest and our genetics :comfort:

What a beast! :dance013:

The Malawi is still going strong, no problems with the cold humid weather
been heading for a while, the GT's and Zam planted with it were harvested long ago

I'm 8 weeks into flower with Ace Malawi and wondered how much longer I have to go?

The plants just started to throw brown pistels in the last week. I vegged 5 weeks, used lots of lst and ended up with a short bushy plant that looks a bit like an Acer. Lots of buds but not massive.

Greetings my friend.

Can you post some pics? We love pictures and Dubi or any of us that have grown it can give you some advise once we see the plant. What kind of effects are you looking for, ie. early or late chop?
She is a lot of fun to grow and you will learn much from growing Malawi. Thanks for posting. I see it's your 2nd post. Welcome to IC, all good people, and Ace forum, the place to be:biggrin:
